Game mode level requirements?

I don't feel like locking new players to novice would be a good idea. I really liked playing with skilled players when I first joined--before novice matches existed--and getting to learn from and make friends with the best people around was part of what kept me coming back to the game. Besides, it's annoying.
Also, sometimes your team isn't going to get what's going on and you'll lose, but that's not the end of the world. In my experience once you explain how the mode works most people pick it up pretty quickly :)

I don't get this sentiment. Most lvl 1's and 2's I've encountered are eager to learn and can do the basics of gunning/engineering on a mobula with a little instruction.

I frequently encounter new players that I have very good experiences with. In fact, it's quite rare to run into uncooperative players. The best way to root these out is giving recommended loadouts. In my experience most new players are very pleasant to play with.
The key is communication! If you don't communicate don't expect anything. Communicate well, yelling doesn't work. I wouldn't recommend them on squids though.

I would suggest not letting new novice players join normal games as pilot. Try to tick the advanced checkbox and get the message "You will not be able to choose pilot or captain a ship outside of Novice matches." That would solve some of the CK issues.
