There are some advantages to a rotary gun especially when you can't have liquid coolant.  Infantry machine guns have to exchange barrels every hundred rounds or so to stop the gun warping from heat.

Interestingly, most fighter jets use multi barreled Vulcan cannons in order to have faster rate of fire than a single-barreled gun.
