Mail System
« on: April 10, 2016, 01:47:20 am »
I'm not always on when my friends are on and sometimes I want to leave them some sort of a message, but if they are not online, I can't do that. This wouldn't even have to be a mail system(where you send letters with titles and message and what not), just something that saves whatever you type to the person until they see it, like with steam chat. Just something I've been thinking about.

I've had too many issues with competitive contacts to not support this

wouldn't it be an issue of building up too much cache?
I mean its a concious choice to put that limitation.

If you want a more comprehensive messaging system, perhaps integrating steam and ingame friends would be a thing.

Or an option to send a steam request via the friendlist.

Some way to integrate the forum message system might work.

Yeah, the chat system really isn't designed to handle these. Adding a system for it would be cool, but it's not super likely.

Been there, done that two years ago, most answers in the spirit of "do it on steam/mumble/whatever" including two people from the team.

I do want it, but devs don't. Case closed.

That's a lot of time.

Fair enough. As I said, I do want this implemented in the game, I just don't have faith in it.

Even just a one message system thing that disappears once the person read it with a limited amount of characters would work. With the player base we have, it shouldn't take up much data at all. I also don't really get why steam and the in game profiles are so seperated, but I suppose it's for immersion and if so, then integration is probably not possible.

Some way to integrate the forum message system might work.

A lot of people don't really use this. I didn't even know it existed for the longest time to be honest. Still, if they somehow joined the system this website uses and put it in game, that could work pretty well and keep all messages exchanged in one place.

can you email muse the idea, please?

Yeah, I'm going to shoot them an email now, seeing all the support this has now. I post back when I get a reply.

You create a system that can take whatever strain it might take in the future (as best as you can afford for muse's case). No matter how unlikely. If the playerbase boomed to a million players, you have to design the game to be able to take those numbers.

Creating a system on the maybe, that one specific bad scenario won't happen is an open invitation to let it happen.

Plus integrating steam is far more viable than the forum messaging system. Since the game is already connected through steam via its client. You just need to poke around with  what's already there.

While integrating the forums will require a huge overhaul from basically scratch.
