Feedback and Suggestions / AI Mapping / Component Prioritization
« on: March 17, 2018, 02:52:03 pm »
This is a big idea, and can't be easily employed

As a programmer, I'd like to see the Objects on the Ship be able to get "sectioned off" for the AI / Player.

I'd like for you to imagine this as almost a "recommended area" sort of thing.

The Captain does all the wire-framing themselves, think of it like Loadout Recommendations, in the Ship Editor; but for Components to Keep an Eye on.  This would require the introduction of a new menu, of course, but I honestly feel it has a lot of promise.

The most simple and basic functionality I am trying to suggest here is that you could Recommend a Player (or designate the AI)  to shoot a SPECIFIC gun, like, Port Side Middle on crusader.  And let's take it a step further and add "Hull" to that to-do list.  The AI would then negate just about everything else and only fix hull and fix / shoot port middle gun.  If it's a player, obviously you can't suggest them to "disable Free-Will," but at the very least, it's a way to communicate to a new player "what they should be doing."

In the Ship View, the recommended components would almost "glow" a little with an outline.

This is my "biggest" recommendation to the game I've ever come up with, and it's sort of just been in the back of my head for years now...

Thoughts / input is welcome.

inb4 "this is redundant, people just need to learn to play / you just need to communicate with the other players"
please note, once more, the "glow" functionality.  This is for the game's current state, of "barely alive."  to ease the frustration of having truly absent-minded crewmen.   and to give a bit more "nudge in the right direction" for the noobs who have no idea what you mean by "No, not that Hull, the other hull.  the balloon.  dude it's right next to you.  omg.  why.  why God, have you forsaken us" etc

Feedback and Suggestions / PVE: Bosses Have TOO MUCH Mobility
« on: March 17, 2018, 02:43:18 pm »
Don't care about PvE?
This is not the Thread for You, then!  Off with you!

Care about PvE?
I find the Boss is too Agile.  Faster than any ship in the game in every single way.  This needs to stop.  How are we supposed to "tactfully" fly around boss' gun placements if, 90% of the time, it will keep you right on it's nose?

I find this to be especially true for the Baronite Boss.  As soon as that rocket barrage hits, you're F#*^&ING DISABLED TOO
Manage to get your engines back online?  Cool.  Just in time for ANOTHER BARRAGE!  rinse and repeat til you're dead.

Am I the only player with this general thought?

(If you're a dick maybe keep your comments to yourself, though).

General Discussion / Re: what do you think of the new spotting UI?
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:04:30 pm »
I would have to use and see it before I approve/disapprove of it.

In adventure mode, when we might fight multiple weak (minion) ships at once, this could be very useful.

In skirmish, where we usually know what we are fighting, I don't know how this would work.

Being able to not only see where the enemy is through clouds (when spotted) you would also be able to see how their ship is positioned, thus making it easier to snipe out guns, or plan an according approach based on their momentum (M button OP).

I think this outline is okay, but maybe having not only the red outline, but the white box as well.  Otherwise, the current system is fine.

EDIT:  A lot of people talking about how "white shows up better."

Let's say we make the red outline White, instead.  Thoughts on that?

I find the outline to be immersion breaking - no from me.

I'm a hardcore RP'er...  so, speaking of immersion,
the white box also breaks immersion.  Just to give some perspective.

Random crewman:  How come all these clans keep teaming up against new players?

Me:  It's just the new matchmaking system.  It'll get better.  Besides, the clans are practicing; the Sunday Challenge is right around the corner.

Random crewman:  ...but.. it's Tuesday...

Other crewman:  It's a really big corner.

xD

A moment of silence for all the great crew who never get a mention.

*snip*

 Better silent than criticised XD

I firmly disagree.  Even wicked criticism can make us better.
If people only said bad things about me, that's one thing; but if there's even an ounce of credible information that I can get from those things to make me a better pilot/crewmen, I'll take it all with a grain of salt.

Maybe that's just the Kitchen worker mentality.

Q&A / Re: GoIO Lingo?
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:27:07 pm »
"Tap" it:  The act of repairing a non-broken component by hitting it with your mallet, pipe wrench, or purse, and then immediately returning to your previous endeavor.

i.e. "Hey, tap the balloon real quick, please."

"Camp (aka Tank)" it:  The act of staying next to a component, broken or otherwise, and hitting it with whatever tool is most suitable, in an attempt to prevent it from breaking and causing your game to explode; most typically for the Hull/Armor.

i.e.  "AHHHH CAMP THE HULL!"
or "TANK TANK TANK TANK TANK TANK"

RistoH; my Finland friend.  Awesome dude to play with; very chill and still learning the game.  Extremely attentive to details and the finer mechanics of the game.  I trust having RistoH on my ship.

Derpy Squid;  One of my favorites.  Great gunner, great engi, great personality and temperament.  I trust having Derpy on my ship.

Sanji the Chef;  IRL friend.  Knucklehead...  Still learning and growing within the game, but very competent as a gunner.  If he's on my ship as a gunner, I play exponentially more aggressive then otherwise, because I know he's going to bring the pain.

CaptainItalia;  Fast learner, and very eager to do a good job.  I love having him on my crew.

Bberry;  nuff said, gurl ;]

General Discussion / Re: Top pilots
« on: November 14, 2014, 05:44:27 pm »
I could talk all day about how I would fly on a ship with a SAC member as captain, any day of the week.  I started idolizing Cactus, Lambert, and Tropo's piloting skills since my early days of GoIO (main reason why I was personally invested in trying to join their ranks).

However, I'll leave that biased opinion out of this list:

Spud Nick scares the balls off of me.  Seriously.  Unless I have a lobby of skilled players on my team, I rarely stick around X_X

Jub Jub is one of my favorite pilots to try to test my skills against (I usually lose, though lol)
actually, a handful of pilots from SPQR really make me feel like I'm back in my Novice days.  Very humbling learning experiences.

LeMoon is very high up there on my list of pilots that I always flock to be on their ship.  Always a fun pilot.

Mr. Trickery is always a delightful pilot to fly under.

Rucin is new to the game, and is on my list because they are doing an excellent job of learning the ropes.  Really putting in an effort to support gun-arcs and stay away from Galleon broadsides xD
Same goes to FreedomSoul.
I will leave a lot of matches or ships if the captain seems extremely uneducated on game mechanics, but I'll jump on those two Pilot's ships in a heartbeat.

I love new pilots that show potential.  It's like watching the next generation of 45's that get tossed on this list, while they are still growing and learning and getting better.  Almost like reading a really good book, and watching the plot start to unfold and take shape...   That's a learning experience for me, all on it's own.  Very magnificent, in my opinion.

EDIT:  Derpy Squid is my favorite co-pilot for casual gameplay.  He's very inexperienced with it, and has this sort of, timid piloting style.  It literally brings out the best in me.  My brain registers the match as "if I don't carry, and IDDQD myself into godmode, we will lose."  He isn't terribad or anything, but something just clicks, and I suddenly learn how to pilot, and we do an amazing job staying together and bringing the pain.
One of my personal favorites to fly under, as well.  Calm, perceptive, and eager to fly moar good.

IMAGINE IS GONNA BE ALL OVER THAT LIVE-STREAM!

Not sure if this last bit is sarcastic or serious.

Not sure if this whole post is sarcastic or a personal attack.

Relatively sarcastic, just to clear that up, lol.
