Title: Double Flack on Pyramidion
Post by: SuperPrincessPeach on May 26, 2014, 12:42:42 am
Ummm tried this for few rounds and....isn't this little too OP?

Not even close. Flak does a great job once armor is down on a ship, but cannot strip the armor down by itself. It's best when paired with a gun like the hades.

All Explosive Guns like the Flak or Mortar dont do alot unless the enemy lost his armor. You can shoot him for hours but a decent opponent will easily counterrepair the dmg due to the little damage explosive does against everything except permahull.
Sure once the armor is down the enemy will die within seconds but this job can be done by one flak or mortar in the same way.

Hades/Flak boats are easy to beat. Arming timer fails again.

Why would you assume it is OP?

In theory double flak works fine if you can wokr together with the other ship(s) to destroy enemy's armor. But no mater how good your coordinations, good enemy teams will find a way to split up the 2 ships, and eliminate the ship that can destroy the armor first.

Well a build that basiclly requires a team mate to help you out ins't OP, although I did play a 3v3 once where we had an all flak pyra and 2 spires (I was on one of the spires) sniping out their balloons and popping their armor

I was piloting that all flak pyra and I got 5 kills damnit. Really though, without support a double flak pyra is useless.

 Teamwork is always OP  :o

Also, if you think 2 flaks are OP, wait till you get 4...

That was the 3v3 match I was reffering too, I sat on my spire and watch you run around flaking everything that came close

According to my calculator, two light flaks using greased, working against mallet repairs against a pyra are going to need 24 shots each taking 16 seconds.

Thats bad.

However, those same light flaks will only need 4 shots each to kill the perma taking .66 seconds.

As everyone has been saying, without another ship stripping armor, this isn't viable. However, if armor is stripped, this becomes godly.

But then you could do the hades flak and another hades flak or a gat mortar which we saw in competetive already.
Yes its great but why should i focus one dmg on one ship when i already need two ships for it two work.
Rather give each ship the ability to do sth and get the same amount of dmg of one type.

I`m not a personal fan of the old flakker, light or heavy. Give me 2 Burst Gattlings any day. Despite the less than stellar hull damage, very little in the way of components will survive an extended burst.

And will take you approximately three years to finish off the other ship.

Double flak and double burst gatlings... what in the barnacle is going on in the newbie matches?

Burst does nothing for the gat in terms of aoe. You are just shooting slower.

if by "burst" you mean burst rounds, who even uses burst rounds for a gatling. Considering burst rounds has 0 effect on the gatling because it has no explosive effect

In novice matches people just dont know what to do nidh.
When they leave them they use those strange builds as loadouts and ships are restricted in them.

But as others said.
Burst on Gatling. NO. Greased, sometimes lesmok, heavy or incendiary. But usually greased.
dual gatling also only makes sense if u intend to ram alot. If not you will miss the damage to kill the enemy once the armor is down.

Its a bid better than dual flak but the same thing. You miss one component of the kill.

Once upon a time double Flack front was pretty powerful. Then awkm changed the explosive damage multiplier vs armor and the build went away. This was back when heavy flack goldfish rules the skies and a reliable flack gunner was worth his weight in gold. I could see double flack with incendiary rounds being a good way to nerf yourself without begin completely ineffective. The fire will break the armor eventually, and make the engines run around the ship. I wouldn't do it in a serious game, but if I get a few 5-0 wins this sounds like something worth a try.

The only time I use burst on gattling is against the occasional Squid, for timing reasons. Otherwise, useless. The only time I use more than one flak is for Silly Build Time.

2 Heavy flaks is actually pretty hard hitting even for the armor.
One person can manage 2 heavy flaks, and both fire and reload at a very good time.

The rate of fire of 2 heavy flaks firing constantly is like 1 heavy flak without a reload.

Why do people pair flak up with gatling guns? It seems like it's gimping the flak guns range. Wouldn't the Scylla mortar be a better fit for the gatling gun? Better sustained DPS and no minimum range to worry about.

Mortar is what is usually used, yes. Flak pairs better with Hades.

I prefer the mercury to the Hades, but only because i have a hard time hitting anything with the Hades.

My nightmares are fueled by competent Hades gunners.   :o

Well when the OP has content like "one of the worst builds in the game is too powerful" people tend to find something else to talk about. Besides idk how anyone can come to the conclusion double flak is OP, unless they were on the recieving end of Mysterious Medic's shenanigins a few weeks ago when he flew that double flak pyra on Fjords with a team of 2 spires to pierce armor.

I thought the reason we took the double flak that game was because we were laughing at this thread! =P

We really should develop new metabuilds for Novice matches and suggest them on Dev's fireside or on forum or how do you usually make devs do minor and important changes.

Itis clearly should have been done before sale, but well.

I did it already but it seems it takes a bid of time.
And there is no dual flak in novice even though there are strange builds in there ;).

Unless you can time travel Geo, I don't think that is the case considering we played that match before this topic was posted
