Changed my mind on upgrading tar as I only play on 2-3 ships so my view is askew. Though the reasoning behind the particles is a temporary relief for ships that want to get out of the fight quick and painless rather than repositioning themselves(I.E. Launch tar cloud full reverse and drop altitude). I don't captain much but it seemed a bit reasonable considering I've been in those situations where all engines get blown out and then you get rammed to your doom. A good pilot though shouldn't ever be in these kinds of situations anyways and adding this in would take away the risk slightly on showing the enemy your rear on most ships.

All we need for this is more rewards for staying. I've played plenty of matches while getting stomped early and end up winning because most times I'm with beginners and it's simply a knowledge issue. So I explain how the ship operates and they go ham trying as best they can and it's great. I've also been in games where I've been stomped by a very well practiced enemy ship and although frustrating to try and counter the ships tactics and failing I always tell them good game and nice rig you guys did good. Then I usually end up adding them as friends and playing with them on a raincheck basis. I think humans can teach humans better than any computer can. I don't think as a community all of us have stepped it up to be idled upon. I don't think Muse is going to have all the answers.

The numbers wouldn't even make the game easier, a new player will eventually get used to how many shots it takes on a gun to down hull armor. Plus you are detracting from the explosion detail when a heap of numbers fly over it. This game has some really good immersion that makes you go overboard.  :P Don't even think about mentioning the health bars.

I would seriously like to see the Tar upgraded to having particles inside the cloud that have a chance of making projectiles explode unexpectedly before hitting your precious ship.

If that seems too much for some than I would also be keen with a separate ability that does the same (without the tar). It seems like a great tactical fix for some ships that have no rear guns. Though to make this balanced though you would have to shred all of your hull armor. Albeit I'd rather have no hull armor than no engines on a ship.

This would honestly cause too much confusion. The coordination required would most only be crewed by a pre-made group. But the biggest fundamental problem is potentially having 7 guns firing at one time, you would dominate the battlefield no question. I don't think any of us really understand it's potential until that was implemented into the game. Albeit though I foresee more problems than enjoyment, it doesn't even have to be about a balancing issue.
