The victors of season one and the start of season two

Top Bounty Hunter: Season One

We’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in season one of bounty hunting.  We got to watch some great hunts and see players at their best.  Hats off to RearAdmiralZill, Lord Dick Tim, CarnageJPN, and Morbie for escaping the bounty hunters.

The top three bounty hunters were CarnageJPN with 90 points, Memory with 115, and Squash taking home the free item with 120.

Season two is starting on the 17th and a lot of players had some great input in what they’d like to see and we’ve taken that to heart.  Every day at midnight PST we’ll post the names of six or seven players on the bounty board.

Any player can take a screenshot of them defeating a bounty in a round, email it to Bounty@musegames.com,  and get 10 points.  Every player can claim each bounty once.  The person with the highest score can choose any non-holiday item in the store.

As for the bounties, the player who scores the most wins on their day of being a bounty becomes the “most dangerous bounty” for the season and also gets their choice of item.

The bounty board can be found here.

If you’d like to sign up to be a bounty head next season be sure to sign up here.

Balance Mode: How We (I) Respond

Those are the transparent textures I'm talking about. Read alllll the way below.

Hi, it’s Eric here.  Just writing this real quick so everyone knows how we (and by that I mean, yours truly) respond to balance complaints.  The most recent is this camping spot on  what we call the Giga Ship that’s found on Dunes and Scrap.

The bottom line is that I know what’s being said.  I don’t ignore what you say.  I hear it all (mostly) so be careful what you say.  You’re muttering something under your breath about the Field Gun while you’re sitting on the can?  I’m there listening.  Omnipresence.  And by that I mean, the internet.

The internet is watching you poop.

For the full explanation, hit the jump…

Bounty Hunting

Consider it a license to kill and get free stuff

We are implementing a new bounty hunting system.  Every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. (EST) in game we will post bounties for you to hunt down and earn points. There will also be scattered bounties randomly throughout the week.  At the end of the week the person with the highest score will get a free item.

Whoever has the most points by December 7th at 11:59pm (EST) will earn the gunner outfit “The Way.”

You can collect the bounties by taking a screenshot of you defeating an issued bounty and sending it to Bounty@musegames.com.  Everyone on your side will get credit for the hunt, but whoever sends the email in first will get 5 extra points.

If the bounty can go three games without losing he is considered to have escaped and will earn the points himself.

You can find a current bounty board along with full details here.
If you’re like to sign up to be hunted and have a chance at extra points sign up here.

Caster spotlight: QWERTY2JAM

Yet often interesting

We’d like to show off a caster who’s been with us since beta.  A very entertaining Australian who goes by qwerty2jam.  He first gained prominence in the Thunderdunes when he won 2nd place captaining his flagship Pyramidion the “QWERTY.”

Since then he’s casted with us Devs and with the guys from the Yogscast.  He often talks balance and the state of the game with other prominent players.  Go check him out!

Version 1.1 Available On Steam

We released a patch last night to fix a bunch of little things; just open Steam and the game will auto-update. Release notes!

Features
-New users now have one week to verify their email address. During that period, they can skip the screen prompting for verification code each time they log in.
-UI: more colors, highlighting yourself and blackening blocked players.
-UI: game list displays captain counts / slots
-“Death cam”: Camera orbits the site of last ship death while respawning
– Added display and filtering of server location to match list
– Added ability to select preferred location at match creation time
– Added pregame match chat
– Global lobby chat moved to Steam group chat

Balance
-Field Gun has a decreased turn speed, rate of fire, turn radius, as well as an increased reload time and slight drop. No changes to damage have been made.
-Rocket Launcher has an increased rate of fire.
-Squid has a major boost in top speed, from 37m/s to approximately 47m/s. This should bring back kiting back and make the Squid a viable support ship.
-Discrepancy between intended balance and database numbers found. Should mitigate carronade issues
–Squid should have had 850 armor instead of 700
–Flechette modifier against armor should be 0.2 instead of 0.4
–Small Carronade should have slightly slower rate of fire and slightly longer reload time

Bug Fixes
-Stats and achievements are no longer tracked in Sandbox.
-Achievements requiring you to do something to targets that are inside a cloud now can be progressed.
-Store purchase errors caused by Steam declining transactions are now displayed to users.
-UI: player information popup refreshes automatically on rank info update.
-UI: running matches now correctly display ship names / classes.
-AI: disconnected players will now be replaced by AI crew on ship death / respawn.
-Fire Extinguisher no longer rebuilds destroyed components.
-Fixed some performance problems (sudden framerate drops) with ship deaths
-Fixed an issue with Steam integration that could cause voice bugs and possibly crash very high-end machines.

Known Bugs
-Certain routers are known to corrupt the game’s traffic, in particular the Linksys WRT54G line. We are working on a more permanent fix, but bypassing your router should work around the problem.
