Dark maps, lights and deception
« on: July 05, 2015, 01:53:53 pm »
Hey!

So, I was thinking about a few things that could give a fun twist to the game.

It could be fun to have a very dark map at night, and have a spot lights that could be on a gun mount that would allow to look out for enemy ships. I think it'd be super fun for a squid to try to sneak up in the dark on a galleon that is exploring the dark with a spot.

Another idea that is a bit more out there would be to have another pilot tool which would be "spy paint" and would paint your ship in the color of the opposite team. Maybe in this mode, you wouldn't be able to be spotted by the enemy team, but it would enable friendly fire? That could be fun too!

Some person, I cannot remember their name; made a similar post suggesting a very dark map with little visibility.

I think it would be a very interesting idea.  :D

On the other hand, There will be few developments in terms of Maps, Ships and Possible weapons until the Adventure Mode and Co-op Mode are fully developed and hopefully published by the end of Summer

Woah woah woah woah....woah!

You say dark map with some light mechanics?

I say give us ANY new map. And make it 3v3 or 4v4 map, not made out of other maps.

I mean, I don't mean to be mean or anything, but Devs aren't really fond of making maps at all, so this kind of suggestion seems a bit unrealistic. I'm a simple man with simple needs. Give me maps.

Also, some maps have so many clouds that you can't see anyhing most of the time. You should try the new 2v2 map perhaps.

I, too, would be ok with literally any new map.

I really like the new map, and I can see that the quantity of maps is fairly low.

Would it be too hard to open map making to community workshops?

Yes, sadly it would be really difficult. Currently map making is a pretty long and technical process that we are working on improving internally. Even with the improvements however, the map tools are so tied into our internal systems it would be essentially impossible to separate it out and give to players.

Give it to me. I would love a walkthrough of how a map is made.

Conversely, let players make set pieces (anything not 'ground' geometry) and heightmaps and prebuild demo maps... though you can already do that in many other programs, including Unity.

I second the point of giving it to Rich.

Yes, but in splatoon you get to be a kid now AND a squid now. I feel that's worth any price
