TimmyB Tournament: Season 2

TimmyB Tournament
season 2

Introduction

The TimmyB tournament is a Guns of Icarus tournament designed for all clans, all groups and all skill levels. It is a great way to get into the Guns of Icarus competitive scene, as it is a casual event and there will be few chances for the meta to be used. It is a tournament designed for the community members to meet each other, and to enjoy playing with each other. Throughout the course of the tournament participants will be playing with new people each week, and hopefully making new friends. The tournament will last for six consecutive weeks, starting September 19. The event will be held Saturdays at 2pm EDT.

The TimmyB tournament is a tournament designed by (you guess it) TimmyB. Sadly, he was never able to complete the project before he passed away to cancer. Through the friends he made in the community, and with the aid of many people within it such as Foxx, Caylin, Be'lanna, Eisbrecher, Ed Gauss, Gilder, the Muse team, the Gents, Brotherhood, Cake and too many others to name (please don't be offended if I missed you) we completed his tournament and brought you season 1 of the TimmyB tournament. We were happy to see many new and old players compete, and we had a very successful and fun season 1 to honor our friend's memory, and to see his dream fulfilled. And now, we bring you season 2...

Format

The tournament will be organized into random, 3v3 teams. The teams will be composed of individual ship sign-ups (maximum of four). Your ship does not have to sign-up for the tournament overall, they can sign up for as few or as many of the events as they wish. There will be a new sign-up every week. If possible, your ship will not play with ships you have previously played with in the tournament. Every week each participating ship will be designated points after the event, based off of how well they completed the goals of that week's event. At the end of the tournament, the shp with the most points wins. There are also many secret bonus points that your ship can acquire. How? who knows? Perhaps a new ship logo every week, or perhaps ram kills... The tournament will feature a new event each week. The events are:

Week 1: Standard Deathmatch
all ships, all weapons allowed
3v3
individual ship points for kills & assists: 10 points a kill, 5 for an assist. Assists are awarded if another ship penetrated or aided with explosive damage on the kill.
all 3v3 map pool
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time
7 victory points to each winning ship, x sad points for each losing ship (x being the team’s total kills)

Week 2: Munker Raid
Only ship allowed is junker
Only weapon allowed is the mine launcher
3v3
map is ‘Raid on the Refinery’
10 points are awarded to each ship that aides in a capture. 5 Points are awarded to any ship that successfully blocks.
individual ship points for kills & assists: 10 points a kill, 5 for an assist. Assists are awarded if another ship penetrated or aided with explosive damage on the kill.
+3 bonus point for each lochnagar mine used
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time

Week 3: Galleon Race
only galleons allowed
only light weapons allowed are flares and harpoons
ramming, tar allowed
only heavy weapon allowed is the minotaur
no firing of heavy weapons
no intentional killing
map is ‘Battle over Firnfield’
All ships line up at a pre-determined starting line (a map and info will be provided the week of the event). They must not cross the starting line or fire until the race begins. When the ref counts down from 3 and says "go!" the race can commence. The contestants must complete three circuits around the pre-determined course. The 1st place winner will gain 7 points, the 2nd place ship will win 4 points, and the 3rd place ship will 2 points. All other ships will earn 1 point.
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time
A map of the course will be revealed the week of the event

Week 4: Goldfish Demolition Derby
only goldfish allowed
only weapons allowed are minotaurs and harpoons
Kills must be by ramming
map is ‘Canyon Ambush’
individual ship points for kills & assists: 10 points a kill, 5 for an assist. Assists are awarded if another ship aided in ramming a ship to death..
+1 bonus point for each harpoon shot that penetrates armour
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time
7 victory points to each winning ship, x sad points for each losing ship (x being the team’s total kills)

Week 5: Random Everything!
Each ship and gun is randomly determined by dice roll (ship d8 (8 is reroll), big gun d6 (6 is reroll), small gun d12)  1 reroll per ship, no you can’t reroll ship
individual ship points for kills & assists: 10 points a kill, 5 for an assist. Assists are awarded if another ship penetrated or aided with explosive damage on the kill.
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time
all 3v3 map pool (d 6)
7 victory points to each winning ship, x sad points for each losing ship (x being the team’s total kills)

Week 6: Final Jeopardy
All ships and weapons are locked, and must be bought with the total points you earned
The amount of points you risk determines the tier of ships and weapons you unlock
Team victory, not ship victory, one team wins, but each ship on that team calculates their final points based off of their own points risked.
all 3v3 maps
5 minutes lobby time, 30 minutes game time

Tier 1:
0-25% points risked
ships unlocked: spire, squid
weapons unlocked: flare, harpoon, heavy flak, mine launcher, minotaur

Tier 2:
25-50% points risked
ships unlocked: pyra, galleon
weapons unlocked: heavy carronade, flamethrower, light flak, merc

Tier 3:
50-75% points risked
ships unlocked: junker, mobula
weapons unlocked: artemis, banshee, light carronade, lumberjack, hades

Tier 4:
75-100% points risked
ship unlocked: goldfish
weapons unlocked: light mortar, gatling gun, hwacha

VICTORY!
Victory will go to the ship with the highest points after Final Jeopardy.
Bonus points will be applied after Final Jeopardy.

Finale

After the conclusion of week six a victorious ship will be announced. All participants of the event will get an in-game badge (see me if you didn't get season 1 and you participated). The winners will also get a free item from the shop and a copy of GOIO for four friends.

If there are any questions or details I missed (and I'm sure there are) feel free to ask or point anything out. If you are interested in helping out the tournament, we would love more organizers, casters and cameramen! Just get in contact with me.

This tournament supports the American Cancer Society. If you would like to donate in Timmy's name click here.

It wouldve been nice to see standard competitive instead of gimmicky long games, but good luck! I'm looking forward to see how this is gonna play out and whether it can liven up the competitive scene.

A standard competitive event would be nice but this is one is meant to be a fun alternative to that. Hopefully we can get something going eventually.

Is attendance required for the entire 6 week duration or can people join/quit at any time? You didnt seem to make that clear.

It's very similar to Aerodrome in that there will be weekly sign-ups and you can participate in any week you want.

Keb stay tuned. As was announced after the Aero Final, there is something competitive coming. More details should come out sometime this week.

That said, I see Munker week, you can count me in!

Why no Minotaurs for that Galleon race (and Harpoon currently doesn't reel in).

That's a really excellent point. This tournament was originally designed in an older build, and we didn't account for the constant fixing and breaking of the harpoon. And I like that minotaur idea a lot, we will look into editing that week for maximum annoyance.

4pm EST or 4pm EDT?

More importantly;
If you are not living in the US, you will experience a time-shift.
On October 25th Europe will return to Standart time (as opposed to Summer time).
We will be switching the clock BACK so we're gonna have less of an offset.
(= the events will start an hour sooner than we might be used to)
Be careful!

End of Summertime for EUROPE  : Oct 25th
End of Summertime for AMERICA : Nov 1st

Timmy might have altered his design had the game changed this way back then. I don't see a reason why the event can't grow and change yet still remain true to his original dream.

Sorry Be'lanna, I'm just a poor ignorant Canadian who doesn't know his EST from his EDT  ;D. All kidding aside, thanks for bringing that up we will use EDT to clear up confusion, if anyone can edit my post for the change that would be appreciated.

Looks very interesting.

Just one question - sign ups each week are first come first served? so if 7 teams sign up the 7th doesn't get a slot?

EDIT: Also, goldfish unlocks in both tier 2 and 4, and mobula isn't listed.
