So then if teams do attempt it...find ways to stop it! It doesn't take long to close range nor to get some long range shots off at someone doing it. Specially if they are in the open.  The other ship will also be vunerable during the time their ally is attempting it. Come on you guys are some of the best at this game, use your heads!!

Now if this was 3v3...might be more issues with it. It would be harder to counter since there would still be 2 ships alive and able to dish out dps. Its not the best of situations but it can be defended against depending on the ships.

Well I was originally asked to join the Gents awhile back...then Kings Gambit before that. Actually had logged into the King's public chat one day with the intention of joining. They were either afk or not responding so I left. Met Brick and formed up TBB and BFS with him.

Not if they close range and attack. If one ship is focused and hurt then during the time that it is attempting it, the remainder ship will be alone and exposed to a 2 on 1. There is no guarantee it'll have a close respawn so give or take that is 10-30+ seconds where that ship will not have ally support.

Only real crazies would attempt it in CQC. There is too great of risk of getting shot within the tar by enemy fire. The dmg tar causes is a small amount in comparison to flak shells/etc. True it ticks fast, but under attack in close range would be stupid to use it. It takes timing to pull it off and a knowledge of how low the hull is.

Think your blowing things up far beyond what they actually are Smollett.

News flash squid can easly get away from all other ships. It has speed of 46m/s next fastest shis is goldfish with 32m/s. any half decent squid captain should have no problem running far enoug away from the enemy to be able to suicide safely.

Do you even fly a squid often enough? Muse screwed with it enough where it literally isn't the fastest anymore no matter what Muse spews out. I've been testing it and Goldfish or even Pyras using kerosene can keep pace with a squid using kerosene. Its insane. The squid should outrun anything easily. It should take kerosene to catch it but right now it is not. Match the other night against a goldfish using it and I literally could not outrun it even with my ship using kerosene. Heck the fish pulled away enough where it was able to get it's hwacha a firing angle on me. What the heck?!

Everyone in that match was the victim. I've already said that multiple times. I just wasn't going to put up with it so I resorted to using something I didn't plan to use until a much more dire situation.

Long range battles don't require a squid to run away from. Specially ones in the canyon, fjords, or dunes. Just pull back and do it, pending you have engines functioning to do it. As long as the camper team doesn't move to press an attack, there is more than enough time to pull it off. It would be much harder to pull off with a bigger ship. Specially galleon due to the speed of it and size.

Dying from impact should still count as a kill for the opposing team since they were the last one that damaged you. The game does not really tell the difference between a crash based on enemy fire or one based on friendly fire.

More ways to disable? No theres less. The way the old fire worked forced pilots to avoid flames or be unable to attack till engineers got off their butts and put them out. That along with hwachas and carronade gave crews more ways to disable. Now you can burn a ship forever and be killed by it as long as their engineers are godlike with the chemspray.

More pilot tools? Not really. Claw is useless with Kerosene atm pwning it...Moonshine burns up engines too fast. Drogue Chute pointless atm since Carronades have been screwed up. Nah, its still down to chute vent and hydro at the top with tar or kerosene following. Even with Hydro in it's crappy form atm, its still more useful than a buff engineer screwing up your controls by buffing the balloon.

Yeah custom server rules would work for me as long as they accomplish the same goal. The community is already split atm with the lowbie match list. Be more important to do things to retain the community you have.

This reminds me of all the whiners in bf3/etc who get classes nerfed because they don't like some advantage they have which seems underhanded to them. News flash...life isn't fair, real combat isn't fair. I've sunk over 400hrs in this game. I watch, I learn, and I keep doing it. I constantly keep looking for tricks and tactics that can take down harder opponents. Part on the reason I love the squid. It puts the most pressure on the pilot and crew. If you don't outwit or think, you're dead. You can't be lazy with it.

This isn't a hard trick to counter. Just get off your butts and fight cqc. Or stay butt hurt and cry to muse to get tar changed. Doesn't matter to me if it does eventually. I've made my statement, said my piece. Shown that I will use any tactic to take down my opponent. Which is what other teams should be considering every week. Paddling can be beaten if the rest of you are willing to think outside the box. No one is invincible.

Squid would have the cabins in the pontoons...lol

Actually there is space under the rear deck and port holes. But the room to use it would be very restrictive so doing something like this would have to be in the pontoons on the sides.

Well it wouldn't unbalance it if there was a chance the flames would blow back and damage the one using tar. There are far too many players just flying around with tar left on. A massive flame explosion which would dmg their ship instantly would prevent this.

The biggest issue would be slow down of the game and fps issues. Massive amounts of tar igniting can't be good for the fps or servers.

Probably never going to make the vets happy with the balancing issues so heres my proposal. Introduce normal and hardcore modes. Hardcore taking the game back to pre 1.2. Working hydro, flames that instant disable guns, non nerfed artemis and carronade, etc. Can keep the weight changes and such the same but just the core mechanics we miss the most seeing a comeback.

Will also serve as a way to combat against new players feeling beat down on. Make hardcore mode only able to be reached via match list so no quick joiners. Then you can do whatever you want with normal mode and save hardcore mode for tuning after the community has provided input.

QQ all you want but if you go about banning that then how about banning sniper matches entirely? You seem to like aggressive teams but continue to let camper teams rule the matches. Hows that right? Whats more exciting, an engineer battle with sniper teams or a pilot and crew battle with aggressive teams? Battles with actual tactics and ambushing or sitting in one spot pew pewing?

I've known about the trick for a few weeks and have tested it mostly in practice. I've kept the trick as a reserve trump card not planning to use it until facing range battles. But I haven't kept it secret. I've mentioned to many of you the possibility of using it. Now suddenly angry when I do?

So by your standards I should have offered up my slowmo crippled ship to Destructoid as a free kill? Gimmie a break. I'm not giving enemies free kills just because Muse can't patch or fix the game properly. Or just because of your concept of chivalry maybe? For one it did put us at a disadvantage. Specially cause I had no idea if the other team was rushing into the canyon after us. If you notice in the match, they do come in by the time I respawn. Had they rushed in sooner they would have gotten Brick alone or even me in the process of taring myself.

Had there been no slowmo I wouldn't have used it. That is a fact. I told Brick at the time to retreat and that I would use it because it was too much of a liability with 10% hp under those conditions. If you notice I got down that low again thx to slowmo but I didn't pull back and try it once more. Frankly I didn't think it would work a 2nd time if the enemy was wise to it.

You don't like it, fine...thats your problem. I don't regret using it. Any ship in the Cogs running tar can do it. At the very least I hope this raises awareness to it. Change the flow of some of those long drawn out battles. I've never professed to be a chivalrous pilot. I use a lot of tricks, I fight dirty whenever I can, and I'm known to cause teams to rage mid match or desert the lobby after. Don't like that, fine, stick to your stand up fighting...but I'm not. You better have good spotters...thats all I'm gonna say.

I love that BFS runs a Squid, but it's only really worked against Muse so far. 5-3 against DToid? Not so good :/

Muse it had good firing angle but it was a mess due to the patch, you didn't see it's full potential. Polaris it was plagued by lag so bad it could hardly move or react. This week it wasn't lag so much as it was slo-mo mode. Destructoid commented on the problem too and after the match it had clearly been a deciding factor in the outcome of the match for both sides. We were both afflicted with it. If you watch the match you can see the Squid is moving at like a quarter or a half it's speed. That forced us to fight defensively when we would normally dominate on Canyon. I didn't take Squid out because I expected an easy win, or that I underestimated their threat. I took Squid out because it was Canyon Ambush and I intended to show no quarter. They'd be coming at us all out, so I wouldn't gimp myself by going a slower ship just because they were the new team.

I gotta give props to Destructoid for holding in there so well because with that much slowdown that we were all getting I can imagine how painful it was to turn that Pyra. I've been there and seen it on 4v4, it is not pretty. Heck if I didn't know better I'd have sworn we were in a 4v4 Canyon or something with a couple Galleons.

The Squid will be back...the problems with it have all been on Muse's end. Fly with me when its not a mess like this and you'll swear its a totally different ship. I have been able to get around the hell Muse did to Hydro but its still about 90% as effective as it used to be. Heck I've had Pyras with kerosene keeping pace with me with kerosene...going backwards...that is how bad Muse screwed things up! Fastest ship my butt! Before it took them kerosene just to catch me at normal speed in a similar engagement. I know cause I used to duel Pyras often. 1.2 is probably the worst patch I've seen since I got the game. I'm still pissed about Hydro and I still want a proper explanation for the balloon hp nerf. Muse says it isn't but the numbers don't add up. Eventually it will sort out and Muse will realize the massive error of their ways...till then...sigh.

I decided against it for Duel this time because it was the first match and I was not confident Muse had fixed all the issues. Specially not with such a heavy crowd. We ran some practice together before whereas last time we hadn't. The server situation was a deciding factor and it sucks that we're at the mercy of it. Might as well have just played on the test server. I was originally going to go in with a Pyra before the servers went down. Galleon was a last second change based on the server problems. Figured if something would go wrong, the chances of recovering with a giant turret would be better than a Pyra.

Btw...Shinryaku! means "invade". It is part of squid girl but the word itself means invade. The Japan players have liked it a lot so the name stuck. Although I switch it now with Black Maria just because that one goes with the name of the group.

Was pretty long today but no one could have really known we'd have that large of a hit to the servers. Matches were fine till our match with Destruct. Both sides got hit with heavy slow down. I was bumping into walls that I usually zip right by. Suspect part was cause of spectators, which I have only ever seen that pose an issue in 4v4. It was weird seeing that in 2v2. I gave a call out that we could barely move hoping qwerty and swallow would realize what was happening and suddenly it improved a little so I guess they saw it and shifted spectator spot. But a lot I think was just the servers getting slammed hard by the high population.
