You telekinise a violin made out of atoms. You've been wanting to play a song for some time now....you pick a song you have named after something.

"Oh?  Huh?  Origin story?"

*Settles in and sips cider thoughtfully.*

"Sorry, was lost in a reverie... My father was a low class merchant with the Guild.  I was expected to take up the business, but my passion for engineering machines rather than profits made things... difficult with father."

*Refills his flask with more cider.*

"So, I cut ties.  Built my own Junker, the Arkos, and started to make preparations.  Of course, flying a Junker of all things, they figured I was an Arashi out for blood.  New as I was, I'm just lucky they didn't set the Trading Troops on me... Great respect for those men and women, don't get me wrong, it's just they wouldn't have hesitated to do their jobs.  I picked up a few of those odd Orange Suited crewmates and flew away, but they sent a Mobula after me.  I got into a canyon and ambushed them; took out the engines and threatened to do the same to the crew if they tried to fix them.  I can assume you know what a Whirlwind does to a man... Nasty business.  We sent 'em off in a dinghy and towed the ship behind us, actually landed here.  This place is now my home port- Every ship I own resides here.  I've slowly amassed my little armada and have started up my own trading company.  That's pretty much my whole life story."

(Carn) "I doubt they would have sent their own military after you. At least from the relatively little you did. The Guild often prefers mercenary work. Last few years I did some contract work for one of the guildmasters. Bastard still owes me a few favors. Also got contracted by the Order two or three times. I told you about the mutant plants tight? That was one of those contracts. They've hired me to hunt down their rogue, crazy scientists. And believe me, the Order of Chaladon has a higher concentration of them then the other factions." scratches his chin "Nobody is curious about me? I've only told you guys scraps." takes a swig from a hip flask

(Carn) claims the comfiest looking chair, then lobs a fireball into the fireplace "Well, I've already told you about how my great-grandfather found the hemovibrium and the notes to work it, therefore making Bloodsong. I've told you that I found the blueprints to make Roxane in a pre-war facility. And I've told you that I was in a marauder unit." takes a swig from his hip flask "I was born in a small town you won't find on any map. It was a converted pre-war complex on a small island in the Chill Sea. My father was in the military, and my grandfather. Both died when I was young. My grandfather when I was five, from a wasting disease, and my father when I was eight. Killed in combat against the Empire. In case you haven't noticed, I have a deep seated dislike for Yesha. When I was 16 I enlisted, my mother lived long enough to see me graduate basic, then she also died from a virus. One month later the Empire tried to invade Anglea. My original posting was as a infantryman, nothing but canon fodder to the brass. However I did quite well and Gunhild recruited me as a Marauder. After that I spent the next two years deep in the Empire." takes another swig "In Yesha there are three main political groups. The Ox, who prefer peaceful expansion, the Deer who prefer trade, and the Tigers, who prefer military conquest. I'm credited with the deaths of over 50 Tigers. After the two years the Empire got tired and sued for peace, so I was called back. The next five years I spent doing various missions with the unit, near the end though. A certain senator wanted me to carry out a certain order, one that I wouldn't carry out. They tried to court marshal me, but it turned out the senator was conspiring to commit treason, and by refusing the order I exposed him. So, I was found innocent, however the act of insubordination remains on my file. I knew I wouldn't get much farther in the military because of it, so when the time came, I didn't renew my contract. I packed up and headed out to try a secure a future by other means. Three years, and several contracts later, I wound up on a Goldfish in the middle of nowhere, with a captain and crew greener then Chaladonian grass. You guys know the rest....." scratches his chin "Wait, I guess Spades wasn't here then." turns to him "Bandits shot the ship down, the crew bit it. I hoofed it to town and came in here. Next day I got some help," points to Koali "then went back out there and fixed her up. She's now the Valkyrie, the ship we've been flying around on your little errands for awhile now."

(Carn) "When a senator gives a sergeant a direct order, it usually happens. I could have stayed in, but the fact that I committed insubordination will stay on my record forever. It makes advancement difficult."

(Ingur) begins to laugh

(Carn) gives a small smile "I believe awhile ago I told you how tightly controlled the border is. It would be difficult enough to sneak past them. Then you would have to prove you are an Anglean, which I know you are not. And as you are not human, and posses rather interesting abilities, they would rather experiment on you. There's no creature as cold and cunning as an Anglean scientist."

"Tough to sneak past the border? Who's talking about sneaking? I'd like to see them try to experiment on me! The most they could do is glue my mouth shut and damage my clothes. I can handle the glue, but the clothes? That's Keg-worthy."

(Carn) "You've just proved my point Koali. There is no way you could successfully enlist. Combined with the fact that the minimum contract time is 3 years. You go AWOL without good reason and you can expect a court marshaling."

(Ingur) stops laughing "Koali, no offense, but I really don't think you'd make it in the military. Your too chaotic."

(Carn) "Your better off with the guild for mercenary work. The Republic prefers their own fighters. And getting through the border without an escort or visa........." shakes his head "You do not want to know the amount of red tape involved. It'd be easier to sneak past the border, then if they find out your there illegally. Well the standing rule is to shoot on sight." holds up his hand "I know it wouldn't do anything to you, but you would never convince them to hire you. These are a bunch of old hard-asses, whose sense of humor froze up decades ago."
