you have a heavy debate with yourself on whether or not you should incorporate spring green as one of your wedding colors because it's your clan color
-and then you clanmate passes you this link:

When you change your wedding theme to Steampunk just so you can invite your clan in costume. (Yes, this actually is happening)

When you spend days making a replica of your characters costume

When you have to repost the same costume because you are too damn proud of it for your own good

When you refer to your fiance as their character name instead of their real one by accident out of game (Sorry Alistair XD)

When your friends/clan use your character name because it sounds cooler then your real one.

Hmm, I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand, it would be rather nice to have a custom default ammo on the ship as to insure that it is brought. And it would make the gunner more important by having the ability to choose how to utilize the guns more.

But...with some ships it would make it impossible to utilize certain builds and make more work for a gunner. One of the builds my clan likes to use on galleon is double flak bot deck, merc top sniping side. The top deck engi takes charged for the merc, and the bot deck one takes lesmock to help with the flak arcs. So if the engi can no longer bring their own, what would the default choice be? If the choice was les, that would strip damage from the merc since it's rather easy to use without les, but if you choose charged that would make it harder for the engi on the bot deck, and wouldn't be able to fire the same range with the gunner. And the gunner can't reload for them due to size of the ship and reload times.

Or another build I see frequently enough is the meta pyra gat/mortar front, and flamethrower side. Alot of engi's like lesmock for the flame thrower, and engi on mortar debate between greased /burst/charge. (Oh gods, the debate on best ammo for that gun XD) So which ammo? Now the pilot is forced to choose a default ammo type that may not agree with both of the engineers play style. Should the gunner bring a different one for the mortar? After the first clip, you'd have to hope you killed it or have the gunner reload again.

Mind you, this is just off the top of my head but I'm sure there are other examples. So that means that which ever round the pilot chooses to be his default, he then would have to choose the guns that fit it best or force the gunner to run around more...and depending on the ship that's near impossible to expect...thus limiting your build options.

It's a fine idea...but I see a few difficulties that may arise. I'd love to see more ammo types to add to the gunner's versatility to be honest.

Perhaps they could even have different swords for different areas? Like an old school longsword for baronies or a katana for yeshan? It would be a cool way to show what faction your character was from/supports.

General Discussion / Re: Co-op is freaken amazing

I am very much on the edge of my seat for co-op. Lately Alistair has been getting burned out with only pvp over and over. That and it'll help with keeping players, which is something needed.

Will likely be glued to my computer once it hits. Well, more then I am now, anyway...

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: All maps for practice mode
« on: March 07, 2015, 11:35:42 pm »
A shame really, not having all of the maps available. I like to now and again take new members of my guild and train them in practice. Having access to all of the maps would make it a lot more interesting as far as training them goes, especially if they want to know the ins and outs of the maps as a pilot.

Then again, if I had to choose between waiting for new maps or co-op to be polished and ready, I think I'll wait on the maps XD

A lot of us have a phrase or saying that is native to our area, almost like dialect of sorts. Sometimes it can be narrowed down to even specific cities (Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, ect) Each have a turn of phrase or a way of saying something that marks them from that area. Over time, things change from trends and use (for example, the word 'bully' used to mean 'something great', but today refers to harassment. Quite a change).

As far as role-playing goes, there is a great opportunity as far as sayings for specific areas or roles.

For example:

As cold as a barony smile
or
Madder then a sandstorm hare

Or even specific words. Perhaps 'gilded' (a term usually in reference with gold decoration) would take on a different meaning with the Mercantile Guild. Like saying someone is gilded could mean something like 'rich though trading with the Mercantile Guild'.  Or even 'someone important through the Guild'.

I'd be curious to see other examples on how this could go.

I think one of the elite costumes have a sword...I think the elite female pilot? Don't quote me on that.

Personally, I really really want a sword! It fits the character so well to have one, or even a flintlock pistol of sorts would be lovely. Not sure how it could be implemented, other then new costumes overall that include them. I suppose Muse could put in a belt slot for more customization, but I would imagine that it would be hard to integrate that.

*sigh* It seems the exact same problem, only worded differently.

What is boils down to is that people don't want to wait until new players get good. So many threads and so many discussions are about the new players and what to do with them.

*Stands on Soapbox*

Guys, we were all the newbie at some point. We all didn't start the game knowing the best path for chem spray cycles were, or what ammo is the best for which gun with what build. Heck even now I argue with people about ammo types because some are honestly up to preference. And that's something you can't learn except through experience.

I agree the tutorials could use a bit of spit and polish. I agree fully that there is more information that can be used in them.

However...

I will state firmly that even if you had all the information, knew what did what, there are things you can not learn until you practice them. When I first started this game, I read forums. I went through threads, I watch pro play before I even played one game so I could get a leg up. And it was not enough for my first few games. Because even though I knew more then most my level, I needed to actually put the information I had to use to learn it right. I got good because I met players that were willing to teach me, and stayed because I made friends with them.

Gun arming times with different ammo, cool down rates with different tools with different parts, the turning and velocity for each ship....only by playing the game can you get the feel of it. No tutorial can give you all the information in one go and expect it to stick doing it once. You have to learn by doing and practicing it. And with the player pool as small as it is, it's something that people need to understand and work with.

If the new player truly wants to learn, and you as a veteran do not teach them, it is your failing, not theirs.

Hmm, an interesting idea. I do like the thought of having a more even match when that kind of thing shows up. Trouble is, it would mean that Muse would not only have to balance normal things, but also the nerfed ones to insure that it wasn't too too weak or too strong. And it would be nearly impossible to balance. And not everyone would want to.

Some of the time, my clan will take silly builds or bad ship choices to even it out a bit. So there is that option.

Hmm, this be a tricky topic.  I think most of you know my feelings on newer players (and for sake of the lobby, I wont say it all again and sing "why can't we be friends").

To be perfectly blunt, I don't think removing levels or any way to tell will help because those that value elitism will still use any way they can to show off.

You'd have to take away badges, take away unique costumes, remove the ability to even look at a profile to see anything. And even then, it wouldn't work. They'll say what levels and accomplishments they have and why you better listen anyway.

And, if you notice, people are finding other ways to show someone is good at something. Be it showing games played, the number of commendations, only your title...it's still showing a form of rank.

Anything at all will still put a value on being good at something, even if that something is being polite. And some people will use that as a reason to listen to them then someone else. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, its just that when it come right down to it,  you can't make rules and settings to stop judgement. People will find ways. I mean, I've seen people get judged simply on the way their voice sounds. Removing levels isn't going to fix against that kind of mentality.

And honestly, having levels gives people something to shoot for. People will grind "I need level x before bed!" And giving away gifts and costumes and decals for it keeps people playing.

What we can do is foster a positive community and reach out for those that need to learn. Play by example. Actually, seeing discussions like this are a good thing, being it shows that the community cares.

Oh yeah, is the entire reason I joined a clan in the first place. That and between other clans chatting and working things out, it can fill lobbies and have some really awesome games.
