What Match List Filters Would You Add?
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:20:39 pm »
I am sure there are a lot of people out there like me who spend a lot of time surfing the Match List  If Muse could add any filter so you could search for the matches you wanted, what would you ask them to add?

Sometimes what I'm looking for is intangible, but other times I could be looking for matches that have things like:

players in my friends list

ships that need a gunner

ships with lumberjacks

blenderfish for my lochnagar achievement

squid for my rebuilding engines achievement

empty Captain Slots that aren't vs. Spud Nick :P

These are some awesome ideas; sounds like you're creating a new game, Guns of Icarus lobby search, 9/10 would play.

Lobbies of Icarus. We already play it.
For the match list, vaguely off your topic, but I would much prefer a refresh list button over more filter options. Currently I back out of the list and open it back up to refresh since it doesn't seem to update in real time.

Maybe a filter for pilot/crew levels, to try to avoid hopping into a newbie lobby and feeling bad about yourself.

Any one with a rank of 3+ in any class can't see newbie lobbies unless they have been given special permission by muse. However if there are a bunch of newbies in a regular lobby any one can join.

I would like to see flags on lobbies that have people on my friend's list, maybe even a flag for lobbies that have people on my blocked list. The average player level would be nice. The most important thing however is to know the location of RearAdmralZill at all times.

I have a hard enough time getting a game going while piloting.

friends filter.
CA people filter.
Experienced people filter. (people above level 6 or 7)
18+ filter. (cuz why not)
In-game voice chat filter. (to see which game room is using voice chat or not)

Wouldn't matchmaking make these filters moot anyway?

I'd say Friends list before clan tag since, well... anyone can put on the clan tag at all with no restrictions.

I made some similar suggestions here, so might as well repost in this thread.

Quote
1. Sort by average player level. Allows you to locate matches more likely suited to your skill level.

2. Red/Blue team average player level, as well as team player count. See stacked games at a glance. Sort by most/least evenly matched teams?

3. Highlight or sort by matches that contain friends. Maybe hovering pops up a list of which ones? Similar option for blocked players?

4. Ship types. Really feel like crewing a Galleon or Squid? Tired of Goldfish? Turn this option on to see icons of all ships in the matches, colored per team.

5. Confirmed microphones (would, of course, require a mic confirmation feature).

A lot of time is spent 'peeking' into matches to find much of the above information. The end goal of such features would be to facilitate much quicker match making with fewer two-second joinquits.

I would also add a feature to allow you to browse other matches while in a lobby.

I like most of Richard's suggestions, though I worry people would abuse the "average player level" to find new players to beat up on. Though I guess some people do that now as it is, so probably no harm in simply making the information more visible.
