Q&A / Re: Abbreviations
« on: May 25, 2015, 02:47:30 am »
Dakka- To wildly shoot as much as possible whist screaming at the top of your lungs. Commonly used as "Needs more Dakka, WAAAAAAGH!!!". Sometimes proceeded by a ram.

Friendly Fire/Skaven it/F*** it all- to launch mines indiscriminately, knowing well it might (more likely will) hit an ally.

.

Trihardamis- Junker with 3 rocket launchers on one side.

lol, havent heard that one.

I'm not sure where I heard it, heard Alistair use the term and we picked it up from there. Being its one of his main junker builds I can attest to how appropriate the name is XD

@Omniraptor

This is frighteningly accurate XD

There are quite a few, I'm afraid, and some seem to have slight variations according to who you talk to. I can name a few things off the top of my head that myself or clan use, but be assured there are more and I may be slightly off.

Metamydian- Pyra with a gat/mortar combo on front, usually with the mortar being next to balloon.

Trihardamis- Junker with 3 rocket launchers on one side.

Flakfish - goldfish with heavy flak

Minnow/minnowfish- either short for the gun itself, or for a goldfish that has it

Munker- Junker with mostly (usually all) mine launchers

Thats just a few off the top off my head, there are far more

When people ask for boarding:

Freaking yes!!!

Well, I've heard that early planes had a tube and funnel that led to the outside of the vessel. Apparently difficult to use under duress and/or if you were a lady. Some bomber planes would just use bottles or disposable boxes, then throw them overboard when done. Which gives a whole 'nother meaning to 'dropping a load' XD

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Why should the many punish the few?
« on: May 21, 2015, 06:48:45 am »
I agree that this whole not being punished for losing is, to be polite, bothersome.

When I was learning how to play chess, my grandfather did not let me win. Nor my father. I lost over and over again. I learned from my mistakes because there was a real reward in winning. And when I did win, I knew it wasn't because it was handed to me, it was because I earned it.

Now, on the other hand, had my father and grandfather yell at me to get better or mocked me for my mistakes, I would feel the game wasn't worth the stress and quit (as many do with many games, after all, is a fictional universe that is meant to be fun worth stress and rage? Why play a game if it's not fun?). But they were encouraging and took time help me learn. This gave much more satisfying games as a result. We still play chess, and in turn I taught my siblings.

But on the other other hand, that was because I wanted to learn and willing to take time to do so. Had I thrown a fit, they wouldn't help me learn because the situation wouldn't warrant the stress.

Trouble is there isn't a clear right-wrong-no-exceptions answer. While I have met some very polite and eager to learn players, there are of course those that are less so. Should those that are willing to learn be punished because others are obnoxious? Should members have to constantly deal with unskilled and unwilling to learn players for the sake of those that are not? Is it even worth it?

As was pointed out, a bigger player base would solve many of the issues, but only if players actually stick around. All of this is pretty accurate.

I've stressed it before, and stress it again. We need, not just want, but NEED Co-op. Pretty please with Loch on top.

The Docks / Re: Ya Like DAGZ? Fly with us then :) "STRAY DAGZ"

Hello, I've been looking to join another clan for awhile now. I haven't played a lot frequently, mostly due to the lack of people I know who play. I prefer gunner, though I'm a decent engie. Just don't ask me to pilot a junker, unless its a munker. Favorite guns are the Hades, Phobos, and Mercury.

We have a fairly stubborn number of people that plays frequently enough (I'm looking at you in particular, Rowho), and I definitely have the same idea about class (don't look at my levels, shhh). Look for a few of us online, we'd love to fly with you.

Bwhahaha  ;D

That was inspired by the common happenstance:

Me: "Oh gods, the pain! Where are our allies?!"
Captain: "I dunno, no one is talking..."

*slow death*

I actually really miss that with the UI, it was subtle enough to not be distracting but clear and easy to find.

I was in that game. Most of the replies to Sky Torpedo were "do want" and "oh god."

I don't think anyone was offended, myself included. I tend to rant on things so by all means take what I say with a light touch.  ;D

Although, I will point out there are lights in refinery on some of the pipes and things that look pretty electrical. Could be wrong but they look like it.

Well, I was more or less saying the Tesla Cannon for the luls. If used at all would be vastly overpowered and silly as hell. More of an ongoing meme then anything that should be used since it doesn't really go with the rest of the weaponry. But it gets one thinking, and that's good for brainstorming.

My main thought that goes against it is, this is steampunky. There is no room in the world of steam for electricity. And once you introduce electricity the entire world changes. Maybe I am just being a bit stubborn on the idea of changing the world of guns, but I do not see a need for tesla anything.

However, the use of electricity powered items predates airships beyond hot air balloons. The first arc light was made in the early 1800's, and was used for movie projectors up to WW2. The first steam propelled airship was 1852. Not to mention other picky inconsistencies without any electricity (in example, how to captains talk to each other without a radio?)

Truth be told, this game feels more diesel punk then steam punk, and has elements of both in it. It's kinda of its own thing. While it does have the steam punk aesthetic, I see the use of oil and engines rather then actual steam. And the guns range wildly between eras (the heavy flak looks like a ww1 artillery piece). Actual steam punk would have more flintlocks, gears, and well, steam. But we see oil, kerosene engines, ww1 inspired clothing (the Lost Soldier outfit in particular) and this, if we want to be picky, is leaning towards diesel punk. In which early forms of electricity would be very plausible.

There is a lot of inspiration that could be drawn from weaponry created in the world wars (and thus when electricity was very present), and later altered to fit the aesthetic better. After all, we use a fair bit of imagination for the setting as we know it.

I don't know myself, to be honest. Just something I overhear in chat or is mentioned off hand.
