Most teams use VOIP's like mumble or teamspeak though ):

Anyone who thinks picking counters is a problem in GOIO competitive doesn't really understand competitive GOIO. Good teams have their set ships and load outs that they endeavor to master over a week or over months. Teams that stick with their tried and practiced builds have a track-history of doing better than teams who hard counter. If any hard countering is going on in competitive GOIO, it's hard countering that has been practiced days to weeks before the game, not during the few minutes before the game when picking ships and loadouts. Just look back at matches and you can see how it is often more succesful to work past counters and fly differently than simply reverse hard counter with a build or ship that you and your crew may not have practiced.

A lot of people made videos including urz. In the most recent dev chat I'm pretty sure they acknowledged it as a bug.

Q&A / Re: Evasion and Approach on a Pyramidion
« on: May 30, 2014, 08:48:47 pm »
The thing thats great about moonshine is that not only is it really great for rams, it's also REALLY great for stopping your forwards momentum very quickly. This way you can easily charge in, but if you feel you will miss your ram you can easily moonshine backwards and avoid a sticky situation.

The most important thing for me about a pyra, is using height advantage. This is the main deciding factor in pyra vs all other ships. You want that gat/mortar to have its good downwards arc, you want your hades artemis to have that downward arc, you can kind of get away without it with hades flak, but its still good tactically to have good downwards arc. This doesn't necessarily mean to use hydro ALL the time, although some good pyra pilots do that (Fiasco total). Personally, I'd rather just rely on a balloon buff to keep me above my enemies. I constrict hydro to escaping, or if I'm trying to get a quick kill on a weak ship and I'm fairly far below them. I just don't like it because it takes my flak/art/mortar engi off his gun and forces him to repair the balloon (and the explosive damage that engi deals most often decides the engagement).

When it comes to hwacha, it's all about the height advantage. It's pretty easy to just stay above a galleon's broadside. Against a spire I'd say aim you're pointy bit at the very top of his balloon and just rush, the hwacha will most definitely hit your underside where there are no components. Hwacha fish is a bit tricky, what you really want to do is catch him off guard and ram his hwacha out of arc (pretty easy against goldfish).

I think the most fun part of flying a pyra is definitely evading. You see another pyra right behind you? Use my patented MysteriousEvade™ maneuver. Hydro up, sparingly, and moonshine full speed backwards. Keep going backwards until you're above and behind them, and then you quickly have the advantage. You'd expect this to only work against pilots who are unexperienced, but I think the sheer novelty of it will surprise even experienced pilots- I've done it multiple times in competitive and it always worked out. First time can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-vvPctKeWI#t=3m32s. However, don't do anything else seen there like... say... don't put on phoenix claw while you're being rammed like I did, and don't not shoot at someone when they're right in front of you.... The only reason I had to use that maneuver was because I messed up in the first place.

I'm really hyped for this even though I won't be participating

Hammer:
MH vs Muse 5-0
Ryders vs DPA 5-1
Clmr vs GwTh 1-5

-The hatters have been constantly practicing their builds and tactics. This should be a white-wash especially if muse use a merc flak spire.

-Hiller and Lue work amazingly together, but I'll give DPA one since Lue is "right off the bench" so to say.

-The ducks drill all their teams mercilessly, but I feel their experience just won't be enough to deal with thralls surprise ambushes. (Especially with Thralls' new use of the blenderfish.)

Anvil:
Cake vs TAW 5-4
MM vs HRA 4-5
SIR vs SAC 5-3

-Cake have pulled out some experienced pilots this time, but I do believe TAW will give them a run for their money

-This one's hard, I've seen both teams practicing, and zill is back in charge, but I just think holy and spqr have had a bit more experience with more recent events while mm is still kinda old school.

-SIR have played against Sac and won mostly. However I do know SAC have been practicing a lot, so I wouldn't discredit them completely yet.

Edit: Nearly forgot about the cross

OVW vs BFS 3-5

-Gilder and Brick have a lot of experience together, where as the new OVW team has not nearly as much. As long as BFS don't try to go super long range mercs and trip art (Hopefully they've learned their lesson), I think BFS will pull out a win.

Gameplay / Re: Double Flack on Pyramidion

I was piloting that all flak pyra and I got 5 kills damnit. Really though, without support a double flak pyra is useless.
