Feedback and Suggestions / Re: saving ship-bound pilot presets

I like this idea, I often facepalm as I realise "Oh this is the ram build I need Moonshine." Or "Oh, I forgot to pack the luck lochnagar for the side mine..."

Exactly ... this happens to me too, especially concerning little details like switching ammo-types or engie-tools.
"Oh, I'm on a galleon with drogue chute and forgot to bring the mallet instead of shifting spanner" or "Damn, still lesmok instead of greased rounds to preload the banshee".

This deserves more attention. The more I think about it, the more I come to the point that blind picks would be a big improvement for the game.

Feedback and Suggestions / saving ship-bound pilot presets
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:15:43 pm »
Ahoy! Not sure if this has been discussed before ...

However, I've got a simple suggestion to make a captain's life in GoIO a bit more comfortable:

I love the feature that you're able to preset gunner- and engie-loadouts for each of your ship-loadouts and recommend them to your crew. But I don't like that you're not able to save a pilot-preset for each ship-loadout aswell. Over the time I tried out quite a lot of ship-loadouts and for almost each one I prefer different tools (including ammunition and engie-tools). This sums up in quite a lot of different pilot-loadouts I'm using regulary, way more than the 3 or 4 presets you can save. So I end up way too often using just one or two pilot-presets and switching everything around depending on the ship-loadout I've chosen while my crew just sits there with the presets I gave to them, twirling their thumbs.

So what I'd love to see as a feature in one of the upcoming patches is the possibility to save a fourth (pilot-)preset for each ship-loadout which you can pick by yourself. This would save a lot of time readjusting one of your standard-presets.

There's only one bad thing I see about that ... it could make last second counter-picks a bit more easy, since you'll be quicker in readjusting your own and your crew's loadouts. But that's only a minor disadvantage in my opinion. What do you think about the idea?

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Suggestion: Increasing Playerbase
« on: February 18, 2016, 01:05:47 pm »
It's been floated before, I think it's a bad idea. I can't think of one free to play game with a quality community, and one of the biggest draws of GoI is how great the community is. The players like it, and the devs do too.  Going F2P would destroy what good the game has, and add little of serious importance

agreed 100%

I like the idea and I would definetly give it a try ...

However I could imagine that implementing this option could decrease the variety and number of unconventional loadouts because players will more likely play 'save' and well-rehearsed loadouts.
But if it will become a thing, it should definitly be an option for the vet games (if they become more popular) and propably not for the regular matches ... there are many people around, balancing matches by giving themselves a handycap on purpose (swapping ships included) or giving some valuable advice to unexperienced players even on the enemy teams. Blind picks could make it more harder for the players willing to do the balancing stuff in stacked lobbys etc. by themselves. And this is a fantastic thing about this community which I dont wanna miss ...

I actually disagree and think it would increase ship variety. I know many people who want to take their favourite ships but each time they try they get hard countered and are forced to deal with it and fight harder or change ship to avoid being easily crushed

If the majority thinks like that, you might actually be right. If you don't have to worry that far more than 50% of the ships in this games will be more or less meta-builds, it could be a very entertaining game-mode which could actually improve the experience for the players ... as I said, I'd love to give it a try. And I'd also love to play more unconventional loadouts in those matches. Maybe my fears are baseless.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Get rid of vet game. Get rid of novice.
« on: February 14, 2016, 07:11:53 am »
Neither serve any purpose.

I disagree. At least partly.

When my friends and me started playing, we enjoyed fighting the novice games with one of the recommended (unlocked) ship-presets. It helped us getting a feeling for the mechanics without getting ripped apart by experienced players. Although we would have been happy to play on more than only two maps ... I have to mention that we started during a sale though.

Besides that I now still like the feature because it improves the quality of higher ranked matches (at least a bit) by filtering out all too inexperienced players. That's good for both, novices and advanced players. Teaming up and teaching other new players is more fun when they at least have played a couple of games and got familiar with the basic mechanics.

Relating to the vet games I have to say, that I rarely had the opportunity to play one unfortunately. But the few ones I played were quite fun (and also challenging). That might have been because of the huge number of friends playing there though.

In summary that means, the novice matches are a very useful yet slightly improvable (e.g. ships & presets, maps, levelcap) feature which I advocate 100%. I don't have an idea for a different system which gets around the limited player count problem. Regarding the vet games ... I'd really like to play some more before judging them.
