sadly crewing as pilot is the best way to get some of the achievements.
That's some nonsense, and I hate when people do that. Then you get "high" level pilots who have no idea what they are doing.
To the OP's issue, I'm not sure if that is a beginner match thing, or if your ranks are wrong, then its usually a communication thing. Some people respond to team chat much better than voice chat. I still like the idea of locked crew roles so people can't join unless they accept the terms of that slot, but that's me.
