Kraken Harpoon Gun
« on: April 11, 2015, 05:26:33 pm »
Kraken heavy harpoon gun. Fires five harpoons, either one at a time, or all at once with a wide spread. Massive internal winch pulls with tremendous force. The forward cone is connected directly to the winch motor, and spins as the harpoons are being winched back. If an enemy ship hits the cone while it is spinning, it does substantial impact damage. Winch is activated with secondary mouse button instead of zoom, allowing for rams without firing the harpoons.

"Once the jaws the Kraken close about your ship... there is little to do but make peace with your self."

No, I did not model the seat or put a character in. Too many fiddly bits.

More importantly, why not?

Okay. Why?

Because light harpoon is already useless? Also, Devs are implying that no new guns or maps will be made untill Co-Op release (which is a lie, because Minotaur), so it's rather not probable for them to work in this direction.

Some close ups of the sloppy textures. Yes, I used the image of a steampunk clock as the texture.

Also, no wants to hear you talk, Dis. Go away.

Well, I'll take it as a lack of argument then.

Is this in the workshop? Looks fantastic too me. Kudos

Though I am sorta starting to question the worth of any harpoon, heavy or otherwise, that just reels stuff in. I'd like to see it be more like a giant taser that does a small amount of consistent damage over time through each harpoon to the component that its connected to like with some sort of electrical charge.

Heavy Harpoon+Ram! I love this idea, like the Dragonator from Monster Hunter. Will probably screw up balance but who cares.

I love the design and concept!

BUT

Impact damage is a two lane's street: i hurt you while I hurt myself in equal measure. How could it be implemented on the Kraken? Maybe the rotating trasher damages the ship's armor/permahull while activated but how to deal with lag and trolls?

ALSO

A weapon needs to be easy to use but hard to master (easy to understand, harpoon aiming and timing of trasher activation very hard to master) but how would an ammo type affect the Kraken? Would it modify the harpoons or the trasher's duration/effect? Because other than the harpoons, the rotating tip needs a duration, reload time and damage stats.

The 'trasher' as you call it (maybe grinder would be better), has no reload, can be used all the time, and adds a set amount of impact damage upon coming within a few meters range of an enemy. Think of it like a gatling gun with a 3 meter range. Pull the secondary trigger and it keeps going. However, since is it also the winch, you can't fire the harpoons while the grinder is on. The grinder is automatically on after harpoons are fired since it reels them back in.

Ramming a ship would cause the set amount of grinder damage (if it is on) plus the current inertial damage. Moonshining with a Goldfish into a harpooned enemy  would cause some pretty serious damage. It is a pretty high-risk gun, though. Long to mid-range damage and ability is minimal.

Just lightly bumping a ship would cause just the grinder damage as long as it is activated.

Since the grinder is secondary, all ammos would effect the harpoons. In think it would just be a single shot weapon with five harpoons at the same time.
