AI now keep using the ammo that is loaded
« on: June 27, 2016, 08:30:47 am »
This is now a thing, it is good.

I'm wondering though why the greatest thing since reccomended loadouts wasn't in any of the patch notes??

...because trusting the AI is dangerous

And...no one in their right mind would let a computer shoot for them unless it was it was out of PURE PURE PURE....DESPERATION?!

Not to mention we still have no faith in AI?!
Who FAIL MISERABLY compared to standard people?

...or is that just me?
Its probably just me.

You clearly haven't played with noobs aboard for quite some time, if you say, that AI cannot be trusted. I'd rather have an AI than some glue-eating cunt not doing stuff he was told to do.

The AI are situational but they can outperform even fairly skilled players in some cases (even before accounting for the fact they can cheat and see through clouds), other times they are worse than all but the actively bad novices. Even if you hate AI this change means that when forced to deal with just one on your ship they wont empty the ammo from your gun after firing it. The exception seems to be the AI that replaces the pilot while they are connecting (or have crashed or ragequit) which still seems to have the dumb behavior of unloading guns before firing them.

But on the Contrary Schwalbe, if you find a competant human being that hasnt sniffed 3 tons of glue and is WILLING to learn from you While systematically murdering a bunch of experienced players....
Then thats pretty much the best feeling in the world.
Something that some empty minded AI isn't going to provide me.

Its a bit rare, but i still have hope when i go flying with the newbs to recruit into the new clan im in.

That isn't by definition a noob.

Its a very specialised term specifically to refer to the glue sniffing imbeciles.

One of the bigger arguments against making AI smarter is that then vets would definately not want to play with noobs.

Also Skymonger, you have skewed definition of noob. Although it does originate from the word 'newbie', it doesn't just mean a new guy, or a greenhorn. It specifically means an imbecile.
To quote: "[when people are calling you a noob] they are not only saying that you have no idea what you're doing, but also that's a bad thing. You SHOULD know what you're doing, but you still don't. Or you show no interest into knowing HOW to do it. "

No vet wants to play with noobs anyway. I don't see the issue. The grief of teaching dumb people just isn't worth the hassle.

And theres not like a feature for locking empty slots.

I like playing with the new people.  I've met a lot of cool guys who want to learn, and are learning, and they like playing with me too.

Having [AI] Jesus is fun too.

Those by definition are not noobs.

What we are refering to are the "stop teaching me how to play, I'm just having fun as I instantly fail every encounter I come into because I refuse to be taught the basics of the games mechanics and meta" types.

You know. People that don't even bother to play the game but get all mad or frustrated and leave the game because somehow the game is bad, by some obtuse logic simply because they can't win without trying.

And THOSE are as common pennies.

I'm gonna rehash the point I made when this topic comes up.

Fighting games have high learning curve. Guns in comparison is nothing compared to it. And yet people all over the world love the games in the genre. It has such a solid following that it was esports before esports was a thing.

There is a standard of quality play. And you don't join that community without aspirations to get good at the game. To reach said standards and play on par with your peers.

This however is not apparent in guns of icarus. Its a sad state of affairs when the competitive scene is a niche within a PvP based game.

In anycase to the point. If you raise the bar, people will follow it up. If the game has a culture of people being put up to challenges as a norm. (in fact dark souls has a similar culture). Then the only expectation is that every player in the game wants to play the game well and to win.

Sure its not about winning and blah de blah... have you seen the game? It literally has the specific objective to win against an opponent. Sure you might not win. But the fun part is the earnest struggle to try.

No noob is doing that. All I hear from them are lame excuses.

Despite 3 different people explaining what a noob is, others still don't get it. Sigh.

We don't automatically hate any new player who comes into GOIO.
We have new players that come into GOIO which are morons unwilling to learn and get better
And only because most of the new players (especially during sales) are as I described above, vets are reluctant to new players in general (but I think any of us can agree that if a 1/1/1 comes into our ship but responds to chat and follows orders, most don't see a problem with having one of those on their ship).

Whole thing just has overwatch references.
http://plagueofgripes.tumblr.com/post/146807926296/tcbunny-when-i-was-lowbi-i-always-got-lost-in

But basically just fill in the blanks with Guns of icarus references.

Lets see...

- Matchmaker screws us over, places our crew of lvl 35+s against lvl 2 captains with a lvl 3 ally crew.
- Ally acts all tough and keeps taunting the enemy fleet.
- Enemy fleet dosen't care. Just promptly Slaughters him due to his suicidal charges.
- Repetitive attempts to communicate with the other ship is met with silence and continued use of idiotic charges.
- Ally is a Galleon, with a Lumber and Hwatcha on one side, and a Mino and Carro on the other. They try to kill the others with the Aft Harpoon gun.
- Enemy fleet singles us out and takes us head on yet we Brutally slaughter them with a Fully experienced Brawl spire.
- Twice.
- Ally captain throws the game by Ramming into a mountain.
- Ally captain complains that Galleon sucks. or _______ ship Sucks.
- Ally captain leaves before you can correct him.
- Enemy Team leaves because you Slaughtered them.
- Alone in lobby with your Clan crew.

Something like that?

Who the hell are Slaughters, Brutally and Ramming? ;]

(this sounds like 3 main characters of cheesy western set in GOIO world)
