Lovely guide Nano! I def like seeing things like this for the newer players, and a fresh look for the vets doesn't hurt either  :D

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Game mode level requirements?
« on: March 01, 2015, 07:51:41 pm »
Trouble is, there isn't a clean cut answer to this. What it boils down to is this: the player base isn't large enough. Because it's so small, it makes it so that if Muse does put a harder line down before there is enough people there, it's going to make it so it takes them even longer to get a game in. Do that, and the few newer players there will get discouraged and leave, thus making the problem worse.

I more then sympathize with those that have to deal with newer players that are also not keen on taking advice. I've lost more then a few games because of it. However, that's going to happen in any and every online team based game. You can growl and rage, but there is not one single multi-player game out there where an uncooperative player won't screw a game. Alas, it comes with the territory.

Best thing you can do is try and teach the new player, and if they don't want to listen, leave the lobby and find another game before it starts. It's not the best answer, but then, it's also wrong to punish players that do want to learn and are a little advanced for novice. I mean, more then once I've found a gem in the rough that was better then their level let on (and promptly asked them to join my guild). Something a lot of people tend to forget is that all of us were level one at some point. And if they are being rude and not listening, what makes you think they would at higher levels anyway? Some people are like that, and level doesn't save you from the trolls.

I def agree with Kamoba, BlackenedPies and Imagine on this one. We want to encourage, communicate and work with newer players. And some players you just can't work with, but that wont change anyway. Putting in something with a bunch of clauses will cause more issues then fix them. And I'd rather have Muse work on Adventure Mode then try to work in more rules and coding for a tiny community that can barely handle matchmaking.

Once the community grows it'll make things lot easier to find similar level games and open possibilities for player levels and requirements. For now though, we got to work with what we got.

Ok, I finished it. Is this something you were thinking?

Here's the 12 point gears in snowflake. I found out quickly that its rather hard to make gears and snowflakes not blend together to the point its hard to tell one from the other on a very small scale. Still, I might give that idea a go sometime, but here's something first.

I could give it a whirl (so to speak). I did this paw theme one:

some time ago, and thought about doing a series of trailing snowflakes awhile back. I'll see what I come up with if you'd like.

Gameplay / Re: New Spire!
« on: February 26, 2015, 04:55:24 pm »
I think the buff is a wonderful thing for the spire. I enjoy gunning on a Spire very much, and hopefully we'll be able to see more of them now.

Although even with the new gun, I don't think it needs a change in gun slots at all. Again, this goes back to a previous comment on another board that you have to choose between the damage and the support and work out a strategy from what your team has. I've seen moo gun spire work fantastic in some games, not so good in others. Alas, the temptation of this shiny new gun makes it so that you will see an entire team with it (and it doesn't turn out as well as one would hope).

I agree completely that if you think a ship is OP, you should fly on it. It's a great way to learn strength and weaknesses. Its balloon is an inviting target, and the various parts a placed far enough from each other that the engi's can be spread thin and unable to shoot. Ambush is still viable from above or below on it's rear arc, more so then most ships with its long bottom and huge balloon. (Mind you, all this can be applied to most ships, but it's what I've observed on the Spire especially).

Honestly, the spire really needed the buffs. It folded like a paper cup on a stick if anything even looked at it sideways. Now people will be trying out new builds and new things. I'm looking forward to seeing what come of it.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: AI nerf
« on: February 26, 2015, 04:15:10 pm »
I think there is a lot of back and forth going on about it, so let me clarify my complaint. It's not that the AI loads ammo. It's the fact that its a full clip already and doesn't need to be reloaded in the first place. So it doesn't matter what the AI loads into it, it's that if a player loads ammo they want to be ready when they shoot it, they shouldn't have to worry that the AI is going to run over there and reload an already full clip on them.

I mean, I obviously don't expect a human engi to have all the same ammo I do if there are multiple guns on the ship, so I don't mind if after all the shooting it's different ammo type. What annoys me is that there are no enemy, no shooting, and therefor no reason to change my preloaded ammo to begin with (I've thrown people overboard for touching my guns in such a terrible way). The difference is that usually after I tell a human engi 'hey, please don't change my ammo if it's full' they listen. I've tried with AI (and they are terrible at conversation. I end up talking to myself and get glanced at by the remaining crew. Thankfully they don't argue, being I'm the one at the gun).

I wouldn't know if its a bug or not (I have very little knowledge of coding, I'd have to ask Alistair since he used to do that for a living. It feels like a bug, but I wouldn't know), but honestly it doesn't matter. It's simply an annoying and sometimes hampering happenstance, especially if you are a gunner with a lot of different guns that require different ammo to be ready at a moments notice.

The Lounge / Re: The game you mostly play
« on: February 26, 2015, 03:56:08 pm »
Hmm, well, depends on how far back we go.

I used to play WoW quite alot. I was raid healer and Alistair was raid tank for our guild. Before Panda Expansion we quit though. Our guild was fantastic which was the reason we stuck around as long as we did, but the quality of game as well as the feeling of paying for a second job kinda killed it for us. We tried other MMOs but never really found one that worked. I play an awful amount of Skyrim (over 600 hours, shhh...) and games like Borderlands+, Dishonored and until recently due to the balls up on Ubisoft, Assassins Creed.

Now outside of video games I usually run a table top rp. I have a Dark Heresy 2ed going on as well as a 7th Sea game once a week or so. I've played a ton mainstream and some indy RP games (from old and new World of Darkness and expansions, AD&D and up, Pathfinder, 7th Sea, Five Rings, ect) I also play table top miniature games such as Warhammer 40k (have a chaos and tyranid army, so the underdogs as it were) and once in a while Malifaux (think grim magic alt history steampunk western and that's something close to what Malifaux is.)

When I'm not playing games I write terrible fan-fic of games I love...so still something to do with games. Or paint mini's for games, or write settings for other games....hmm...I might have a problem...naaaahhh

Something I'd like is that if there is a full clip of special ammo for the AI not to automatically reload it. Often if I'm on, say, a galleon I like to load the guns to be ready the second I need them. Then someone drops, the AI spawn in, reload any gun they get to and walk off, knowing smugly they have miffed me (especially with the hwatcha, I swear to ancestors the AI zero in on them). While I like the idea they reload in the first place, if it already has a full clip then it's just annoying. At least at a person I can threaten to throw them overboard for switching my ammo.

I'd love colored flares! Not just because of the 'oooh, pretty' factor, mind you. I've heard that some types of military uses different colored smoke grenades to mark locations (dunno if that's true, don't quote me on that) so the thought of doing something like that sounds awesome.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: About the Minotaur
« on: February 25, 2015, 02:35:12 am »
From what I have seen, it would not make any sense for it to be a small gun. The concept in itself makes it so to have that much force it would have to be a very large piece of artillery to begin with. Beyond that, it makes anyone flying a long ship cry. I spent several games giggling as I made mobbys and junkers spin like tops. I think while it may be a niche gun, paired correctly it can make a very helpful and scary ship. So far I've seen the best use with it is on a galleon. While it's a pain when paired with a flak if whomever shooting doesn't wait for the flak first, it did rather well being we pushed the other ships about so much we could dominate the sky. I'd say the best pairing I tried so far was with the hwatcha. Between disable, push and heavy clip range it worked wonderfully as a disable side on the ship.  Seen both good and bad examples on Spires, and to be honest it's rubbish on a goldfish from what I've seen so far.

One of its few weaknesses is that it has a decent reload time. If it were a smaller gun, people would put 3 on the side of a junker and chain spin, which would be insanely hard to counter at all. Pretty much a grief engine. Where as having it be a large gun makes people have to decide and choose if they want damage or not.  While it can pick parts...there are other guns that do too and in my opinion, do it better. And too many Minotaurs means far far less damage to dish out on the ships that can have it.

I would say the arcs and range are rather silly. Its very smooth and very easy to learn compared to some of the other heavy guns. I agree it might do with some nerfing, perhaps on the range or arcs itself. For something that massive it should feel more like its that massive. Right now I feel it handles far too smoothly.

So far though, I find it an interesting and fun addition. I am curious to see what will become of it.

ohhhhh myyyyy goooooood that's amazing <3

Why thank you so much! I'm really hoping to take it to conventions (in character of course) and convince people to get playing this game. I really want to make a scale replica of one of the smaller guns so I can wave it about at people (thinking either gat or banshee depending on what materials I have). Mind you I'm also making a costume for Alistair so we may go as a pair. But thanks again :D

Thanks very much for the link Kamoba! It'll really help with current and future costumes (many, many costumes....)

Don't forget to weather the costume! You look far too clean.
As for the suggested poses, you must ensure to mount the gun properly! (Oh My!)
I mean look...
You're on the wrong side of the gun! You point the barrel at the enemy! No wonder you had suggestions to change pose...  8) :P

Great costume, beautiful lady, thanks for sharing with the community!

Oooh, I'm so scared to weather a costume, being its so delicate. I do plan on dulling the shining bits, giving it a bit of scuff. Might have to splatter some oil on my face (place innuendo here)

I wanted to take the gun with me, but alas, all my flirting amounted to only wishful thinking. Once I get a camera with a zoom function I'll be on the right side of the gun ;)

Thank you much for the comment!
