Add/Subtract Ships from Matches Option
« on: August 16, 2014, 08:02:58 pm »
Ever been in a full 2v2 lobby with a full spectate ship and thought, "Man, we could totally fill a 3v3 right now?"

Ever been in a 3v3 or 4v4 lobby that had half emptied out and thought, "I'd love to have all these same people in a 2v2?"

I mean, I know you can always just make a new lobby, and hope that people follow you over, but it would be cool if there were an option for the participants to vote to add or subtract a pair of ships to the existing lobby.

That would certainly be a bit of a nifty feature, personally behind this. Though certain measures would have to be taken, for instance if you have a 3v3 and a few ships empty but you still have a few people scattered about all 6 ships, when you switch over to 2v2 we'd have to make sure that doing so doesn't kick them from the lobby.

Yeah, I was thinking you'd only be able to delete a pair if there were actually an entirely empty ship on each team.

What an excellent idea!!
The ability to add or subtract pairs of ships from an existing lobby will prevent a lot of  empty lobbies just laying about because everyone left them to play a smaller (or larger) lobby
Just think of the gaming possibilities for "mini-tournaments"...you start out with a 4v4 and at the end of the match each team loses a ship (lowest scoring, or most killed or voted off) then the lobby becomes a 3v3...then a 2v2 until there is only one!

I think we should let the MUSE devs know that this is something we really want!!

That would change the map to, i think?  Because doing a raid on the refinery on 2v2 is quite boring I think ;-)

Hmmm, maybe it would then reset the map choice and there'd be a new vote.

What if the 2v2 map is full, even the spectator's slots, everybody votes the 3v3 map but after that people leave because of the differend map's change. Then you still lose people and  the game will not launch. (you will still need extra people because of the 8 extra slots, + extra lobby waiting time)

I think it's quite hard and challanging to make a system that could support this.

What about this idea?
Make 2 games that finish around the same time merge with eachother? (like 2 european games that finished their game merging to a 4v4? Or let the people vote to merge those 2 games?)

Well, after any match there's a chance people will leave after the new map vote.  If it switches to 3v3 and tons of people leave after the map is selected, the participants could choose to either wait for it to fill up, or vote to switch it back to a 2v2.  I don't foresee that as being as big of a problem as the "snowball effect" that already often occurs after a match in which one person leaves and then suddenly half the lobby leaves too, which is what prompted me to think of the removing ships option.
