Skirmish Content Kickstarter ?
« on: March 16, 2016, 01:22:35 pm »
Guys, many of us state clearly that Skirmish desperately needs new content, most desired being probably maps (at least that's my opinion and impression). The list of desired additional content is long and it seems that we won't get it any soon. Some people actually claim that they would be willing to pay for additional content, because they know Muse's situation. So why not let them?

I will send this to Muse, so the question is here: would you personally pay 1-5$ for a kickstarter for skirmish content? What content would you expect? Is such kickstarter a good idea to you?

Edit: For a promise of new maps I would chip in a buck or two. Also I'm saying kickstarter but devs could have reasons to gather money in different way, for instance through in-game shop. Shop sale where all benefits go towards this goal surely sound nice.

I'd give the price of a new game if we got some new content for sure

Howard wrote that they are working on some [content]. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. But I think we should keep the thread going to give Muse an idea what they can expect in case they would want to actually use this idea.

I was interested in coop, until I played it for a bit. Now I want all that effort put into Skirmish instead. It is the real main game, and why people keep playing. PvE just does not suit how the game plays. It wears out fast. I dropped $10 on the coop expansion. I would pay at least double if Skirmish had an update as large as what is currently in Alliance.

What would I want? Bring AI ships and modes into Skirmish. Fight with AI ships on your side against other players doing the same thing. Improve AI so you don't feel handicapped (as much) when you have one. Hell, you could still call it 'Alliance' since you are allied with NPC factions. It would really be Skirmish+.

What else?

New skins and maybe complete models to choose from for all the ships (and new ships). Don't really care about themes, but if I could have a bleached white Galleon with bone railings...

Definitely new maps. More ammo types that do awesome things.

I don't want them to start a new kick starter until they have delivered Alliance in a non Beta format. Having played the beta I am not particularly impressed. Yet it would harm Muse's reputation to beg for money before delivering on its last promise.

I don't think Alliance will live up to the grand vision Muse put forth in the Kickstarter, but it needs to exist because new players need some where they can play around before facing PvP games. We loose more players to noobs giving up before things get good than Vets giving up when they run out of content.

HamsterIV makes a very solid point but it's also just one more depressing bit of fact in the muse bucket of depressing facts... Alliance probably won't be anything like it's advertised but that said I think if they do manage to get Alliance out at all and it's not absolutely terrible doing another kickstarter later could still be an idea right?

Considering how much time I've put into guns and continue to do I'd probably pay the price of an AAA title game towards getting new content provided I felt confident we'd actually receive it. Hell I even bought the "Soundtrack DLC" even though I don't care and can't tell the difference.

I'd like to see (more or less in order of priority):
-new maps
-new game modes (VIP)
-new ships
-in-game interface for tournaments
-more community/interface content (like the addition of clan levels, that was great but more of that kind of thing. Something to facilitate clan colours, clan decals and individuality etc. Clan trophy displays like player badges? Clans are the lifeblood of guns so you know)
-aesthetic content (Pleease let us dye hair in any colour for instance. make broken guns look broken, and add costumes & ship themes instead of a new pair of goggles each month)

There. I give you my deepest desires and now I'll go back to my corner and cry about how we'll never have any of that.

At the end of the day I don't really care how it's done or what it takes, be it kickstarter or goat sacrifices under the full moon, I want new content.

Hamster has a very valid point, period.

On the other hand, as we see in this thread, at least some members of the community would be very happy to take such offer, and I think this is the ONLY way to provide significant amount of content into Skirmish. As I said, I say kickstarter only because it comes to mind first, but it can be any kind of fund-raise.

The important thing, that some of you underline, is the promise that this money will end up as paying for skirmish content. Becuase many of the vets support Muse through buying things in the shop or whatever, and many times through actually buying extra copies and distributing them amongst their friends, promoting game. The point is - vets are not afraid to give Muse money and they do, but they don't feel output of content is proportional to they input (because Muse spends a lot on Alliance, I will never forget one of devs telling that the income coming from in-game shop is enough to pay for the artists team; but those artists work for Alliance, not for Skirmish). That's why something like kickstarter with steps and goals would make people more... well... more confident in giving Muse money.

Matthew said that they are not going to do kickstarter for Skirmish stuff and that after Alliance is released, it will bring more content to Skirmish.

:(

is there a date for alliance then? even a rough release would be fine if it means more skirmish content....

I heard rumours Howard said 2016 but not very confidently.

To be fair, Matthew said that there are people working on VIP mode and something else. But yeah, no significant additions to the Skirmish will be made for a while (maybe that's why they deal with balance stuff now? it doesn't require much specialised work but it's something I guess?).

This.  +100.  Just a single round of Alliance in Normal mode feels like running a marathon; it's sufficiently un-fun (especially with the constant and somewhat ridicuolous airplane attacks) that I've only completed a handful of matches (and actually won somehow, so it's not so much a question of ability as just it not being an enjoyable experience at all).  When you win a particularly difficult Skirmish 6 - 7 against captains your level, you feel somewhat drained but still energized from actually pulling that off at the last second against real players (or on the other side, for coming so close).  Alliance just leaves you feeling drained.

I don't think Alliance will live up to the grand vision Muse put forth in the Kickstarter, but it needs to exist because new players need some where they can play around before facing PvP games. Heh.  Pushing new players into Alliance would be like airdropping a fresh recruit that hasn't even gone through boot camp behind enemy lines with no weapons.  Not exactly a good idea. ;)
