Yes but steampunk has always given me a British vibe. Isn't it supposd to have stylistic roots from Victorian England?

Yeah, Steampunk basically is just Alternate-world Victorian England.

Therefore British accents make sense.

Although to be fair, GoIO isn't actually steampunk. It's Dieselpunk that takes a small amount of influence from steampunk.

Actually...
The costumes have a 50/50 influence from both Steampunk and diesel punk. The air ships themselves are designed with Victorian based designs in look but their functions are, a mix of steampunk design (lots of steam works influence in those designs!) yet they run off petrol, diesel and steam, depending on the ship you're flying (exhaust particles vary on ships.)
Meaning the dieselpunk influence is a little bit less than the steampunk influence..

Still, you can't call it a steampunk game if 80% of the airships are mostly dieselpowered. It's obviously a more diesel powered world takes place in goio if that is really how their technology works.

The Steampunk tag does not come from just the engines fuel source. There is a lot more to both Steampunk and Diesel Punk than the fuel type.
For example Mad Max can be considered Diesel Punk, and Mad Mac has a very different style and setting than GoIo.
GoIo has a lot of influence from Victorian science fiction writers as well, many of which are now classed as "steampunk" by genre.
The tag refers to the style, which based on design, back story (especially backstory!) and fashion sense, GoIo is much more Steampunk with some dieselpunk influence.

Also "80%" is an inaccurate figure for ships powered by diesel. :)

So although GoIo has Dieselpunk influences, it is far from the genre of diesel punk.
Watch water world, mad max, mad max 2, the new mad max (Do not watch Thunder dome!) and research waste landers to see more diesel punk and compare to GoIo :)

How do we know which ships run on specific fuels? I'd assume they all use petrol, and adding moonshine or kerosene sounds like torpedo power plants. I'd say it's steampunk themed regardless of engine fuel https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieselpunk

We can only really speculate and second guess the fuels, as I mentioned above, not every ship.exhaust is pumping the same smoke/steam and there are not many other clues to what is being used as fuel.

But yup, you summed up what I was trying.to explain :)

That's the beauty of genre's which have not been corrupted by main stream and commercialism ideals.
They can vary, and there is no "it's this and can't be anything else nor show inspiration from.other genres!!!"
Unfortunately Steampunk recently became fashionable... In the past three years it has turned from a niche genre which celebrated hand made artisan craftsman ship for tailors, leather smiths, tinkerers, blacksmiths and prop makers into a mainstream recognised fashion where.. "If you stick a cog on it, and spray paint those cheap swimming goggles brass or bronze, you have a steampunk outfit!!!"

Commercialism and mainstream ideals suck...
