Feedback and Suggestions / Hide full match option
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:54:31 pm »
It's a standard feature in other multiplayer games: have the option to hide matches that are full.  Emphasis on option, because I understand some people like to spectate.

Gameplay / Pros and Cons of a non-Pilot Captain?
« on: August 29, 2013, 03:58:06 pm »
I ask because I've seen a few higher level captains opt for the engineer or gunner class instead of pilot.  What's the deal?  Is it just to have a handicap and make the game more interesting?

The obvious cons I can think of:

1) The person at the helm will be flying an unfamiliar ship
2) The pilot can't use captain chat

Pros:

1) If you don't trust your crew you have the option to kick the pilot off the wheel or gun/fix things?

Gameplay / Countering the pyramidion gatling/mortar setup
« on: August 21, 2013, 11:36:41 am »
A pyramidion with a gatling/mortar setup can spell instant death if it sneaks up on you.  Let's discuss strategy on how to counter it!

My usual counter is a goldfish hellhound setup.  I try to get into the pyra's blindspot and then pop his balloon (hitting his armour whenever the balloon is down).  Hopefully the pyra will eventually break herself against the ground after a few good bounces.

It's my go-to method and as a bonus new players quickly get a hang of it.

BUT it's a very slow process if the engineers on the pyramidion have their game faces on.  I'd like to hear some faster strategies!

When the captain is in captain-voice chat please make their name appear in a different colour.  This will let the crew know that the captain isn't ignoring them.

I think this would add to the realism/authenticity of the game :)

Feedback and Suggestions / Minimap
« on: May 29, 2013, 12:47:37 pm »
It would be nice to have the option to enable a semi-transparent (round) minimap in the corner of the screen.

The mini-map would not be detailed (topography, buildings, etc), but would only show the relative positions of ships

The main map (pressing 'M') is great for traveling over long distances.  But it becomes impractical during fierce battles because: 1) blocks your vision! 2) you need all your fingers to maneuver during a battle!

The main purpose of the mini-map would be for short distance battles.  For example if your friend is fighting off an enemy ship behind a cloud you could glance at the mini-map and pop through cloud cover so that the enemy ship is sandwiched between you and your friend.  If an enemy is bearing down on you simply glance at the mini-map to know which friendly ship is closest and seek help.

I'm sure you guys could think of other scenarios  :)

My crew mates and I communicate a lot during a match, which is a good thing!  But sometimes when I speak with the other captain I can't hear them over the chatter of my crew.  It would be nice to have the option to mute your crew mates whenever you press 'C' to speak with the other captain.  Maybe a little icon should appear so everyone knows the captains are talking to each other and that they aren't ignoring their crew mates.

Gameplay / Defeating two galleons
« on: May 22, 2013, 11:08:47 am »
How do you defeat a 3 ship team with two galleons who cover each other's blind sides?

My teammates and I faced off against these two galleons who would stick close to each other but at a distance.  So that whenever we tried focusing fire on the bow or stern of one galleon it was impossible to drop or rise out of range of the other galleon's broadside.  Didn't matter if we tried hovering over them or sneaking under them, we were always in range of the other galleon's broadside.

What's the best approach when confronting two galleons who cover each other? (Assuming you cannot divide and conquer)
