Woah guys i didn't want for any disagreements to come out. I'm considering making a new topic for this so it's clean I can include a link to this topic for any who want to refer to it. I'm liking the idea of a google doc since if you guys point out mistakes such as my putting labyrinth (a king of the hill map) instead of the death match version Paritian Rumble. (i'm pretty sure i got the right one now lol the crumbled city) With a Google doc I can go in and make minor changes without the help of a mod.

Trust me I know you guys are very competitive and I respect the dedication you all can put into a single game. I'll admit I'm not that kind of gamer I just want to play so many other games I can't dedicate my time to one game to become the best of the best. HOWEVER my reason from bringing in the people I have is that all these players are strong gamers and some of them are competitive for other games. Some of them haven't even heard of this game. The Gentleman Gamer team all of them are very competitive on games such as league of legends and such and several of them that have started playing GOIO have become kinda addicted to the game lol. They could one day challenge you guys lol. That was my goal to bring in a bunch of new players for a casual game with the competitive side of it for those who like that side of gaming. Trust me I may not be an eSports gamer but I get very competitive and I don't like to loose. I won't go down without a fight! :D while playing with the Dev Bubbles I've seen what you pro players can do and as much as it scared me and surprised me I enjoyed the challenge. I know most others may not like the challenge but like I said that's why I was curious if anyone had any new to the clan players or some new clans would like to join and get some practice in.

As for the overtime I really liked that idea of a 2 minute clock type thing to enforce the players to move forward on the tie breaker. set the match as first to 5 points or the most points after a 2 minute stalemate wins. I like the concept it prevents camping and such.

I can look into Google forms for signups didn't think of that but that would make it easy... If i have any questions i'll ask you directly thanks for offering the help!

If I do decide to make a new clean topic i'll let you all know here before I ask a mod to close it.

Labyrinth? What? The game can take forever, especially if people take a while going back and forth camping at the start, much less turning points in the middle of the game. There's a reason lobbies empty out when Labs comes up.

Right camping but that could be a problem in any map can't it. I actually enjoy lab it places a lot of skill on the flying side of the crew needing to work with the pilot to reduce impacts. You can set up ambushes in the buildings as I myself did against bubbles.

I didnt think of camping at start... does any other tournament holder use any type of tactic to prevent this from happening?

3
Will the matches only be played on DM maps? Or all maps?

Normally I wouldn't recommend Dunes as the tie breaker, as it's one the largest maps and teams can spend a long time playing hide and seek as they snipe at each other. Although if it's newer teams, this probably won't be an issue.

Labyrinth is probably a good choice, and I believe most tournaments in the past use Duel at Dawn because of it's small size. Not a lot of ways to draw a match out.

Duel at dawn right I forgot about that map... I think you may be right in that one. Dune is fairly open and easy to just run from one another... hmm anyone else have any recommendations for tie breaker maps? Im very interested in this I chose dune and lab since dune is a very open map and lab is a very cluttered map. I figured those two will be the best way to offer a change in dynamic from whatever the actual map was which cause the low point score or tie. I was trying to look for a way to completely change the environment forcing the two teams to completely change tactics and possibly end the stalemate

As for the maps as it says in the for posts all maps will be randomly selected from the 2v2 death match battles. No capture matches will be played at least not in this event..

Holy moly, guys, turn down the dial on the elitism meter...

Haha thanks Imagine no worries though I knew i was posting in a place where a lot of high level players were going to see my small little noobie event. I was expecting these kind of posts and readied myself for them. :)

Well this event has been catching my attention since its been published, mainly for the wrong reasons, I'm sorry. Because of the lack of interest I didn't left a comment before but now , that you have something more defined, I fell like showing what my/our concerns are.
Looking at the current list of teams I notice that there's only 3/8 teams left to fill but there's no regulars, which left us concerned. Then after some research I found that almost every player on that list is not sign up into the game, yet.
Then, even if we would like to participate, there's also a competition going on at the moment, The Sky League, in which most of the teams in this game are participating, and its also going to be on the 19th.

But I liked the way you change the structure of the event with the tips of the community. I wish you the best of luck with this event ;)

Yes you are right I did not start this topic out right lol I've learned a lot.

As for the event yes i did get a lot of Noobies to start. Like I said I wanted this event to be more about the fun of the game (bring more new players in) and less about the winning and being the best. For you guys here I was hoping to offer more of just a laid back game for you guys to play or if you had new tactics you wanted to test or if you had new clan members that you wanted to get some practice in. This is a casual Tournament that's all. I know getting some of the top players could result in the stomping of the lower players however i just wanted to offer a more casual fun event for everyone here that's all.

As for sky league i thought it was over on April 26th? that's was why i extended the signups till the 30th after the sky league finishes. Did I somehow miss some other event???

Ah crud. I forgot to clarify again NO CASH. If the team chooses to get a prize it will be steam gift cards or a tangible item. International laws and even local laws are very difficult with cash. It's a prize pool that can get the team Steam gift cards or a tangible item or they can donate it to Child's Play under their name instead of PSC.

I know it seems unnecessary however I feel odd forcing the winners to donate. I'm pretty confident every team would however I would still like to allow the teams to decide themselves.

An updated post has been sent to a moderator and should be up eventually. I've skipped linking to the site as the only way to get the info and provided everything to be posted here directly. I have also pushed back the event and everything will be listed on the new post. Thank you everyone for your patience and information! I'm learning a lot.  :)

Ok so I don't see any way to edit this post... I'm going to contact a mod today to see if I can edit this topic or if I should create a new topic. Not sure which would be easier... Hold up for the next update. Thanks for all the info by the way. So I will have an update up shortly or a new topic will arise soon.

I'm certain all this criticsm is aimed at helping you make best tournament you can. We cartainly apreciate you effort, and interest.
Generaly events are scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance and set on Saturdays&Sundays (comunity is relatively evenly spread over the world it seems). As suggested you can ask Urz for advice on running competitive events, becouse he is the most experienced in this regard (he is running a tournament event that will be spread over a month or so and will start this weekend) - if you want to fun it on weekends, you'll have to coordinate with Urz, becouse he runs weekly mini events (Saturday Box Social, and The Sunday Rumble), so there won't bee scheduling conflicts and all people can join.

Considering the goal is to raie money for donation, and the fact I  a lot of the casual gaming public doesen't read the forums, you might want to ask Muse to hilight your event in the newsletter (come to think of it they haven made a newsletter in a while, it's a goot time to make a new one :P ).

Also I personaly I'd love to participate, but I don't get the final say in my clan.

Thank you very much and yes I know this criticism is all designed to help so I want to thank everyone else as well. With everything you guys are telling me im thinking it might be in my best interest to delay the event. Since I am out of state till sunday night I can not post replies or make the necessary adjustments to posts... also with the upcoming Hrs event I feel it might be best to postpone to allow for other teams and clans to have a chance to join. As of now the deadline is no longer valid I will try my best to edit the title of this topic or try to get a hold of a mod to assist me with this.

I again want to thank everyone for all the feedback and help. I really want to make a great event for guns of icarus. Great idea on the newsletter by the way I will mention it to matt the next time I email him.

Well, here is what I see. First, the first post has to be updated with the current information. That means all the information, organized in a clean and clear manner. No one is going to want to sign up to your website. I know you can't modify it now but a CA or MOD can help with that if you ask.

Your going to need the "big three" to really have a successful event. Those being the Merry Men, Ducks and Gentlemen. We are a small but robust community and we talk to each other about these sort of things. You need the big guys to get rolling, but you're not going to get them until we can see what we are getting into without having to jump through hoops.

Finally, in reference to your last post, there is no way we are hopping into a foreign ventrilo or sharing recordings of our communication and tactics to the public and enemy clans.

I do absolutely love more publicity and interest put into GOIO's e-sport. But we act and compete as professionals, and we expect this to be presented as such.

Hm you bring up a good point I never though of with the recording of voices or dropping I to chat... I didn't think of that. That is a good point I will considler removing that idea. Thank you for pointing that out. As for updating the original post I will try to get in touch with a mod when I finish typing up the updated details. Thanks for the information I was trying to think of how I was to update the original post to show the changes and the open link.

I really don't want to rain on your parade, but here goes.

-This is event is both short notice and not properly organized. Even signing up on your site and reading the details, there's still a lot of "maybes". (prizes, betting, etc). A lot of the information ared at the PS community, mostly giving away keys and such so they can participate.

-Who's participating? As far as I can tell, there's no roster of current signed up teams. Often seeing others signed up will encourage teams to sign up themselves.

-How are you getting attention for it? Right now there's just this forum post. Most of the GoIO community doesn't check the forums, so you're going to need to spend some time in game if you want to get more players interested. And you're going to have to convince them to sign up to your site to view the information and then email you their team information. That's actually asking quite a lot of the average gamer.

-When is this happening? Days, times, etc. People are going to have a hard time committing to a tournament/event when they don't know when it's happening. What if it conflicts with other events?

-How do you 'win' the tournament? Is it point based? You say that it's 2 matches, but that can lead to what we in the industry call 'A Tie' (each team wins a round). Which is often why most competitions do a 'best of 3', which just means someone needs to win twice. Is it single elimination? Double elimination? No elimination?

-The match details. Just a lot wrong here. The creator can set the server if they want to. Otherwise it will auto-set it to what works best for you. 15 minutes of active combat? Please head over to http://cesports.org/matches and watch some of those videos. Matches rarely ever end in 15 minutes. There isn't much need for calling out to their team and the enemy. Or waiting 5 minutes to make sure everyone loads. The game actually does a 30 second or so loading screen to make sure most everyone is ready to go immediately.

-"Drop into ships and listen to crew chat". This can't happen. There's no tools or resources for it. I would recommend spectating some matches to become familiar with how it works, and what you can and can't do. While you can see players on ships, it's difficult to get close ups of them. It's also impossible to listen in to the crew chat. More importantly, most veteran competitive teams use their own voice systems (skype, steam, teamspeak, mumble, etc). So if you ask nicely, this may allow you a way to listen in on them and record. Otherwise you just can't.

---

It's mostly a nice idea, and sounds fun, but you really should start smaller. You're trying to pull off a large scale event, and at this rate it's just not going to happen. You don't have the trust of the community, the organizational experience, or fundamental understanding of the game mechanics.

You need to get all of that and more very very soon if this is going to work.  ((and it also does seem very super scammy when you put that much emphasis on players giving you cash for the chance at virtual goods and the promise that you'll donate the money to a charity. Is there anything to guarantee this? You really want to build the trust before you start asking for money.))

You pose interesting points yet some of these have been answered all ready. However I will answer everything here to make it easy.

I'll be making a post shortly about who is already participating i've been working on confirming one last team. I will put it on both the public accessible forum on the site as well as here.

This event was fairly focused on the press start community since it is a community event. However I didn't want to leave out the GOIO forum or other players. I probably should clear up PSC goals as a site. PSC aims to grow gaming through a friendly community. We hope to grow the number of gamers by providing a welcoming environment for newcomers. This is why the event was first focused on the community giving keys to participants to help grow the guns of icarus online playership. Hope this explains that bit you mentioned

Currently awareness for the event is being spread multiple ways. We don't want to make many announcements too early since the event will not go up to watch till april 21st. Other ways im going to start bringing awareness is with the interview muse gave PSC I'll be using that to make posts around the internet branching out to contact other sites to feature the interview. Also the co-commentator of the event "The Gentleman Gamer" has already made posts about this on their website including a play with bubbles video. From there I also have podcasters Video Game Bang making an announcement about this event. And those are just some small already planned announcements. All participants who have a youtube channel will be announcing their participation in the event. There are more announcements in planning as well ill be posting in other gaming forums and communities. Next topic

I thought I mentioned the time frame already but in case I haven't yet there is no set days for the matches there will be three weeks in advance were we will schedule and record 4 matches. Starting next weekend i will start scheduling the matches working with the teams to allow some flexibility for others. This way it will help to prevent clashing with other events.

As for the matches this has been brought to my attention much earlier in this forum and a change is being made. I will be updating the details on the site soon the new detail is a single 40 minute match winner takes all. Ties will enter a sudden death first kill wins. as for the 5 minute load this was before i tested a little in spectator mode and found you to be correct. I've also thought about that more and have decided that you are correct and it isn't needed.  I also found out what you have clarified with tbe servers this originally was something someone else had brought up to me. This was our work around which has since changed. Thus the single match now.

As for drop in chat the gentleman gamer has a dedicated ventrilo server that we will REQUEST others use. It is nit required but by using it better footage and a better event can be done. Using this system and providing each crew with their own channel this will mimic the system used in the game however will allow us to drop in at any time. At the same time if a team or crew does not wish to use ventrilo most of these team chat programs have built in recording systems and they can still choose to record thier in game chat and using editing add that to tbe show. It can be done with participation from the teams.

I really hope this shows I've thought this out a lot. I know im still polishing a little but I am confident ill be ready in time. Ill admit reading these criticisms are tough but im hoping my determination and willingness to adjust will help to show you that I will no allow myself to fail muse. Keep the criticisms coming! :-)

As for the charity sketchy bit the entire event will also have the ability to donate directly to child's play as well for those who do not care for the raffle or do not trust PSC with handling the money. It has been shown that when you include the ability to win something or just provide involvement in something people are more interested and also more likely to donate more then normal. I have a question for you all. Have you ever took part in a real life charity event? A raffle event at a business or location that isn't run by the charity directly. Have you ever put cash into the donation bin at a store? Hagee you ever made a donation to a charity to a third party person or business. You do that without any proof of trust that they give every penny of your donation to the charity. The thing is I've told muse in emails what I plan to do. If I fail to give child's play the money I am legally liable under fraud. I need go earn the trust of people some way however the way you earn trust is by being given a little at first. There will be a direct link to the child's play donation and if no one does the ticket raffle bit and all donate directly I won't care in the least and nothing will get raffled that way. Ill find another way in that case. This is something im offering to viewers if the choose to participate otherwise they can donate directly. I hope this clears up any confusion. With the charity im trying things and offering the chance for people to give us trust so we can then earn it. If people choose to not trust us in that way yet then that is fine.

Ps I have started playing I the game mentioning the event recently to build awareness as well.

Any more feedback? This is a very hard learning process but im determined and willing to learn.

Perhaps you should consider hosting a smaller scale tournament first? You're aiming pretty high for a first pitch and you may be disappointed. I think the involvement of money in your pitch for this one is not encouraging for a startup organiser and you will need some practice to avoid technical issues, to get used to the quirks of the game and to establish yourself with the reputation necessary to draw any significant number of participating teams.

Additionally I'd suggest that you'd make all information about your tournament available on this forum. You'll have enough issues trying to organise a tournament with no prior reputation or experience without making potential participants jump through unnecessary additional hoops. It may also be worth looking into streaming via Twitch, whether you look into doing it yourself or contact established casters. A Twitch stream is a pretty standard expectation for any competitive event now.

Finally... well. Even if we ignore the issue with your inexperience: you're too ambitious. To put it simply, competitive GOIO rarely draws any significant attention beyond the teams participating. I'd be highly surprised if any number of people were willing to involve money in the competitive scene. Forget ad revenue. You will not get that many views, you will not become famous. If you do an excellent job, participants will probably be grateful and think more highly of you, and that's about it.

As for the profit sharing with charity, I too don't really see the need for tangible prizes or any kind of money split. Give it all to charity, or better, don't ask people to let you handle their money at all. I would much prefer to see you show a feature on the charity with each match to encourage people to donate directly; that way you aren't casting doubts on your own legitimacy by asking people to give you money, yet will still be supporting a good cause.
Geeze, being a little bit overly harsh there, aren't we? Something tells me this isn't being done for fame and profit frankly, and it's already been mentioned that cash won't actually be involved because of age restrictions and country regulations.

Yeah, GOIO doesn't draw much in terms of attention or viewership, but we can't just yell at everyone for being a newbie and tell them to go away, never going to grow that way. Yes, I'm sure we were all slightly suspicious upon the first post mentioning money and such, but it seems like this has been someone who has at least thought some of the plans through, has contacted and talked to Muse about it, written up a document for how they want the matches run, and how they plan on showing it of, not just some hodgepodge idea.

Thank your for your help. Yes I know im new and I know im a little inexperienced. At the same time I feel ambition is how new ideas are grown honestly this entire game was a crazy ambition from an amazing team. A team no publisher thought they were worth it but they tried anyway. Im not looking to run the same normal tournament everyone else is doing. I want to do something unique. Instead of a live twitch stream where you only get one angle I want a minor edited show similar to any non esports game is shown. I want to include the ability to drop into the ships crew chat and listen to them. Also your right fixing technical difficulties are an issue as well running this way I can prepare for the planned twitch final championship match.

To clarify im not looking to get famous or popular just build a foundation to grow from. I want to aim for the sky instead of hold myself back. Im hoping a couple teams are willing to give me a chance if not that will be alright i'll make due. I just think this game is amazing and I want to have a real fun event. I want to earn money for charity as well as ensure a prize is available IF the winning team wants one. A thanks for participating and winning. The other reason. For the ticket raffles via the psc website is also so I don't cross the line for both you tube and twitches give away policies. Example in order to give something away on twitch the winner has to be in the united states and over the age of 18 as I've been told.

Holding the raffles on the website and not mentioning any prizes or anything during any of the videos removes the connection from youtube and twitch and allows us to give away whatever prizes we want according to local and international laws instead of the very strict guidelines enforced by these companies due to others abusing the systems. I've thought that part through and thus why I tried this. All money earned via tickets will be listed on the site with a public donation to child's play to ensure im not doing anything odd or suspicious. This is also another way im trying to build reputation so this doesn't become a problem next time. I understand the way im doing things will not create an amazing amount of money but I gotta start somewhere.

As for ad revenue I do not expect much from ad revenue that is why im giving it all to child's play. This is my way of trying to show im not doing this for money im doing it because I enjoy this game and want to create an interesting series. I don't plan to fail but if I do at least I tried something and didn't just follow the crowd and create the same thing. Ihope some of you will give me a chance I already have 5 and a half full teams I just need two full teams and one more crew of 4. I even have some solo players who wish to join some partial teams as well. So I have an event how good it will go depends on the teams.

Thank you for reading i hope you'll excuse my noobism lol im just a passionate gamer who wants to create something unique for this unique game... im sorry if you think im doing something wrong. Ps I wrote this on my phone so please excuse any grammar problems lol.

I'm playing right now with a headset probably for the next hour or so if anyone wants to play with me and ask questions just join the PressStartCommunity Skirmish match i'll be happy to chat.

14
I hope I'm answering everyone's questions all right. I hope you'll consider taking part, I'd really like some great teams to help bring in some fans who will help to donate to childs play. Like I said once we get to a certain threshold I will increase the amount. Once we get to a second threshold then I will donate 100% of all future proceeds to childs play. It will all be made public at the end of the event with a public donation to Childs Play including ad revenue from the youtube videos and the proceeds from the raffle tickets. if anyone has any questions let me know. Also i'm running some optional skirmishes randomly to test stuff out and practice flying around in spectator mode. If anyone is on the game and finds a PSC match feel free to join us we could use the practice. This way you can ask me questions directly. I'm about to get on the game in the next couple of minutes

15
Our previous time-limit rules in competitive were around 45 minutes and either led to a conclusion with who won or to a sudden death round.

Thank you I'm curious how do you deal with latency have you ever had any issues with people thinking the latency would cause an advantage? That was the reason for what i was doing two matches with each one being away and home. I could possibly hold a 40 minute match and have each youtube show be 20 minutes with the cliff hanger for the first recording. Thank you, this is the other reason for posting here. Matt told me to post on here once I had an official posting to get help on running the event.
