Clouds are getting riddiculous
« on: March 29, 2015, 07:38:45 am »
There is a legend that every patch Muse adds a new cloud to every map.
This is getting out of hand. Canyons used to be a fun map but now it's just....awkward. Same goes with paritian and labirynth. Also clouds are buggy by default (as Devs say), so decreasing their amount could be healthy to the game and fps stability.

What do you guys think?

I agree so very very much, what's the point in all the art on the maps of you can't see them?! :'(

That's one thing, I also think that maps for GOIO were created by artists, not designers, and that's not really a good thing.

But if we get to the point were you can 'only' avoid hitting buildings on paritian when you're using the map every 5 seconds (no, this is not a hyperbole), I consider it a design failure, unless your game is called "Silent Hunter"

Yes the map is meant for tactics, not basic travel...
Maybe there should be one map where the visibility is so bad you cant see well, but not most of the maps.
As for artists versus designers, still the same point of, we cant see the hours or work someone put into the map :(

I don't know how it was before, I personally like how canyon ambush is really "ambushy"

but please please give the flare gun an arming time (to reduce or increase with ammos) so that we don't flare ourselves on invisible clouds and instead we reveal enemies in the proper cloud. Or even better make it go through the clouds and reveal in a sphere radius during its flight for a brief moment the ships, making it less of a static asset of the battlefield.

and last thing: can the AI fire on ships only marked by the human crew or B command of the captain?

The clouds on Paritian i think is alright.
Clouds in Canyons need to be toned down a bit.

But do bring flares, cus those make clouds Non existant if you use them well.

Oh yes clouds are a gear tactical advantage but not when they cover too much of the map.. :(
In my opinion it should be that you see a cloud and go "ohh look we can sneak in that!" Not a case of " How do we find the enemy when there are more clouds than visibility?"
It just feels a little too much on some maps...
Clouds of Icarus..

I never noticed clouds as a big issue.. aside from sometimes giving fps issues.. but that's probably cause I don't usually get to pay attention to whats going on..

.. I'd be for a map smaller then dual but is entirely clouds... with a fair bit of obstacles.. It might be fun..

Yeah my two cents are that the number of clouds on the maps are, at the very least, inoffensive but having played these maps so often I suppose I'm just used to it or familiar with the level design despite the visual obstructions.

Clouds are of course a necessity as some form of cover allowing for map movement against longer range ships. As far as canyon ambush is concerned though there are plenty of rock spires that act as hard cover so I suppose less cloud coverage there wouldn't be the end of the world but I agree that I do like the current feel of uncertainty wading into the ambushy areas of canyon ambush

B command.

as for clouds in ambush... eh... I always fly above anyway. I take people by surprise with little effort as the given terrain is enough. Kind of annoying when invisible clouds block spots though.

As for paritan?

Seeing as I see big ben in there. A foggy london town doesnt seem out of place to me. But that's just coming from a londoner.

I'm pretty sure the reason clouds kept getting added is to cut down on mercury/ artemis sniping matches.
