It could already be done in my opinion. Place some target dummies at eithers team's spawn in say fjords or canyon (the 3 v 3 version) and you have yourself a search and destroy kind of game.

The VIP / Fleet admiral target should be spotted so it wouldn't be hide and seek. Just to make it more interesting.

For attacking team just killing the one target would count. Points and kills could be irrelevant. If timer ends and target is alive the defenders win.

3 rounds per map? then autoswap defender and attacker?

I always liked objective modes in shooters (like the ones in UT or RTCW - yep quite old old examples, but it has been a while since I've played shooters intensively ;P). I could see something similar beeing an interesting alternative to the existing game modes in GoI(especially in 3+v3+s). A variant that'll require less effort to implement might be some territory mode (similar to the one in RO2)

The whole time I'm reading this I keep thinking of onslaught mode from UT. Where each side has a main base, with a core that has hitpoints. In order to attack the core you have to control a node connected to the core. Most maps there was more than one way to connect a node, so tactics were key. It was almost like a small game of chess. But once you linked up to their base with nodes, you could damage their core, however this usually led your node undefended, and instead of them pushing out attacks from the base it was usually faster tor recapture the node. Something similar to this in 3v3 or 4v4 could be tons of fun.

Perhaps change it so that there is an electromagnetic shield surrounding a galleon, in order to attack the galleon you need to control the power lines leading to it(perhaps to short it out, or to cut power to it). Once you link the lines and the shield comes down, you can attack the docked galleon, first team to lose their experimental shieldedocked galleon loses.

I'm fairly certain that the world of GoI does not contain electromagnetic shields.

A FFA mode would be quite interesting, 4 ships, everyone is your enemy. Or a variation like the Kill the king mode from halo 4, in a FA game the one with the most currend points is marked for everyone to see.

Also I thought about a gametype where everyone is assigned one of 2 teams(red/blue) but you can only see which team you are in, but not which team the other crew members are in( save for captain), because the teams are scrabled togeher (red and blue team members on same ship without knowing)
The captain will be obvious, because his ship will resemble his team.
the rest is normal deathmatch, you have to kill the enemy ships, for your team to award points. the catch is that you probably have people on your ship working against you and there is frienfly fire. So on a red ship, blue team members can use the cannons to shoot the other red ship.
it would be interesting and chaotic :D

VIS (very important ship) would be a great one.
I also got some ideas.

Caravan:
Escort the gunless junker towards the destination point. enemies will try and kill it. when the galleon dies, the destination point will be spawned somewhere else. whenever the junker reaches a destination point, the defending team will gain 1 point. there will be 2 rounds, each round will be 5 or 7 minutes.

Free For All:
No explanation needed.

Team Deathmatch:
No Respawn.

ARS (All Random Ships):
All ships will be randomly generated, this includes randomly generated gun loadouts. players can still choose their own character class and skill.

Anglean Stand-off:
It's like a mexican standoff where there are in fact 3 teams containing 2 ships instead of 2 teams containing 3 ships.

Yeshan Knifefight: (I like the name)
All Squids, All Carronades.

Coppernaut: (variation of juggernaut but the ship that kills the coppernaut will not become the new coppernaut)
2 teams. 1 team containing 3 ships and 1 team containing 1 coppernaut ship. The Coppernaut ship will get double damage and double health as compensation.
The ship will only get the name Coppernaut and the health buff and damage buff. The coppernaut and other team will be spawning on different sides of the map. Whenever the Coppernaut dies, it will get the possibillity to respawn anywhere on the map, and the other team will recieve 1 point. the amaunt of points needed to win is 5.

Golden Cog:
2 teams will be fighting over the Golden Cog. The Golden Cog will spawn in the middle of the map and the first ship picking up this item will start recieving points for his or her team. The ship will keep scoring points until it gets killed. When the ship with the golden Cog dies, it will drop the Golden Cog.  Points to win depends on the map.

Titan Mode/Juggernaut

A new ship is in the game, but normaly you cannot play it. However, only in one game mode. This ship has 3 heavy guns on each side, 3 light guns on each side + 2 light guns on the back and front. Basicaly alot of guns. His Stats are alot. Like, its fast, VERY big, heavy,  very fast verticality. But very slow turning.  Its a very strong Diesel punk oriented ship, more than the steam punk oriented air ships that we have.

Anyway, the Hero ship has 7 crew(player or ai) and one Captain player.

While the other team is 3 ships of their choice and crew.

The Titan Ships objective is simply to get to each control point(2 of). While the 3 ships simply have to kill the titan ship once.


The titan ships engines cannot be disabled. everything else can, but not his engines.

-Attack and Defend. 

Attackers only worry about attacking and defenders only worry about defending. Attackers have to capture and hold an objective for a short amount of time in a certain order and only have set number of shared lives (or timelimit) to complete the objective. Respawn locations change depending on current objective and attackers gain more lives (and/or time) for completing objectives.  Red and blue switch roles after a round. After each side finish their turns as attacker and defender, whoever achieved the most objectives /or does it the fastest wins the game.



-Escort VIP/Cargo ship or Pirates vs Traders

A specifically designed VIP ship that players volunteer to crew for this game mode that needs to reach map exit to score. VIP ship should be slowish, only 3 light guns in total, facing fore, starboard and port, but reasonably armoured. VIP respawns back to the beginning if destroyed and the pirates get a point. Escorts and VIP gain 2 or more points if VIP successfully reaches goal in one piece. Map can either be linear for the clash at the chokepoint or it can be completely open with more than one exit to make things interesting. After time is up, the team with most points wins
