Feedback and Suggestions / Match replays
« on: April 16, 2013, 02:26:36 pm »
As carefully controlled as the game is, would it be possible to include an option to save a replay at the end of a match?  Aside from allowing for some sweet videos of matches like tournaments, it'd allow for people to look back and see what they did wrong a la Starcraft or allow for people to include replays when reporting players.  Done correctly the replays themselves shouldn't use much space on the user's hard drive at all, the hard part would just be implementation and making a replay viewer.

My typos are driving me insane.

Website and Forum Issues / See which posts got saluted
« on: April 02, 2013, 04:02:25 am »
It'd be great if I could actually see which posts are being saluted and by whom.  I wandered into Sunderland's repwhore thread and noticed that if I participated I wouldn't be able to notice when people are saluting my non-repwhore posts.  I know in VBulletin it gives you the option to enable this, I don't know if that's possible to do with whatever rep mod is being used here.

Feedback and Suggestions / Spectate through crewman's eyes
« on: March 27, 2013, 04:14:31 am »
I've been wanting to stream Guns of Icarus, but some of the most streamable stuff, the crew banter, is just hard to stream when you're a part of that crew.  You have no time to interact with and entertain your audience when you're trying to lead your own crew.  The game's got wonderful spectator support, but the matches are eerily quiet and calm.

What's wrong is that you aren't able to spectate on deck and listen to the crazy shouting and innuendos, or listen in on the captain-to-captain strategizing.  The utter chaos of the chatter is entertaining itself, so it's a missed opportunity to be unable to stream the personalties playing.

Feedback and Suggestions / Outline ship indicators on the map
« on: March 23, 2013, 07:03:00 pm »
It's an absolute bitch trying to find your own ship and your allies on the map, they'll blend into the background.  It's even harder if you're red/green colorblind like myself, red and brown look very similar and it can take me ages to figure out where I need to go to meet up with my allies.  A simple white border on those ship markers to make them stand out from the background would work wonders.

The Pit / Those bastards

They won't let me keep the Poop Deck Pricker.  I'd put a sad face there but the forum automatically parses it into those shitty smilies and noparse tags don't work like they do in Vbulletin.

The Docks / Novociv
« on: March 10, 2013, 03:21:22 am »
I actually hail from a social forum called Newciv, but the address is forums.novociv.org because this Newciv, despite looking like late nineties Internet ass, probably does some good things that'd make us feel guilty about snatching the domain name while they aren't looking.  We're not a "clan" so much as assorted people from around the world from various other online communities, with no particular focus.  It's a relaxed, casual atmosphere without the heavy-handed moderation a lot of us have fled from in other communities.  A lot of us play games together even though we don't sport any clan tags; some of us took interest in Guns of Icarus Online when I started handing out copies after the Steam sale.

If you're interested, we're a welcoming community.  Most boards are hidden because Jared is a paranoid fuck thinking the FBI is going to get him because he pirated the complete first season of Barney or some shit, no one posts in the public boards.  There might be an error that says you're banned too, Jared made a bunch of custom modifications for VBulletin and one of them apparently brings that message up for new accounts, just log out and back in.

Feedback and Suggestions / Blueprints are set up horribly
« on: March 09, 2013, 12:55:20 am »
You know those criss-crossing lines, the ones that turn at the same spot so you can't tell which component is linked to what node?

Knock that off.

It'd be better if those dashed lines would more clearly link component and node, just a direct line that only bends when necessary.  It'll still look steampunkish without being confusing and impractical.  I don't know how many times I've been on a Spire that has its top forward gun and starboard gun switched around because of this.

  • Quick chat commands - Whether voice or text, there needs to be some way for players without a mic or that don't speak the same language as the rest of the crew to communicate quickly and effectively.  There must be some way to point in a direction and quickly say "X degrees to starboard/port!"
  • Kicking - Could theoretically affect the tone of the game if it's easier to just kick someone rather than coach them into being a better crewmate, but there needs to be some way of dealing with people who want to do nothing but grief other than wait for moderator to come along.
  • Red X's - If you open one of the tabs while waiting in the lobby, say to check out your progress towards the next level or adjust your loadout, you need to hit the Back button in the bottom left corner.  Anyone that's ever used Windows is going to look in the upper right corner for that familiar red X.  Dogearing the page and revealing an X-shaped gear could work too, just something that gels better than the oddly placed back button.
  • Waiting room/match lobby tab - An alternative to hitting back, I often find myself wanting a tab up top to return to the waiting room immediately.
  • Individual player volume control - To adjust certain people's voices to your own comfort.
  • Joining/quickjoining a game as a crew - Having to wait for the captain to PM you is a pain in the ass and often results in someone taking a spot before everyoen can get in.  It'd be great if it was possible to search and join games as a crew (with the captain making the decisions, of course).
  • Inviting players to a game - "Click here to join Captain Dumbass's game!"
  • Visual indicator of the ammo loaded in a gun - So the engineer doesn't accidentally unload all the Hwachas the gunner spent forever loading with heavy rounds.
  • A quick rundown of nautical terms in the tutorial messages - Port has the same number of letters as left, starboard and right both have r's in them, et cetera.  It's more fun when everyone can say port and starboard and expect everyone to know exactly what they mean.
  • An on-screen notification of when the Captain has lost connection - So everyone knows that the captain doesn't have some brilliant plan that involves smashing full speed into a wall.
  • System messages show up in a different location than chat messages - I don't care if the other ship's crew is ragequitting, I want to know what the silly fuck the captain just told me to do.
  • A way to pass captain rank to another player - The original captain's left and the level 1 engineer is now the captain.  It should be easy for him to pass that on to whoever's taking over piloting so that they can communicate with the other captains.
  • Option to turn off swear filter, even if it's on by default - It's not like I haven't said worse myself.
  • Option to replace swearing with silly, made-up steampunk swears - I SWEAR TO H.G. Wells IF ONE OF YOU LAZY cogS DON'T REPAIR THE HULL RIGHT NOW I WILL IMPALE YOUR poop deckS ON THE PROW AND RAM YOU INTO THE NEAREST SHIP'S MOTHERcogING ENGINES
