Well, my laptop takes its sweet time to load, so I always have some time to kill. That is most easily done by reading the map descriptions... in the most dramatic british accent possible

Feedback and Suggestions / Ship Idea
« on: November 04, 2013, 01:27:11 pm »
I usually don't post stuff in this forum and I am sure that Muse already has more than enough ship designs, but the other day I saw this picture:
 http://th01.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2013/225/e/f/pure_steam___war_zeppelin_by_47ness-d68hxvs.jpg
and it made me think about an interesting new design. I just want to know what you guys have to say about this idea.

- Main feature: 2 balloons with individual hardpoints for repairing. If one balloon was destroyed, the ship would sink, but only very slowly. The ship wouldn't tilt to the side a lot tough. I understand that it would be really difficult to program and very annoying for everyone involved so we'll ignore that.
- rather low hull health and armour but the actual hull would be very small and also hidden behind the balloons. It would be nigh impossible to hit the hull from the side.
- average speed but maybe high turning speed?
- I am not sure about the guns. If there are side guns, the upper half of their field of fire would be blocked by the own balloon. Maybe the guns could be angled downwards and make the ship somewhat of a bomber.

in short, it would be something like a junker with lower armour and two balloons.

Comments?

I believe the  mission text of the map Raid on the Refinery also states that the facility (the blackcliff metal works) is one of the Baronies'.

That tells us several things:
- the Baronies have a strong and technologically advanced industry
- they probably don't rely on scrap as much as the Angleans or the Arashi League
- they rely heavily on slave labour, as stated in the text
- there are several of these big factories and the labourers are transported between them. I am still not quite sure why they have to change factory in the first place though. If they don't have enough workers and the transports are dangerous, why not concentrate on one facility and dismantle the others? Maybe the factories are specialised on different goods?

If you look at the map (http://www.mobbly.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Guns_of_Icarus_Map.jpg) you can see that Blackcliff is located in an actually rather secure spot, between Chaladon and the Mainland Baronies. As the Chaladonians seem to be a more peaceful nation, one would think that the metal works should be safe from raids.
The fact that they still seem to be a major battlefield shows once again how valuable industry is in this world.

I am in love with Belgian Beer (Partially because I grew up there, I guess but that only means I had more time to get to know the good stuff!).

Hands down my favourite is Pater Lieven Tripel,

although I can also recommend La Chouffe... oh there are so many beauties.

The Lounge / Re: What did you name your ship and why?

Goldfish: Bulletpoint - Fast, pointy, painful. Therefore the name was put together from "arrow point" and "bullet." Also, it's fun because of the actually rather peaceful original meaning of "bulletpoint".

Pyramidion: Ever Onward - Because of the charging nature of the ship. Also, this name has a rather heroic ring to it which I also find very nice.

Squid: Jolly Dodger - as reference to the Jolly Roger and the maneuvrability of the little guy. She used to be called "Why not Zoidberg" though. Because Zoidberg is somewhat of a squid, I guess?

Junker: Belly of the Beast - A great name, I find! She might not be very beautiful but damn, she can pack a punch! Also, I like greeting my crew with "Welcome to the Belly of the Beast!", whenever I start a game.

Galleon: Salacious Maiden - She has some really nice big guns. And she really enjoys you playing with them - if you know what you're doing.

Spire: Double Helix - Thanks to the spiral staircase and the long and narrow shape. A reference to the Form of a DNA strand.

Mobula: Steamroll - due to its general shape. I am not really satisfied with the name. Doesn't matter though, as I am not flying it anyway at the moment.

I just want to thank my Pyra captain who randomly started playing the "Ride of the Valkyries" in voice chat while we were utterly destroying a Galleon.

That one is indeed quite nice, Charon!

So what about insulting ships? Does anyone have something like this?

"Your ship looks like a rotting skywhale with an eating disorder and your desperate screwing of the helm doesn't make it any more nimble!"

I'm not sure whether it has been mentioned before but I found a nice trick to work on the Junker balloon and Pyramidion main engine. You can repair both from below!

It's very useful for Junker pilots when they are sinking as they simply have to take a step back and look up.

On the Pyramidion it's especially handy when the pilot is using kerosene/Moonshine as a single engineer can keep all machines running with minimal effort.

So, do you gentlemen have any verbal marvels to share?

I personally am very fond of the term "groundhog." In German, people without experience at sea are sometimes insulted as "Landratte," which basically means land rat. The English translation would be landlubber, I believe. Groundhog would be the same equivalent for crewmen aboard airships and I very much enjoy using this term!

Another great habit I adopted from Totalbiscuit is cursing in the name of Jesse Cox and his scurvy knaves.

I also like to insult my opponents as "scurvy ridden bandit scum" in general.

Did you take the video down? It's not available any more unfortunately. So far I haven't found any gameplay commentaries, which I find really sad. It could be really entertaining!
