Is/was needling a thing?
« on: May 15, 2015, 06:12:37 pm »
So many ships have little horns and pointing bits clearly meant to do piercing dmg.
But does it actually exist or did it ever exist?

Awhile ago I heard a thing called needling where chute vent stomping with a spire caused instant death. The balloon would pop (like full health to popped) and the hull would follow.

And then ground and ram dmg would kill.

But on the contrary, goldfish has a horn but I've never popped a balloon with a balloon ram besides my own (hence I always ram with hull and with those I do pop if I ram direct to balloon with expected dmg to me regardless of whether i ram the needle or the side of balloon of a goldfish)

Impact damage is dealt by the ship not the contact component. So ramming with balloon deals the same impact damage  to the target as ramming with hull. Impact has different damage modifiers so ramming with balloon causes much more damage to your balloon relative to ramming with hull.

It also doesn't deal extra damage with specific parts of the ship ramming like the nose of the pyra or the tip of a spire.

why even have those pointy bits then?

the spire would be much more improved if it didnt have that spike that apparently does nothing.

Not everything has to have a use, its just a ship model.

Having a pointy point is advantageous for the ramming ship because there's only one point of contact so it's easy control rams. And probably other reasons but the point is the point is good.

The Spire's spike is there out of spite.

Really, it makes the ship more tower-like. Which is sexy. Like a Munker.

Don't get me wrong I love me some mine spam but it has to be in a ship that can move forwards and backwards to control arming time. Munkers are easy prey for mine squids :P

New ship, the sword fish, a cross breed of a goldfish and squid in looks, but with a giant sword at the front dealing pierce damage. No guns.
