Hey, uh, I'm reworking my spreadsheet right now and I just realized that a lot of the DPS calculations are incorrect. It turns out that the GoI wiki has (or at least had) numbers different from what's in Evadne's Notebook, especially for shots/sec. I'm going to use Evadne's numbers for consistency (and hopefully accuracy).

I'm in the process of correcting things, and I should have a new spreadsheet out in about a week (that should also have some layout changes).

Yeah, that would explain why my spreadsheet said that hwachas had a dps of 13 versus armor

Doing so would also lower their health (since they are related if i remember correctly).

Repair time can be altered independently of gun health, which is what I did.

If I'm not misinterpreting awkm, changing the rebuild time won't have any effect on health.

Can we get a confirmation on light gun health? From awkm's post on AoE damage, it seems that it's 250 health, which would explain why there's a high incidence of guns being almost destroyed (but hanging on with a sliver of health) by artemis fire (240 damage is delivered from the AoE alone). Also explains why it's difficult to disable guns with the first missile unless you score a direct hit.

I think a lot of newer players would benefit from having this as a Steam guide. A lot of players probably won't know this guide exists on the forums, but if it's in the shift-tab overlay, maybe they'll see it and start to bring better ammos.

If you don't have the time to reformat it in the Steam guide format (or in Echoez' words, can't be arsed to), I'd be willing to do it for you (and of course give you coauthor credit) as you build this post on the forums.

Burst might be more useful on the carronade than I previously thought. While most ammo types on the carronade can one-clip a balloon, burst rounds can deal 1555 damage in one clip, which is enough to destroy the balloon even if an engineer whacks it with a mallet (Balloons have 1200 hp, a mallet repairs 250. 1550 total.). So if you can land every single pellet, you have a guaranteed one-clip regardless of pesky engies repairing the balloon.

That being said, you have to land every shot. In practice, it's probably better to take greased and kill the balloon before the engineer has a chance to whack it. Also, burst loses its utility if the balloon is already damaged because then the other ammos can one-clip it.

Just me looking at numbers, haven't tried it out yet. Any thoughts on this?

Guns of Icarus Online will be unlocked as the last bonus when 25,000 bundles have sold. So far, the bundle has sold some 21,000 in four days, and it ends in 10 days. So it's very likely that the bonus will be reached.

Buy the bundle for $1.00 to get all of the games and their Steam key (all but one game are on Steam), including GoI when the bonus is reached. If you've been looking to get your friends into GoI, this is probably the cheapest it's going to be for a while.

Again, GoI is not unlocked at the moment, but it is extremely likely that it will be in the next couple of days.

Sometimes I'm browsing the server browser and I see scrims or other competitive matches I want to watch. Sometimes if I'm lucky, the match is being casted and I can figure out who's casting by asking around on global or just checking all of the GoI Twitch streams I know of.

Other times, I'm not so lucky.

I'd love to see a way for more people to watch these games within the client. Maybe competitive matches could have more spectator slots than usual. Maybe there could be special lobbies that are dedicated to spectators. I don't know what the best implementation will be - I just know that I'd appreciate a way to watch ongoing scrims without having to rely on Twitch or Youtube.

Potential upsides:
  • Promote competitive play
  • Help players improve by watching good teams play
  • No more threads like this
Potential problems:
  • Lag and server-related issues - We all know that GoI is laggy for some of us. Maybe having a lot of people connected as spectators will make that worse.
  • Ghosting (cheating) - This can already happen with the livestreams, but if it ever becomes a problem, you could approach it like CS:GO does: have the spectators watch version that's delayed by a couple of minutes so by the time the spectators see something, that information is already useless to the people playing.

Thoughts?

I'm writing up an ammo damage chart for every gun of my own but it's not finished yet. One very useful thing to do is convert the damage in n seconds into damage per one second, or DPS for short. :)

Same document, different hosting. No balance changes in the last hotfix (or in 1.3.4 in general AFAIK), so it's still completely up to date.

Edit: Just remembered that I gave this spreadsheet to a friend in December so he could make it more aesthetic and less clunky. He hasn't gotten back to me on that. Oops.

There's a roundabout method you can use. I haven't tried it myself, but you *may* have to make a new skin (can be a copy-paste of the default Steam skin) and change the variable (as opposed to changing the default skin itself).

Has anyone tried out X-Rebirth, I know it's been out for a bit but how does it stack up to previous X games in it's current state?

I've been following X: Rebirth because I'm interested in it too. I haven't played the game, but to put it lightly, the community has been... displeased at X: Rebirth. Take a look at the community discussions. I know that some of the previous X games have had rough launches, but supposedly this is much worse than those. Egosoft has been releasing quite frequent patches, though, so maybe it'll be more playable soon.

I've been playing a lot of Civ V. I won with a cultural victory, but all the AI were being really mean to me and kept denouncing me so I've decided to steam roll them with my giant death robots. Take that, Attila and the Iroquois guy!   

Fact: Hiawatha (Iroquois guy) and Catherine of Russia will always be dicks.

Fact: Gandhi is the biggest dick of them all.
