Match progress indications
« on: February 06, 2016, 06:48:48 am »
It would be nice to have some way to know if there is any point in joining a match in progress before doing so.
Showing the time the match has been running would help, possibly along with the total score ex (the game is 4-3 it shows 7)
Any other ideas without severe negative side-affects?

Well... the idea is good.

There's only one possible problem, that is: the score being 4. There are 5 possible outcomes of such: 4-0, 3-1, 2-2, 1-3 and 4-0, to which I'd say that joining 4-0 match ain't worth it (which makes such indication worthless in 40% of cases). Some may argue about 3-1 and 1-3 matches too. ^^

I see the point of showing total score - to nullify picking winning sides for achieve grinding - but at the same time it partially nullifies the usefullness of such indication.

(Also, I witnessed few matches that lasted shorter than Slayer's Angel Of Death form start to finish, so... yeah)

I kind of see the concern.

I join mid match constantly. I hate being in the dark but i get the purpose.

There is no real way to impliment something that gives enough information but not too much.

Being able to see both loadouts is already a fair amount of info.

This would be nice, especially with a "blind" scoreboard that indicates if the match is beginning or ending based on total kills but unknown as to who the killers/victims are. Yeah, like if it's a 2 on 2, it says the number of kills out of the total amount of possible kills. Something like 0/10, 3/10, etc... even if only 9 kills could ever actually happen. I absolutely loathe joining matches just to have them end in ONE minute because it's 4 to 4... or 4 to 0... instant-losses are especially annoying, but even instant-wins are stupid.

Yep. I agree with the joining only to have it end instantly thing.

Even knowing if it is 4/10 doesnt help much though.

It doesn't tell you much... but it tells you something. Yes, it could be a sweep, 4-0, but I'd avoid those types of matches. I'd only join if it were, say, 1/10 or 2/10 :)

The problem is having ANY idea of who is winning or losing because:

1. People would avoid joining the losing team to avoid losing themselves
2. People would farm victories by joining the winning team

would it be unreasonable to just have the scores depicted as say 3-2, but not show which team is leading.
One could always have the higher score on the right side, no matter whether red or blue are leading

That might be true, but it is imo more useful than the number of kills in the complete match. And after 3 or 4 matches people should have grasped the system.

I see 20+ lvl engineers who have no clue that you can hit engines from below - on pyra for example - and you are telling me it will take only 3-4 matches? I'm sorry, that this game made me doubt, to say the least, such statements.

I for example had no fucking clue about compass until I played 700-something matches. Fuck me, right? I'm not implyiing that my stupidity means that everyone else is dumb, I'm just saying that some just don't notice things.

You're probably right Schwalbe. I tend to expect to much from people (this sounds way to arrogant).

Good idea Daft Loon.

You could just make those achievements connected with winning matches and similar only work when you are in the match from the beginning (you don't mid-join). Then you could show the actual score without achievement grinding.

On the other hand though.... come on, there are so many easier ways to grind achievements. I mean, you get 4 people as pilots, start match and shazam - you can do whatever you want.
