World / Re: Making the infantry of Arashi
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:01:00 pm »
@Ofiach

I think that you're missing the main point here on the topic of fireteams and that is: Words mean things. "Fireteam" refers to a very specific organization and tactic. Just because a squad splits in two doesn't make them two fireteams. Just because one guy in a group of four has a SAW doesn't make them a fireteam.

It's important to note that "SAW" doesn't just refer to the M249.

I don't think that anyone is saying that, after decades of combat, these people haven't figured out how to mobilize as fireteams. They certainly didn't start out in them, though, and your examples are irrelevant to that discussion.

As for the actual topic of the thread, I've got a few ideas that I want to formulate better before I post them. Perhaps after work.

When I started teaching new players how to play, I realized I needed something to give me an air of authority. So I invested in the biggest hat and the snazziest outfit I could find. Even though it is not always true I feel people are more willing to bend to the authority of the man with the biggest hat.
Besides people are more likely to judge a player by their level than their outfit. I buy the outfits to support Muse and hopefully ensure that there will be more new maps, guns, and ships. When I see a player in a non standard outfit I think "There goes someone who loves this game as much as I do and is willing to pay a little extra to ensure the devs can make rent."

I support both of these statements although my reasoning for buying an outfit was the latter. I was also really interested in making my outfit IRL. What could possibly make me more deserving of it in-game?

The Lounge / Re: That Moment When...

That moment when you start your piloting career just because you really want the match to start already.

That moment when you run a carronade/double flare squid and your pick-up crew gives you commendations.

Half of the Raft is definitely in for this:

Pilot: Machiavelliest
Gunner: Charon
Main Engineer: Shukketsushi
Gungineer: Demoxis.

I actually dreamed about GOI.  I never dream, I sleep so deeply that rem sleep is never remembered, but for some reason my brain deemed it necessary that I remember the grand adventures of some tomatoe plant that traveled from one ship to the next, providing many crews with tasty, tasty tomatoes.  It was like the giving tree, tomatoe style, and I dreamt it.

Da hell?

Just for you:

Do you have to go on an arduous six seven day hike to get this mythical microphone?

Love the color and lightning of that picture. Reminds me a bit of Mos Eisley

I second this.

Great work and thanks for the wallpaper!

"Get off the Fucking Gun"
Get on the main gun while Charon is spotting next to it; survive the impending wrath.

"This is Your Captain Speaking"
Understand five orders laden with military jargon from Machiavelliest without the aid of his usual crew.

"Merlot and Moonshine"
Play 10 matches with Karrin without the engines burning out once.

"Japanophile"
Catch 15 of Hizumi's J-pop/anime references.

The Pit / Re: Favorite Food and Drink

I usually drink the blood of my fallen enemies tea.

But what kind of tea?

Food: I don't really snack while playing Guns, I just take a break for meals or eat them during lobby time.
Drink: Depends on the time of day. Cogs-time: Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. Most of the rest of the time (on weekends)... Vodka mix or Orion Southern Star.

Gameplay / Re: Engineer Strategy Dicussion

I don't use chem spray, ever. I used it for the low level achievements, back when it was more or less useless. I've not given it a chance since they upgraded its effects. I don't use it for much the same reason that I don't bother with a buff kit, I count on being the primary engineer and need to be able to get the job done. Spraying multiple times to put a fire out? Aint nobody got time for that. I'm usually cycling through components so frequently that I'll be around to put it out if it reignites.

There have definitely been some matches where the fire is just too much and I can't keep the ship in top shape because everything is on fire but they're few and far between.

Every now and again I'll think, "Maybe if they've got flamers this match, I'll give the chem spray a try..." but then they usually don't or I find another reason not to bother. I suppose that I'm set in my ways.

Bodice is finally finished; added straps, secured the back, and added cogs. The arm warmers are presenting a bit more trouble than expected. Hopefully I'll have at least one done in the next week or so.

It doesn't fit my dress form very well.

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: "Expert" HUD-less mode
« on: April 14, 2013, 08:50:54 am »
I think that this is a pretty fun idea. It might be more like a "Nightmare mode" for engineers, trying to gauge the status of the component when it goes from rebuild to repair. I'd probably just learn to count the swings.
