"Merchant's; dressin' all hoity toity, washing their hands for haf'n hour, looking down their noses at the rest of us common folk.  But theres something sick tucked deep underneath all 'at glitter."

"So there we was, soaring' through the sky's, on the border of the Vast.  I was cooking the meals for the crew of The Sapphire.  One day, out of the great blue and by the blessing' of the Sky Whale himself we run into a herd a' Sky Cows.  Captain orders us to harpoon one 'n for dinner.  I skin the hide, I cut the stakes, I season, I grill, I make the best stakes my two hands and grill fork have ever made... Cap'n pulls me aside, looks me 'n the eye through his monocle, an' asks me to "prepare for him one of the finest delicacies'.... Sea Cow Tongue and.... Sea Cow Testies...."
*repulsive grumblings from around the table*
"Who would eat a sea cow's sea bag"
"You have all that money, and thats what you spend it on?"

"Foulest lookin' thing I ever put on me grill... Had to through away my good grill'n fork after that.  Merchant's got their grime just like the lot of us, they can just afford to dress it up."

    • Remove the challenges that are related to giving and getting commendations. In my opionion, players' only incentive for giving a commendation should be that they honestly feel he or she deserved it. Anything else removes from the main purpose of giving a commendation - a compliment, in a sense.
    • This is a small but in my eyes an important detail: In DOTA, you actually have to click on a player's name and the type of commendation he deserves to give him a commendation. It's not something you can just "do when the game is over and you want to do something with your mouse", if you catch my drift. You need to take that small extra step, which reduces the overall amount of commendations but at the same gives them more value: if you were commended, the player really did want to commend you.

Yes please, I feel like a scrouge when I dont give a commendation because its become that thing you do after each match.

I don't see the point of trying to automate a player's performance rating when we already have a commendation system that works just fine. I'd say we work on improving that instead of trying to implement complicated stat tracking and performance-evaluation algorithms. A captain is the best judge of their crew, and vice versa.

Also the last thing we want is more UI clutter or stupid 'point' popups. +100 open the game!, +300 walk and chew gum!, +450 jump off the ship!

Didnt read much of the thread yet because of TLDR (im at work) but this stuck out.  If we want to take something good from Moba's, why not just take there idea with the commendation system.  Instead of giving a general thumbs for things varying from being a good team player, telling a good joke, or doing your job on ship, why dont we have commendations for "Fun to play with", "Helpful", "Good piolet/ gunner/ engie", etc.

My only fear with changing speeds or maneuverability of the ships is that we'll get exactly what everyone is saying... games that are FASTER and more fun.  Yes good pilots will be rewarded, which is good, and I do like feeling like an air ninja, but once a handful of people learn how to do that games will be much quicker.  A lot of us are talking about how now its more of a "whoever gets the first hit/ surprise in wins", which in many causes is true.  But if we scaled up some of the ships speed and maneuverability I dont know if it would fix the problem as much as turn matches (from my PUG opinion) from nice 10-15 minute games to 5 minute charge straight in and get kills, and when you cant just slip out.

Is the game perfect, no, is it fun yes!  (then again i havent been in a tourney in awhile).

Maybe if we just increase some of the yield of the tools?  Make kero and moonshine pack a lot more kick.  Make claw give a little more spin.  However.... that could just make the pyra and junker into gods, lol.

Not an expert, not as much play time as many on this thread.  Just wanted to toss my two cents.

I'm glad you brought this up.  Somehow with all of the fire weapons being used as of late my mustache is still intact.  No mater how much fire is poured onto the ship I always walk away, mustache untouched.  Please address this issue ASAP

Things and Stuff aside, I feel like the game could use a few more things before we pile on stuff.  Like a big thing, a few small things, maybe a giant sky mammal thing. THEN stuff.

Gameplay / Non-meta builds that are fun and(or) effective
    « on: March 11, 2014, 12:41:56 pm »
Im always curios to find ship builds that are out of the ordinary, but work.  I know there might not be to much hidden out there that hasnt been uncovered, but thought I'd open this up to anyone who may want to share some their favorites.

For example, I've been having a blast flying my double carronade Pyra with gat/mortar sides.
Charge with lesmok and drop their balloons.  While they scramble from that we continue on past and hit with gat/mortar, or keep up with the carronades and sit on um.  Its a great "CHARRRRRRRGGGGGEEEE" build.

    EDIT: baddd grammer

I like to use typical long range builds and get as close as i can with them.
Sometimes I take a long range build and enjoy sitting back for a bit seeing ships explode, but I'm not really happy unless I'm in close ramming people.

Yes, so much yes.  I really love to fly a ship thats close range, in your face, brawling.  Im talking Double Carronade Pyra.  Medium range is also fun, although I feel like i'll change a bit soon.  If I see the other team is doing nothing but sniping, I may put a sniping side on a junker.  But for the most part i like me my close range.

Now although I like flying brawling ships, i really do like shooting lumberjack.  Some times its just fun to shoot people from super far away!
