Fond Memories:
« on: October 29, 2015, 09:51:16 am »
So, on this fine, miserably raining day (Britain...) is the Third Birthday of Guns Of Icarus Online.

In those those three years, I am sure many players have had fond moments, what are yours?

I have had the game nearly two years and have many fond moments,

When I was slightly younger, I was on a Munker with Schwalbe (Sorry if I spelt that wrong) and other friends using a sound board, as the enemy collided with a mine field, I played out a Dexter Quote - "Surprise M..." (Im sure you know the rest...)
It was easily my funniest moment in Guns Of Icarus, I was laughing for ages afterwards.

Another fond moment of mine was meeting my first Bard after becoming a member of The Bards, Sir Steffen, We made a Flamer/Mine Pyra known as Nautilus. We went around every game with it, was a blast - literally.
I now have a new Bard Vessel - the Soul on Fire. A bundle of fun with a loving loop from Hypnopotamus Rex of Soul On Fire playing in the background.

Well, I have many more fond memories but those will do for now, I wish to know of your fond memories of this game over the last 3 years.

Favorite memories?

Running the Spider Mob -- a mobula with triple flamethrower, double harpoon -- in a Dev game and trolling Keyvias's Spire (I believe) by sneaking up behind him, grabbing on, and Spire-surfing across the map. Watching in that same game as my gunner scored a kill against a Galleon with an Incendiary Harpoon.

The CA game where almost no one showed up, so we ran 2v2, Squid only, Harpoon only, AIs on guns only, no repairing armor allowed. Took an hour until the first kill, if I recall correctly.

And, just the other day, the feeling of exhilaration when my Chute Vent / Hydrogen Mobula managed to not only lose two trailing Pyramidions with breaking engines but also lose the spot and regain advantageous positioning to successfully 2v1 them through some crazed piloting hijinks through the arc of Northern Fjords. Credit to my amazingly on-point engineering team, and sincere apologies to my balloon-side engineer.

Even though I haven't played much, I've had some good memories.

Playing with Grimick and joining the Grim Reapers being the most recent.

Another fond memory was playing with some Bards (though I didn't know about them at the time). Still have the three I played with on my friends list, including nanoduckling.

Gotta love the GOIO community.

One time I was main engineer on a Pyra that had two flare guns in the side gun slots. My captain and the rest of the crew were busy coordinating a 2v1 assault on an enemy ship when I see the other enemy ship approaching from the rear. I empty both flare guns putting two in the enemy's balloon and two in the hull. Shortly after my team kills the ship it was focusing on and goes looking for the 2nd enemy, only to realize that I had killed it with four flares.

Back in the days of custom lobbies, DJ Logicalia's Afternoon Jam Session was always a fun time. I could play music for the whole lobby and no one complained because of the power of the jam session. I loved those lobbies

The day I first played this game, back with Extirminator, adumb and Starker, the last one having gifted us all the game.

Extirminator rarely piloted, but when he did he flew a Spire with all Carronades on Canyon Ambush, I was his gunner with two AIs. We were winning with no deaths up until the enemy Junker, which just so happens to have been piloted by Spud Nick, flared our front gun. And then we lost.

And mostly, "The good old days".

Speaking of the old Lobby days, I remember several occasions in lobby when that one guy joined and refused to follow the captain's instructions for load out. Instead of forcing one captain to fly with a sub optimal crew the entire lobby exited and reformed with the same ships and teams in a brand new lobby. There was no jockeying for better team mates, or sticking your opponent with a disadvantage. Just the unspoken understanding that one person can ruin the experience for an entire ship, even if the ship was an enemy that round, those players deserve better.

I remember I used to make lobbies called:

The Mann's Lobby of Explosions and Possible Mobulas!

They were lots of fun. Shame no one ever visited them...

One of my first pilot matches, more than year ago. Without using a mic I led a group of fresh people in novice match (I had SOME knowledge from flying with Disaster and Alko), used ally as a bait and slaughtering everyone 5-0.

That intense match against Bionics and Jim, when I wanted to fuck one bastard up for mocking my accent, and Specialists switched sides - it was the Paritan Rumble and I managed to win 5:3 with blenderfish (I believe?), by sneaking up on bastards.

That one Labirynth match where everyone took FULL munkers, and that one idiot who touched the mine... in something like 90 mines minefield (though the game lagged for next 6 bloody minutes).

I almost forgot the best moment I had with Extirminator: You guys know that achievement where you need to spot ships at a distance of 2km+? We were on that 4v4 Battle on the Dunes and Ext needed exactly 4 more spots, so I did the only reasonable thing one could do in this situation: Made him turn around and spotted all 4 enemy ships first. Took him two more months to get the achievement. The cruelest part of it all may be that I didn't even have any spotting achievement myself.

I remember those days. Did it quite a few times. If people wanted achievements they'd ask and we'd work them in but if they outright refused or were just angry about it, we'd speak up and then the whole lobby would reform. It was a great way to deal with problem players back in the early days. They just never got to play. Trolls existed but never for long. If someone didn't like it they learned quickly who the bosses were.

I don't remember that happening much after the first Russian invasion period. It was hard to combat that many people jumping in at once and their behavior was so bad at times it just made you outright leave instead of trying to work around it.

Well.. i'm, maybe, not the competitive player and my clan never have been seen in tournaments (mostly because my crew, he-he, is my parents and my brother), but we still have a lot of good and fond memories.

I remember my first flight as gunner for Lockhart.
Remember how i first captained my ship in first match, trying to make it work.
I remember how i argued with my father, the all-mighty Mirage, about how we should shoot, and when.
Remember how we first battled with Polaris against some old-time vets. And how awesome it was!
I remember first 3vs3 match, where i had to take a fleet commander role and almost got an mental BSOD. xD
And, of course, first time in Paritan Rumble, map with which i fall in love momentarily.  And first victory there against two hwacha fishes.
And i can't forgot a good match there against Polaris with theyr good-damn-my-balloon lumberfish.

I think there was too much good moments.)

So yeah. It's an awesome game. And it gave me and my family a lot of fun moments.

I have never known someone to play this game with their family, that is quite impressive.

I have had many matches which I have enjoyed.

I once joined a game as a captain and my teammate was level 45. I tried to swap ships with the enemy team who had considerably lower levels. No one wanted to swap.

Me, wanting to try and balance the game then decided. I will bring out the Flares Of Eternity.

That is the name of my triple flare squid. Only used it 7 times...
This was one of those days. I got everyone to equip Heatsink Rounds and we charged in full on moonshine and impact bumpers. the other item was hydro to dodge their Spire's Hwacha.

Was a lot of fun. 2 ram kills and a happy crew listening to fine music and we sadly won...  :-\

So far, to date, I have won about 6 of the 7 times I have used that ship and I only use it when there is no alternatives  :(

I would love for there to be an achievement for stupid builds like that. I could get a tag called "Insane"
