Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Hwatcha Nerf
« on: February 14, 2016, 02:07:00 pm »
This is a very interesting idea.  I do feel that the hwacha is slightly overpowered (it's still counterable, but honestly I think the ammo reload mechanic no longer requiring you to stay on the gun added a LOT to its OP-ness).  This would definitely make you really think about where you're dumping it.  However, this would kind of cause issues withthe possibility of long-range hwacha, as it can be helpful to fire a single shot to sort of make sure you're shooting in the right place, especially since the heavy clip nerf.  Forcing you to dump the whole clip would make it a lot harder, when long-range hwacha was already nerfed with the heavy clip nerf, even with the reduced recoil.  Long range hwacha does not need to be nerfed further.  The issue is close range.

Another idea I had for a hwacha nerf is to simply reduce the AoE a little bit, requiring slightly more skill and precision to disable a whole ship.  If you do just fire single hwacha rockets and watch the ensuing hit markers you can see just how insane the AoE is and how far the damage spreads from just one rocket.  It means you barely have to be accurate at all — as long as you hit somewhere on the ship, you are likely to disable a bunch of stuff even if you didn't directly hit any of that stuff.

Community Events / Re: SCS Timer
« on: February 14, 2016, 01:53:52 pm »
I understand the need for a timer to keep the SCS from lasting all day, but I HATE that "running the timer" has become a strategy.  It's not just boring for the viewers, it's boring for the participants.  Flying around the map looking for the other team is so mindless and stupid.  It feels like a waste of my time.  I sign up because I want to play Guns of Icarus and I want to shoot airships, not play a game of hide-and-seek.  It actually makes the matches take LONGER because teams WANT it to go to the end of the time rather than actually fighting and letting someone take a kill.

I've also been in plenty of matches that were clearly about to end during an engagement but the timer ran out before it could come to its natural end, which felt sort of antithetical to the point of having the timer.  I definitely like the idea of treating it the way pauses are — not ending when you are in the middle of an engagement.

As for things being "subjective" — is that not WHY we have a referee?  If things were completely cut and dry all the time and exactly obvious we could just govern ourselves in matches.  We have referees to make those calls because they are theoretically objective and impartial and able to make decisions for us.  "People might get mad at refs" is a terrible reason to not implement a rule.  People get mad at refs in sports all the time.  Sometimes a call is in your favor, sometimes it is not, and people are always going to get mad if it's not in their favor.  That doesn't mean that the rule is bad or the ref is wrong.

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing how overtime will work in future SCSs and I'm glad people are willing to give it a shot!

Stop using "autism" and "retarded" as insults.  Jesus.  English is a wonderfully diverse and varied language.  You can find a word that isn't insulting to people with disabilities.

Oh yeah, lobby hangman.  If anyone's been stuck in a long lobby with me, you'll know this is one of my favorites.  One person picks a word and you play with underscores in chat.  I usually put the letters that have already been guessed in brackets after.  Haven't figured out a good way to make the actual man to be hanged, but it usually gets guessed or the match starts by that point anyhow.

Who wants to guess a letter? :D

Wow, an award for cheesing flayed hills.  No thanks.

I have about a million and a half (literally, not hyperbole) spare XP as a level 45 gunner, and still wouldn't have been level 15 in the old system because of achievements that are impossible to get through normal gameplay.  I don't see a reason to reward that kind of behavior AFTER that system was already REMOVED because it was BAD.

This game doesn't really need more vet vs casual circlejerking

Also, THIS.

To go back to the original topic, yes, I think the player count should be slightly more hidden.  This is something that turns off new players before they even play a match.  All this talk about how to make the game appealing is irrelevant if someone logs on, sees the game is "dead", and never even gives it a chance.

is it flakfish story time?  Once I took over a novice flakfish that the captain had abandoned, with Bberry as my co-pilot flying an all-flare junker.  We won.

Can we make the "and" all uppercase and move it to be vertically centered between the lines above and below it, though?  It's killing my typography OCD.

« on: November 15, 2015, 03:25:09 pm »
This is still my favorite game.  It's not a huge game, but 200 is a pretty standard amount for a non-sale time.  When it's on sale, sometimes there will be upwards of 1000 people on, but most of them don't stick around.  But the low population means a small, close-knit community amongst those of us who play regularly.  If you can find cool people to play with, you'll have a great time.

I'm pretty happy with the new birthday hat being a sparkler hat.

Oh yeah also the rest of the stuff.  Good patch.
