Burst does nothing for the gat in terms of aoe. You are just shooting slower.

I`m not a personal fan of the old flakker, light or heavy. Give me 2 Burst Gattlings any day. Despite the less than stellar hull damage, very little in the way of components will survive an extended burst.

if by "burst" you mean burst rounds, who even uses burst rounds for a gatling. Considering burst rounds has 0 effect on the gatling because it has no explosive effect

In novice matches people just dont know what to do nidh.
When they leave them they use those strange builds as loadouts and ships are restricted in them.

But as others said.
Burst on Gatling. NO. Greased, sometimes lesmok, heavy or incendiary. But usually greased.
dual gatling also only makes sense if u intend to ram alot. If not you will miss the damage to kill the enemy once the armor is down.

Its a bid better than dual flak but the same thing. You miss one component of the kill.

Once upon a time double Flack front was pretty powerful. Then awkm changed the explosive damage multiplier vs armor and the build went away. This was back when heavy flack goldfish rules the skies and a reliable flack gunner was worth his weight in gold. I could see double flack with incendiary rounds being a good way to nerf yourself without begin completely ineffective. The fire will break the armor eventually, and make the engines run around the ship. I wouldn't do it in a serious game, but if I get a few 5-0 wins this sounds like something worth a try.

The only time I use burst on gattling is against the occasional Squid, for timing reasons. Otherwise, useless. The only time I use more than one flak is for Silly Build Time.

2 Heavy flaks is actually pretty hard hitting even for the armor.
One person can manage 2 heavy flaks, and both fire and reload at a very good time.

The rate of fire of 2 heavy flaks firing constantly is like 1 heavy flak without a reload.

Why do people pair flak up with gatling guns? It seems like it's gimping the flak guns range. Wouldn't the Scylla mortar be a better fit for the gatling gun? Better sustained DPS and no minimum range to worry about.

Mortar is what is usually used, yes. Flak pairs better with Hades.

I prefer the mercury to the Hades, but only because i have a hard time hitting anything with the Hades.

My nightmares are fueled by competent Hades gunners.   :o
