The Saturday Chaos Skirmish event may be loved by some for flinging lots of people together in an even more social setting while bringing in interesting rule-sets, but it is brought down into a love/hate relationship and has many new people peel out of the lobby after a short while due to the tedium of manually shuffling crew slots.
This not only takes up many people's time, but cuts down on how social that time can be while someone is trying to call out the crew sets and explain to new people where to move, which requires the chat to be relatively quiet, and is of course delayed by an inevitable player needing a toilet break.
Consequently,
I suggest adding a custom lobby feature that will randomly shuffle all players present after each round instead of merely swapping a ship or two.
This way, more lobby time can be spent on crews actually talking to each other, adapting to custom rule-sets and planning their team's strategy, and perhaps eventually getting more games into the evening.
This might not get as much use outside of community events, but who knows, if the option is there, some players may like to create that kind of lobby where they must constantly adapt instead of consistently stomping with their friends on the same ship.
I for one would give that a try any day. It could help nudge more people out of their comfort zones into roles that they don't try enough, and expose them to tactics that they hadn't considered before. Also it wouldn't force us to stay up late for it
