What makes you like Guns of Icarus?
« on: January 10, 2015, 11:49:38 pm »
I love worlds that Hiyao animates, like Porco Rosso, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, and Howl's Moving Castle. Guns of Icarus is pretty much the only game that puts me in that romantic world. That's my main reason for playing Guns of Icarus.

I've named two of my ships in reference to Hiyao's works. It might soon become three.

When despite overbearing odds you come out on top.

Allies don't know where the point is in desert scrap?

3v1 the whole game?

No problem.

Also landing a while clip of hades at ~2000m
 (Doesn't happen to me often.)

Having every shot of an Artemis destroy a component.

The red cross of death you get from heavy flak.

Heavy clip carronade disables.

When I or the enemy charge a minefield.

When the lobby is more fun the match you play.

I like Guns of Icarus, because I don't die so quickly or don't have to get exp to level up die less quick.

Geo is best at advertising, apparantly.

alright I gotta give a legit answer.

the community.
without good players and friends, good people to spend my time with in the lobbies or on the ship, this game would be nothing.  you guys are what make it fun.

unloading a greased clip of Hades fire into an enemy at perfect range is fun too, as is the well-placed lochnagar mine, but the people here are what really make it worthwhile.

I was won over by the intense... Um... "Dogfights"? If that's the right word? Most of it was probably owed to novice public matches when everybody charges headlong into the 3v3 deathmatch, but that still kind of rocked. Peeling away at the last moment because I didn't know collisions were an effective means of dealing damage. Gunners spraying weapons like madmen.

It was all very dramatic.

And I love steampunk and post-apocalyptia, so it's kind of perfect. It also reminds me of the Mortal Engines quartet, which I really like (even though I've only read three of four so far).

In Guns of Icarus, we have duck fights and cake fights.

...

I really should join a clan.

Does being a level 34 gunner in Guns of Icarus count for experience?

If it doesn't.. It should.

I agree wholeheartedly. The people that I met while playing this game have been a driving force in the way that I've spent my time online ever since. I have made friends that I would like to keep for the rest of my life and I hope that they will too. Another thing that really pulled me in was the engagement between the developers and the players. They weren't just on the other end of a Steam announcements page but were playing games with us and chatting with us on a weekly basis if not more often. These reasons made me want to step up and help more and that led to my becoming a CA and all the rest.

Also, I do quite enjoy trying to win against the odds. I like putting myself in difficult situations as a pilot and trying to escape. It lets me learn and gives me some real excitement. As an engineer I mostly zone out and take the time to chat and make jokes with my shipmates. If they're struggling then I can give them advice which leads back up to the first points. As a gunner it's all about landing superb shots - constantly trying to outdo myself: better gun disables, longer range Lumberjack hits, the works.
