General Discussion / Re: Clan burial grounds

Certainly has been a drop in the number of experienced players on at the times I play. Now it makes sense, their groups folded and they quit. Others I know are on teams that play at different times now and don't come on at their old times anymore. Kinda miss some of them. Ahh well, such is guild/clan life.

Was refreshing to have some matches with the Gents yesterday. Flying against people that think before they act is a sweet thing. Now I just wish I could get all my crew on at the same time to do more of that!

I feel for you guys doing Labyrinth, I'd trade you ours if I could :). Its a pretty map and neat from time to time but a DM variant would be more interesting IMO. Not that I hate CP, its just that a lot of that map goes to waste with just the center point for CP.

Ahh change to ours. Andros for Haggis. Sorry, copied and pasted and missed it.

You can usually reach everyone aboard the ship by sending them a private message in the chat, even if they don't speak English they'll understand something is wrong once they see a dozen of lines suddenly popping up there.

This is a great idea but it doesn't really happen in reality. I've reported a bunch of kids for their behavior who in turn reported me back. Muse sent me a warning. I sent them a screenshot proving the kids were lying through their teeth. In the end, nothing was really done. They don't have time to investigate nor play judge and jury over everything.

Just had one today. Came on, we were in trouble. Told him over and over to repair the engines to help our engineer who was focusing on hull and balloon. He turns around in plain English, American, and tells me to shut up and not tell him what to do. Then continues to be a jerk. Finally got off after I threatened to report him but the fact is...yeah I can see abuse from a kick system but I'm at the point now where enough is enough. Muse isn't going to do it so it should be in our hands.

If a kick system is implemented with a class fix system for ships then it won't get abused as much as it would without one.

Could barely even tell where I was at times it was just jerking all over. Meat grind was not intentional.

Trouble was, I checked it a little in a 3v3 before we started to see how bad it was. Must have been different region cause it seemed playable. I had the option of taking Pyra and took the chance with Squid simply cause I've taken both of the other ships down before outside of the match using it. First kill went as I predicted it would, then it just went to hell with rubberbanding every few secs. Had no way to support Brick no matter how much I tried. Barely able to get the ship around to where I needed it to be and by that time, dead. Brick having issues. All they really had to do was keep focusing him down cause there was no way in heck I could assist with it jerking all over as much as it was.

Oh well, we just get to fly more. No biggie. Hopefully Muse does something with the servers.

I vote Muse fix the servers before anymore Cogs take place. The lag is too heavy.

Gameplay / Re: SHIPS Balance Questions and Concerns v1.2
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:12:00 am »
Here is something for you all to chew on. First I thought it was just hydro doing too much dmg that was the problem. Then I tested it right now. Hydro does 75dps to the balloons.

Now, before patch balloons had 1200 hp. I took a screenshot and looked it up to confirm.

So I tested it twice with my squid. Hitting hydro will kill a balloon in 10 seconds. 10 x 75 = 750.

Hmmm...that sure wasn't in the patch notes. A massive nerf to balloon hp and we would have never have known with the new ship loadout screens lacking any numbers. So now it makes sense why carronades were so OP at one time during the tester. With our balloons nerfed they could easily be. Now, what else was changed without being noted?

The answer to 5 hour battles...every 30 mins run a Pyralition Derby event channel. Well, once the update hits and make ramming godlike.

Actually wanted to test this but never had a chance. Load up 3 on 3 DM...all Pyras and probably a map with a large circle open area like Dunes. Pilot loadouts would be moonshine with 2 other optionals. No impact bumpers (unless everyone goes it), tar permitted for realism sake. Crews set to repair so no guns. Then everyone position in a circle facing each other...after countdown all hit the shine and collide at once. Pyras which try to run away from the circle area are disqualified. It is then a race to repair and rebuild and recharge in before enemies do the same. Pyras which get blown up can rejoin the brawl. Teams smash it out until one side wins.

If your going to be adding on time to the event then keep it between 2-3hrs or less. Stick in at least 1-2 intermission periods as well. Basically how I've done it with raiding and Ops running for years. Gets the maximum amount of time in and protects against burn out. Any longer and your deathmarching it. Course thats an MMO and this is aircombat. But either way the biggest hurdle is that time frame because this community is so spread out among the time zones. No matter what time you pick, it won't make everyone happy. So it then comes down to just minimizing that impact as much as possible. Some crews will get hit harder than others, that is just how it goes. If some have to rotate people then they'll have to do that. I actually wouldn't mind having that option cause we got folks who can't make the current time but could if it was an hour later.

Yeah I caught that how Muse got to stay in cause Corvus left. But I still had folks later talking out and gloating over Muse. Treating them like trash. None of present company that I know of, mind you. But I think the circumstances of the match made it stand out more to me. I don't want Muse to end up being trashed by the community to the point they never play and just alienate themselves from us.

Where the advantage to us came in is we not only had hundreds of hours in game play time perfecting our styles but also time practicing on dev while Muse was working. Brick adapted better than I did. Think cause his style wasn't as affected. But still we had to nerf our capabilities and plan a lot more to compensate for the beta issues. I didn't see Muse as having that luxury. Sure they make the game but making and experiencing it can often be two different things. Something they might have been able to do better had they played on the normal server.

Overall yeah the patch is good. I'd give it a 60% positive, 70%+ when factoring in the new map. Could be 80%+ if that map was 2v2 DM but we'll see. Most of my complaints revolve around the changes which will hopefully be fixed as well as some minor tidbits.

Wish I could say I was happy about our entry match into the Cogs on Saturday. Getting on the test server should make one happy as it is getting to see content as it is coming out and help tune it.

But, in the end I just don't feel right about it....

I don't like when people have messaged me later with props about my squid flying because that was the most uncomfortable flying I've ever done on it. I absolutely hated every moment of it. I felt like a bird with clipped wings thanks to the changes that hadn't been corrected yet. Like flying a brick vs flying a quick agile vessel. I got on later that night in the main game and took my original squid out and just felt beyond free. Gotta love what you fly and I do love it. Never been so happy to fly that ship.

I don't like the pats on the back for beating Muse or kicking them out. As far as I'm concerned that match was not on equal ground because of it being on the test server. Yeah their loadouts were not optimal but I think they could have played much better had they not been on the tester. Both of us could and I personally will not be happy till I've faced them on equal footing in a non broken match. There was no glory in that victory. I'd welcome the opportunity to face them again.

I also don't like the constant tear down of their team. Yeah they don't practice or play the game as heavily as we do but Brick and I discussed this before going into that game. We'd respect them by playing them like they were an advanced team. There would be no going easy, we would view them as a legitimate threat. We'd face them with the mindset that they could potentially turn the match around on us if we underestimated them. The changes did impact the ability to do this.

Drama as a whole seems to be pretty high. I won't comment on things which I am not involved in or apart of but that was a overly tense day. I could clearly tell from the commentary on the matches that things were rough. Talking with others from other teams later just expanded that more. I don't know who's doing what or who isn't doing what. I run a rather successful guild in SWTOR since launch so I understand well when tensions happen and people clash. From that I recognize the amount of work that has been put in and I thank the Cogs founders for doing it.

Perhaps the tensions are being raised because things are going unsaid, unaddressed. Or its just plain disagreements. I'm sure there are things we can all do to alleviate the tension and I do encourage it rather than letting things fester and get worse. It does not reflect well for introducing others to the game, specially introducing new content. I don't plan to post the last Cogs vids elsewhere for others to see because I don't want them to have to see that. Maybe it was qwerty's edge of his seat style which helped break up this in past weeks so I didn't notice it then. I don't know.

Guess I'm just posting this because I feel some of it needs to be said.  Talking with others about it last night and then today it just bugged me more. Maybe others are too. I dunno. Just putting this out there with respect to all the players and hosts.

If we go by sports then yeah go with a standard season and then have playoffs where you could utilize a best of setup. Say 3-5 or whatever. Could have some heated battles in a best of playoffs with teams coming down to huge tie breaker fights. That would be fun to watch and great entertainment.
