Yeah, no.
This sounds like a bad idea.
The whole idea is that it's the captain's ship.
Therefore the captain picks the craft and weaponry and the design.
As others have mentioned, you run the risk of people joining & interfering with an aesthetic.
(Or deliberately picking things that have large potential to clash in order to irritate others.)
Which seems like a recipe for disruption.
Also, technically you could captain a ship without being a pilot and have someone else take over flying.
Might be a bit more awkward to arrange but seems easily done with a bit of communication or a willing friend.
