The name of a bird that has not quite left the nest yet and is still learning to fly and is Somthing new to the sky.

It has the added benefit of making it sound like your ship is party central.

"My ship's full of chicks!"

"A few chicks looking for experienced members to show them the ropes!"

I have put enough vehemence and disgust into the the phrase "powder monkey" that it might be better if I just called them noobs again. If we do go forward with "powder monkey" and "grease monkey" to describe new gunners and engineers respectively, what do we call new pilots? Especially those who mid-game-join ships which already have a pilot.

Somehow, this whole thing reminds me of Gunbound...the first ranks in that game have a chick icon.

No matter what class you are, if you're a level 1, you're a powder monkey. Heck, you can even extend that rating up to level 10 but that is situational. Seen some real trolls and powder monkey behavior all the way up to 10. Tonight it was a level 5 and 7. One complained at the munker for her mobby captain charging into the allied minefield. Like I could be there holding his hand as he flew a bad ship into mines that were there to protect him. The other started a crusade after powder monkeys were block listed for mid joining as gunners and being unresponsive + getting boats killed. He took offense to that and trolled the lobby for about an hour one way or another.

Ahh...Powder Monkeys...they come in all shapes, sizes, levels, and breed like viagra injected rabbits :D.

Since noobs/Powder monkeys/FNG's are not going to read this thread before they inflict their presence upon us, the slang we use is mostly for communicating between experienced players. To that end we should make the slang we use the most precise for explaining our situation to the other captains.

I propose different terms for players who do not follow orders, players who join as the wrong class, players who do both, and players that are just new but with the correct equipment and attitude. The effectiveness of a ship will vary depending on what sort of noob jumps on board.

Having a new player who listens will mean the ship will be less effective for a minute or two while they are given a brief run down of what  to do. Getting the wrong class means the ship can't repair damage at the same rate and should not take the brunt of the enemy's attack. Getting a player who doesn't listen means the ship might as well surrender unless the player can be convinced to leave.

It probably sounds condescending (though I don't mean it that way), but I sometimes call new players who listen and learn "ducklings", cuz I feel like a mother duck taking them under my wing.  No relation to [Duck]s.

I thought that the term "novice" exists for a reason, as essentially anyone who is new or recently purchased the game and is unfamiliar with the mechanics. Also since when was the term "noob" offensive to anyone. It sucks not being good at most games mainly because the selling point of a game is what happens when you do well, rather than what happens when you don't know what to do, but I haven't experienced anyone saying the bad part of not being good at a game, was people saying you are not good at a game.
