The Bounty Board
« on: September 21, 2013, 03:06:18 pm »
I love that you guys implemented the bounty board in-game. I think that it needs work in its current state. Currently anyone can sign-up to be wanted, and it was immediately filled by a lot of low level, sometimes all level 1. Now I know level doesn't necessarily reflect skill, but it certainly helps paint a picture.

I feel that there should be a level requirement of at least 4, and possibly a time played requirement. This will at least provide some time of filter from allowing brand new players from signing up. If they do not have the skills needed, they'll be continuity hunted and killed until they don't want to play. And on the other side, hunters want a good challenge, a real bounty, like smollett or xemko.

Signing that so much. Just not so satisfying if u have to hunt newbies. They are bounties and not random criminals stealing a lolly or a teddy. No offense. But for a bounty u want to hunt the big guys.

Sprayer, first off, please talk like an adult. Secondly, I made it quite clear it is not about that.

Don't be stupid. The chances of a lvl1 with like 4 matches played being around to be hunted its significantly lower than someone higher level who is more likely to be around to be hunted.

That is the other major issue. I don't expect to see half the people who signed up to ever be on regularly.

Actually, we sort of are active. Whether you're in the right time zone to catch us online is a different story ;)

Season 1 is definitely our learning season as we work out the bugs and make sure we set it up correctly.  Actually the Friday that we opened registration and I saw how quickly it filled up (12 minutes) I knew we were going to have to organize it differently.
The engineers already have some revised specs and we'll find more ways to make sure our most active players have a chance to sign up and prove their mettle.

Perhaps maybe spread the bounty heads into tiers? So i.e. there could be 10 bounty heads for lvl 1-3, 10 for 4-6, and so on. I don't think limiting the bounty board to the most active players is gonna be too fair, because then the more casual, active players aren't gonna get any chance to sign up.

Question... when exactly do bounty sign ups start... because if it's the usual time tournaments take place it's going to be 4 am every time for me :\ and since there are 20 bounty places if you're on the other side of the world you're gonna miss it

And I agree with this completely

Here's how I'd do it:

Anyone can sign up. However, the list will only display the top 20 at any given time. To get in the top 20, you have to be active and have a good kill/death ratio.

It's not necessary to be high level, the list should display a mix of levels. However, you must have played a reasonable amount the last days, and have a positive k/d or win rate.

This way, the top "wanted" list would actually reflect skilled players and be a source of motivation for the rest to aim high and earn a bounty.

How do the scores work? I made 70 points for 3 matches won while other bounties only made 30 points for 5 matches.

The points are how much you are worth.  Because your average level is 7 you're worth 70 and others average level is 3 they're worth 30.
For the bounties the real thing you're going for is overall number of wins to beat your criminal compatriots.

As far as tiered system, that's what we're looking at right now.  We've got a meeting this morning and updating the system to a tiered one so there are targets across all types of play sounds like a good idea.

Also more bounties since the morning after hunting went live some people had already captured 7 of the 20.

I really don't like the first come, first served principle of the current bounty signup system.
What I'd like to see is a system which favors people who
- they actively participate at the bounty system
- are "skilled" (I want to hunt worthy opponents, not prey)
- are very active and hence available in case I want to hunt them.
Also I'd like to see the number of bounties to be very limited. Being a bounty should be considered a privilege.

What about this signup system:
- allow people to signup for the next season once a season starts.
- grant the top 3 bounties and the top 3 hunters a guaranteed spot in case they sign up for the next bounty season
- fill up the remaining slots with people from the sign up list using a point system similar to this: (bounty hunter points)*(1+ (highest class rank lvl)/15)*(1+ (average number of games played per day played during the last bounty season)/10). The people with the highest 'score' are the bounties for the next season

An entirely unrelated request:
please introduce another menu point to the bounty board where you can keep track of targets one already hunted down.

And a question regarding the value of bounties:
is the value set and fixed at the beginning of a bounty season or can it alter during a season?
