A question regarding the Steam Workshop.
« on: June 07, 2015, 07:13:14 pm »
Hi.
I've been curious about how you guys select the workshop items that proceed into the game. I've seen some pretty well-made items that aren't in the game yet but have around 3k votes, and are in the workshop since long.
Is it based on community votes, or your preferences or both?

I am asking because I have an item in Workshop so I wanted to know :).
Thank you in advance!

I think, though am not certain, community votes help bring items further in the queue, and Muse then put the item through a "getting" procedure, to check things like copy right, of its suitable and if it fits into the game etc etc.
So in theory a bit of both, but Muse' part is less about if they want it in the game and more if it can be in the game.

3k votes... and the highest the population has been recently is only 2.5k most of which don't care about workshop.

this seems suspicious.

So basically workshop artists should try to make content that does not contain any kind of liscence thingies. I see.
Actually, do marks like the British "Peace" symbol have a copyright restriction to them? It is so common that I wouldn't think it is.

These 2.5k arent the only people that play Guns of Icarus. There must of been like 50k players on Steam that purchased the game AT LEAST. So these 3k votes were given since around February LAST YEAR and still is on the workshop up to this day and has around 3.6k views and votes.

EDIT: Apologies for the double post.

You should be able to find rules about licenses and copy right and links to more information through steam. The UK peace symbol might be protected, try google to see if it is or not, I cant offer much more help

Just surfed through google.
And briefly:
Quote
"So, if you can demonstrate that your use of the peace symbol is not merely ornamental but actually serves as part of your product or service identifier, you should be okay."

I think my artwork should be fine!  8)

EDIT: Also check this out, these are all trademarks. Should be totally fine then.

it also has to be considered if its appropriate for the game.

seeing as the guns world lorewise makes no direct references to the real world.

Did not understand that part, could you rephrase that?

For example the world lore must be kept into account, so star trek borg masks wont be accepted because they're not "lore friendly" among other things

I'm curios about the Lore behind my fabulous pink  Steampop hat...

Where does it fit?

I think the game already has content that misfits the lore, or at least doesn't have much of a theme to it :P. Still though, mostly the content is done for the players, 100% for the lore.
I hope I still have it seemingly fit for the lore any way.

You question the legitimacy of the pink steam hat?!?!

How dare you!

I'm sure the Devs will decide appropriately, and sometimes some.items may be borderline but its also partly based on lore not yet released.

:o I love the hat! Hence the character in the profile image is named "Captain Fabulous"  - a fitting name for someone of such elegance and coordination in battle.

I do not question. I contemplate.  :P

I just hope they tell artists what could be improved for release or anything. Otherwise not cool  :(

Also pink hats for real men.
