Ship idea: Ikazuchi
« on: May 30, 2014, 08:16:01 pm »
Ikazuchi

Stats:

(stats are just ideas to give idea of the ship personality)

Armor: 900

Health: 900

Balloon health: 1200

max speed: 33.5 m/s

max turn speed: 5.0 deg/s

Mass: 350.000 kg

Acceleration: 1 m/s²

Weapons:
6 Light guns. 3 on port and starboard.

Engines: Heavy engine is behind the helm on underdeck.
Underdeck has 2 light engines.

Other information

Hull is on underdeck and is midle of the light/turning engines.
Balloon component is on upper deck on front of the ship.
Ship is not big but its long so it can be in trouble in small maps.
(ship design is influensed by old asian ships)

Tactics

Ramming with this ship is good idea since if you ram and manage to turn your ship, you can pulver ships in no time.
Ship is weak to front and back attacks since those sides dont have guns. Also balloon is exposed and weak to lumberjacks and shotguns.
Capten can easily repear the heavy engine since its close to helm. Engineers and gunners should stay on guns since they protect broadsides.

Advantages

+durable
+fast and heavy
+great for ramming
+deadly broadsides

Disadvantages

-slow turning
-blind sides infront and behind
-exposed balloon

(Ship name is idea so it can be changed. [also Ikazuchi mean thunder and japanese Fubuki-class destroyer])

This versus galleon, who would win?

This, 3 parallel light guns is powerful.

I think this ship would end up being used as a weapons platform, like a combo Galleon/Mobula, highly suited to (merc) sniping rather than brawling. Ramming or any head on charge would be a really bad idea with this ship because you'd be unable to get gun arcs as you approached. Generally ships which rely on sideguns are weak at brawling because they are unable to pursue or charge effectively, meaning they can really only brawl defensively.

Galleon would blow up every gun from this ship if it has manticore, if not then this would win... OR WOULD IT?

And i dont see mercs being used much anymore but you have a point. But the ship lengh makes mercs less usefull in this ship since they cant aim the same target (they would hit target like galleon but smaller than that... they would miss the shot)
As for ramming: you can adjust your guns after ramming, making enemy spin out of controll and making good turn to port or starbord will make enemy pepperoni in seconds. Yes defensive brawling is the only good way in this kind of ship... but that isnt necessary a bad thing, junker can perform well with defensive brawling.

if you did not read my original idea for a ship like this then its located here https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,4161.0.html

I specifically stated having the side guns bearing 80, 90, 100, and 260, 270, and 280 ( if you don't understand bearing its 360 degrees just like a compass but referencing the front and sides of the ship rather than North south east and west so 80 degrees is the right side and facing 10 degrees forward) so that this ship could not have 3 mercs on one side to obliterate any and all ships. Granted it can have a merc and 2 artemis for long range but so can a mobula and I don't see them ruling the skys.

Yes i did read that, but not only that but the lengh of the ship will mess up the 3 merc combo since they cant aim the same target (since mercs angles are so tiny)

So basically it's an offspring of Galleon and Goldfish. Interesting idea, though I would rather want it to be regular (goldishy) size and have two light weapon slots each side.

Yeah and one in front. And those weapons are on two different decks. I literally thought of smaller version of galleon with a pair of guns each side (on one deck).
