The Lounge / Re: Flying Angry
« on: November 13, 2014, 05:08:46 pm »
My mood is very ... sporadic from day to day within GoIO.  Perhaps, dare I say it...  match to match.  Playing with knuckleheads that don't listen to me can get on my nerves, quite a bit.  I have a tendacy to get a little chatty with my crewmates, captains, or otherwise.

it's not like I /hate/ ignorance.  I spend a lot of time explaining things to new players that aren't even lvl 6+ yet, things that i didn't learn until I was 500 matches deep into GoIO, still thinking that I can bring a buff hammer / pipe wrench to main deck a pyra!
It's odd, because I feel that it's a journey.  You start, having no idea wtf you're doing, or how to even literally even, and over time you start to learn things, and then later on you realize "bro I was so dumb before why was I trying to argue that a spanner pairs great with pipe wrench."

Then, you wake up;
Now you realize how everything works as a unit, and if one lippy-noob doesn't bring the right tools, that's going to be GG because you just joined a match where SPQR brought another pre-made (lol) and the matchmaking system decided to drop them into a novice match.  (srsly, wtf...)
Actually, nvm; it's SPQR... it's already GG and the ready checks haven't even shown up.

And that's where it begins for me.  The anger.  The Frustration.  Frothing about behind my teeth and reaching a boil, until finally the pot overflows.

You want to fly a gat/mortar pyra?  Fine.  but WOULD YOU PLEASE PUT THE GATLING ON THE RIGHT SIDE FFS THIS IS THE 14TH TIME I'VE TRIED EXPLAINING THIS SUBLTE YET SUPER IMPORTANT THING TO YOU!

or, one of my personal favorites, "JUST ACCEPT THE LOADOUT!  THE RANGE FINDER IS BROKEN, OBSOLETE, AND WE DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY ARCING WEAPONS.  STOP BEING A REBEL WITH NO CAUSE AND L2P PL0X KTHX."

perhaps even followed by something a bit more tame but infinitely more cheeky "Bro don't worry about that one enemy that is shooting me with all 4 of it's guns while you "try to flank them around this boulder" with one of the SLOWEST F@%*ING SHIPS IN THE GAME DUDE, THAT TACTIC SOUNDS PRO AS BALLS, I BET IT'S GONNA BE THE NEW META WHEN THIS MATCH IS OVER,  IMAGINE IS GONNA BE ALL OVER THAT LIVE-STREAM!  #REKT"

But yah, I tend to keep it to myself a lot these days.  I channel the rage and frustration through more meaningful and productive means:
Propagating my spite onto others through bullets and bloodshed.

But yes it should be there oooor - redesign the captain spot mechanic to work on unspotted ships,

I'm like, 99.932687% positive that the captain's B targeting already works on unspotted ships.

Patched Wizard - Do you want me to fly more aggressive, or stay passive.

spooninja - Passive

Richard LeMoon - Aggressive

Patched Wizard - So we will fly passive aggressively.

Richard LeMoon - We should have brought mines, then. Mines have to be the most passive aggressive gun.

Patched Wizard - I would have thought flares. Because flares highlight all their problems.

Later:

Patched Wizard - I am going to tell them we are going to ram them. Passive aggressively, of course.

in match text- we're coming for you. passive aggressively.

Our Mobula rams the galleon and dies.

Richard LeMoon in match text - It is your fault we died. You should not have let us ram you.

this is killing me.

Feedback and Suggestions / The DOT!!!!11
« on: November 12, 2014, 07:00:12 pm »
Hi!

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before or not, but if it is, I guess this is a bump of sorts.

I love to play the game in Third-Person mode.  While Piloting, especially, or otherwise.  I feel it gives me a bit of extra FOV, and that could very well just be a placebo effect, but that's not the point.

My suggestion here, is that I would love to still have the DOT, or crosshair, present on my screen even while I'm in third person.
I have no problems aiming at components or flying a ship while in third person, but my main complaint here is that, while piloting, I don't have that DOT to allow me to B my targets.  It makes it difficult in this new day where there are tons of new players, and simply saying "SHOOT THE GOLDFISH!", or, "SHOOT THE TARGET THAT'S A BIT HIGHER UP!", or even, "NO, NOT THAT SHIP, THE OTHER ONE!  WT#$&@!!!" doesn't work.
I hate having to switch back and forth from Third Person to First Person just so I can tag a target, to let my crew know that I mean business.  I wish I still had a dot so I could simply do it in Third Person.

this would also have a huge impact on making AI shoot at the correct target, while in Third-Person view.

As it stands, while in third person, I have to just randomly hit B while twitch-aiming at a target until it finally registers.  However, with a dot, that problem would disappear.

I don't know how many other people are on my side here, but this is just a personal suggestion; I think it'd be a good idea.  I think that Third Person is the master race for this game, but that lack of crosshair is very disarming, in my honest opinion.

Either way, I'm really loving the improvements being made to the game thus far, and I'd like to give kudos to Muse for doing such a great job trying to keep the game balanced and fresh, even for the old vets, and myself.

Cheers!

I will hopefully record the next ones as well, either as spectator or on a ship.

Here is the video from the last VIP we did, since I did not see it in the list.

I was like "WOAH WAIT A SECOND KITKAT IS NOT LEVEL 13, TOTES 45 I KNOW 'CAUSE I SEEN IT BEFORE"
ANd then I realized that this video is just a month old...
lol

Gameplay / Re: Why does everyone hate Gunners?
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:39:50 pm »
I read a few of the comments here, but I will post my own reply to the original post.

People who "hate" gunners do so because they have absolutely no frakking idea how to use them.
A good gunner, with the right rounds goes a very long way, on pretty much ANY ship, with ANY loadout.

Read Geo's post on page 1 for a really good description.

To reiterate,
Only the boring ships require 3 engineers (with the exception of the Mobula, but even that is up for debate...)

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Arbalest Heavy Railgun
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:30:51 pm »
I love the idea of a Piercing Heavy, but that gun sounds OP as hell.
Galleons would be the new OP Meta.

Like Indreams said.

again, cool gun idea.  I think it's angle, clip size, damage, and fire rate would need to be nerfed a little bit more.
but yah, again, I would love a Piercing Heavy in the game....

Imagine the goldfish plays...  Rush in, breaking hull, turn hard left/right and light 'em up with the mortar.
So sweet, so juicy, so different (for a goldfish)...

How are they going to make us a chef hat if they suspend the artwork? Didn't think about that now did you.

:o
DO WANTS!!!

To give an actual post, I do notice a significant drop in FPS on certain maps whenever the flamethrower starts going.
I have never had that problem before this patch.

holy crap I love this lol

Also, yes I think that Explosive/Fire or Fire/Explosive seems to be the most interesting and not likely to be overpowered combination. Plus, it fits in with the alternate reality timeline because firebombs were definitely available in WW1/WW2.

Heavy Napalm Launcher!

This is the best suggestion for a fire damage Heavy weapon that I've heard to date...
maybe make it stack a (greatly reduced) number of flames even on chem sprayed components to make it more viable.

Release Notes / Re: Version 1.3.7 Release Notes
« on: August 01, 2014, 11:21:03 pm »
I don't see changes to the Mobula and Squid gun and engine repair points in the notes, yet something has changed.

Yeah,  the upper squid engines seems to be closer to the center of the ship now.  I have to stick to the inner edge of the ramp by the railing to get the engine jump now when it used to work fine from the center of the ramp.

Oh, good!  I'm not the only one!
I was scratching my head about this the other night..

Being able to just hold the CTRL button (or... the left mouse button depending on what kind of human you are...)
has significantly increased the awesome factor of rapidly trying to buff or move from part to part while engi'ing.

Cheers, Muse!

Gameplay / Re: Authenticity vs. Realism in our Weapons
« on: August 01, 2014, 11:17:02 pm »
I know this is offtopic because this thread is about weapons, but it fits fere because of the realism discussion

F= m x (a[ship] x y)    y= 2.5 for kerosine (+150%)   y= 3.0 for moonshine (200%)

F= 50'000kg x 11.6m/s^2 x 2.5
F=1'450'000 N for kerosine/squid

F=150'000kg x 3.6m/s^2 x 3.0
F=1'620'000 N for moonshine/goldfish

Thrust of a russian engine that was used to at the space programm to launch exorbital missions: 1'638'000 N

Thrust of the engine used on the concorde airplanes ( they got a traveling speed of mach 1 ) :
169'200 N

AND WHY ARE THESE SHIPS STILL SLOWER THAN MACH 5?

don't take me serious, I love the game like it is and I'm waiting for the reality-discussions in the adventure mode

seems someone is on drugs here.

I think I laughed a bit too hard at this comment.
Good show.
