Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Request: Coloured Reticules
« on: November 08, 2013, 10:39:16 am »
I think this is an issue that's fairly annoying and could use some tweaking. It also bothers me with names of crewmates and ships which can be obscured that way, as well as components being damaged, but to a lesser degree. I'd like an option to tweak the colors, everything at once or seperate doesn't matter to me, just a color option would be great.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Chemical Spray achievements
« on: November 01, 2013, 07:06:51 am »
It's a good suggestion, extinguishing fires is horrible with ChemSpray, not to menion you'll be pissing off the other Engineer in case he has the Extinguisher. I think a component being hit by fire while being dowsed in ChemSpray (so it prevents the fire) should count towards an achievement rather than extinguishing an actual fire with it.

Most of the time people will bring Extinguisher because it's easy and straightforward, they don't know how to handle ChemSpray yet. Last time while fighting a Mobula with 5 Flare Guns (don't ask) the proper way for me to handle it as Engie on a Pyra was to sit on the hull, constantly repairing bit by bit with Spanner and extinguish immediately with Extinguisher.
The other Engie on the balloon didn't understand the way his ChemSpray worked, he didn't spray it in advance at all, nor did he re-spray to keep it cool at all times.

tl;dr Teaching people how to effectively use ChemSpray through achievements could be great.

The text formatting looks amazing. I had little trouble reading it before, but the way you've outlined it is the modern standard right there.

Not too sure about the bars though, I think it'd be simpler to just keep the numbers for clarity's sake.

Auto-save sounds even better to me.
(Don't click anywhere, don't get annoying pop-up, every change just sticks.)

Sounds solid, really.
I can imagine making less mistakes with auto-save on and selecting the wrong pieces before the match starts as opposed to forgetting to click Customisation Complete and just clicking back.
Just enabling auto-saving and removing the Customisation Complete button since it's automatic now would be nice.

I mean, if you want to use the "trolls will always troll" argument, we might as well remove the feature that lets captains kick other people off the helm.

That's definitely a valid point. I guess I'd be okay with Gunners having gun priority, but I don't like the idea of setting priority on a per-player basis.

Indeed, the only thing that might pose a problem with gun priority is if a Gunner would feel like being a shmuck and keeps throwing you off the gun. I however do think it would be the lesser of two evils: I'd rather take the chances of having a Gunner being overly dominant on guns and forcing me to repair 24/7 than having an Engineer obstructing the Gunner resulting in nothing happening at all.

I think your chances of winning would increase in case of an Engineer who's being a shmuck/doesn't know what to do if the priority is set in place. Especially since Engineers outnumber Gunners 2 to 1 on your standard crew.

This goes both ways though. That gunner with his new powers could boot you off a gun and deny you a kill, while just sitting there looking around.

True, true, that might get very annoying as well. Though I would prefer Gunner would take over if he has nothing to do, actually. The only thing that would make it annoying is the fact you have destroy X log entries as Engie that would be even harder to complete because of that.

Or at very least, give captains priority on guns so if they have a 'stubborn' engie, they can boot them off the gun themselves and then give the gunner an opportunity to grab it.

Don't Captains (I mean the person in the Captain slot, not a Pilot class) already have that ability? It can be used that way, but it's an awful case if the Captain has to stop doing his job and wander away from the helm for God knows how long, just because an incompetent Engie joined your crew.

Kinda like how a Captain can eject anyone flying on the helm. Can't see how this would be a problem other than trolls trolling. I also however see no real need for it. If your crew has good communication, tell the engie that you're there now so he can go repair, if he doesnt respond and stays on the gun, then you have a problem player.

That's the problem that sparked the need for this: sometimes, you have people people that just don't know how to play the game/play their part and (and I quote) "just want to have fun". I'd rather have him loafing around completely instead of taking up a gun I could be shooting at the very moment with a better ammo than stock...

I cannot tell you how many times I would be aboard a ship as Gunner with 2 Engies and at least one of them would be hogging a weapon while the hull is dying right behind him while the other Engie is still fixing on the other side of the ship. Wouldn't it be a good choice for Gunners being able to take over guns immediately as if a bot was manning the gun?

Sorry if this had been brought up before.

EDIT: I just now remembered the second point I wanted to bring up: it could be very handy if you could choose the color of in-game texts (name + indication of a spotted ship, names of crew members, icons of damaged ship parts...) to a more distinct color. Sometimes I have trouble seeing these in levels with lots of white smoke and grey air.
