The Next Tournament: A Suggestion
« on: April 14, 2013, 10:00:00 am »
Can i suggest a change in the classic format for the next tournament? perhaps a 3v3 or 4v4 - maybe even  some capture the point mixed in?

Pros:

New maps, different format, inter-clan co-operation and maybe even get some non cogs team peeps into the competitive play.

Cons: (?)

What do we all think?

Con: It would require a lot more people to sign up.

Yes, we have difficulty getting four crews together, let alone 8 or 6

While id like to see 3v3 ranked matches, the manpower problem would be pretty significant for some groups. Especially newcomers.

But if future tournaments stay with 2 v 2, they wont be able to distinguish themselves as different from the Cogs, which is already every week. It also opens up a vast new meta, 3 v 3 deathmatch will probably make squids and spires way more valid, and that's not even considering capture points.

The numbers for a 3v3 will be difficult I agree but I'm not sure its impossible, its worth a look/try.

No offense, but its easy for Ducks to say it'll be manageable to get a 3v3 team up as you guys have like 4 Cog teams already. I know i could get another boat full for a 3v3 as well, but the newcomers aren't going to be so lucky.

If we did do 3v3, I think it should be a different section/class of Cogs. Kind of like Lightweight/Heavyweight? Then it still lets them in without putting the additional strain of requiring another boat full if they cant make it happen.

That doesn't change the more important question though, how would a 2 v 2 tournament define itself as different than the cogs?

Well since the Cogs now ends after week 8, it will be a potential way to seed the next season. Plus, as far as I could tell, opponents were randomly selected in the Fjords Tournament, so instead of the rigid Cog structure where you can have the same teams fighting one another, you get new matches and potential new rivalries.

Then a separate 3v3 tournament could do the same thing, seed the new 3v3 class of Cogs.

well corvus consist of 2 crews, but we could in theory team up with a 3rd party crew if needed.

I'd like to see a crazy king tourney one day, even if its just 4 teams.

I cant see why it has to have any bearing on the cogs at all, let this be something different.

Hell if we were THAT stretched for numbers we could make each cog team adopt a pub as their third ship as a condition of entry.

I would be captain of that pub ship, every time lol.  We could call it the LTD factor.

Well apart from a tournament that is set up by Swallow/Qwerty/ect, I can see a player made scrimmage getting traction in the off-season of Cogs anyway.

The Bully Boys would definitely be up for something like this. A small, informal tourney could be set up without too much hassle that could grow into something bigger and more concrete later.

I do like the thought of some sort of 3v3 league of the Cogs as well. Would give more players a chance to get in on some competitive action each week.

I don't like participating in tournies, but I like to watch the replays. I didn't find the sniper wars on the Fjords too interesting and hope the next tourney is either a Point Capture or Crazy King style game. These games are more dramatic and less conservative which should lead to a better viewing experience.
