Sea battles like GoIO?
« on: January 31, 2014, 07:25:20 am »
Hello people!

I've made some googling, but haven't found anything similar to what I try to find.
I've tried to think about what would it be if Guns of Icarus would take action in water? The airships will lose its AIR part. I'd like to see something like 15-16 centuries sea battles. Especially when England and Spain and France were contesting for the right to be a sea holder. There were small and huge ships (like Galleon) it will be very exciting to have these battles in GoIO-style, but with a larger crew (8? 10?), of course depending on a size of a ship.

If I haven't found anything like this and you know such a game - please tell me what this game is.
P.S. I'm not interested in modern seabattles and metal ships. Only oldschool wooden ones.

try using chute vent on water hazard.

this is just a list of games where you get ship battles.

Assassins creed black flag.
World of Warships.
Pirates of the Carribean online. (feels a bit like goio were you fight other ships and AI)
pirates of the burning sea. (this one looks promising.)

The game East India Company is also about this period, although not all feedbacks are positive about it, and I'm not sure how much it's involved in actualy battles, seems more like a trading game. :) Anyway, may wanna try it, if you like that period of history, and want to experience something similar. :)

Now we have to put anti-air turrets on the scene to actually hit those things, because our torpedos don't work anymore.

World of Warships - That is like WoT and WoWp, you play as a full machine yourself. I meant the specialities like in GoIO, and several ppl using the same ship. Also, it's about modern metal ships.
Pirates of the Carribean and pirates of the burning sea - these are just another MMORPG like World of Warcraft. Also these are 3rd person view...

Actually I really hope the game I wish for looks exactly like GoIO, but on the water and with larger crew... And maybe in a real history universe, not steampunk. As I saw from the answers, this game does not exist, yet I think it would have a GREAT potential!

You remember the Red Orchestra where several ppl use a tank? Driver, shooter, machinegunner, etc. the same can be accomplished on ships, and not in RPG style like Pirates of the Carribean, but the same GoIO style - fast 15-min fights.

Muse, it's your chance to use this niche while no-one made it (as I see it).

Thanks.

I don't think my PC is strong enough to manage a 5v5. Are there custom lobby settings?

I agree, I would buy a game like that if it was similar to GoI in looks and mechanics and whatnot, and who else would make it like that xD *prepares money to throw at PC screen*

There may be some Halflife and Mount and Blade Mods that try and reproduce what you are asking for but those engines were not designed to do physics needed for this type of game play. GOIO occupies a pretty unique space. I would say GOI is a genera onto its own. There was a game called Air Buccaneers that is arguable in the same genera however it did not do too well.

Really though, in how many games would you have a team where each person plays a role so flat out different and interdependent on the others that one person out of alignment can get you killed even against inexperienced players? And that doesn't even take into account the other ships on your team.
I don't know of another game where individual play skill is so heavily dominated by teamwork and accountability.

In MOBA games, a bad player can kill a team, but an equally excellent player can save it anyway. GoIO doesn't really have that. It makes for a really interesting arena of play.

If I recall correctly there has been a battlefield 1942 mod for ship battles only. On the biggest ship there can be three on guns and one steering the ship. We had some hilarious fights back then.

the game is for free on origin.
