Mini-Game Madness
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:20:41 pm »

Greetings fellow aviators, engineers, and powder monkeys near and far.

After discussing various incarnations of this idea with a few people I've decided to put this draft concept forward to the community. If I get a good reception I'll consider setting up a loosely-organized event for this.

Since participating in the TimmyB Tournament, I've felt inspired by the manner of sillyness and its challenges of overcoming them quite irresistible; Its quite fun to be frank and I felt I wanted to expand on that a bit more. Basically a private lobby with trusted players who will participate will form their crews and a referee will preside over the match (based on the level of participation the lobby can be adjusted for size).

The ref will offer each captain the choice of selecting their ship at the expense of all their gun slots being randomly selected or they may choose to have the ship randomly selected by the roll of dice by the ref.

Should the captain choose to randomize the choice of the ship from the dice roll they will be offered one gun placement and gun for that placement of their choosing before the dice will be rolled again for the selection of the remaining gun slots.

Crew and captain loadouts are unaffected by this and can be setup at the crews leisure.

The idea is to have fun with unusual and challenging builds, I love creative efforts by crews to over come them and I'm not looking for a very complex capacity gameplay beyond that. This setup can be used for King of the Hill, Crazy King, and Death matches.

If this is something that would intrigue you and your crew, simply post your interest below and share with your fellow aerial comrades.

Clear skies to you all!  :D

Additionally I would consider doing something like this on a Friday or Saturday in a time frame that would suit the schedule of most timezones players might find themselves in :)

A dice is inefficient. Its much better to actually google a proper number randomiser.

That way you can roll based on exactly how many weapons there are and it rolls based on 1-x where x is the number of guns for the gun size.

I love this idea.  I'd say have it on Saturday, because Friday is Iron Fork, and Sunday is SCS.

Ofcourse, there's multi sided dice as well but that is indeed another reasonable method.

If I recall correctly only fair dice that exists are ones that are even numbers. If its not symmetrical it can't be fair. Plus as an old table top player.

And ask any vets of these types of games, there was a technique to rolling.

I think the KRAG clan may be interested (we are only one ship).

I'd certainly be interested in joining this, although I'm a little concerned about how long Crazy King matches in particular could take if there aren't a fair number of 'proven' gun combinations.

I like the idea of crews being randomised too, that adds another interesting aspect. Individual crew members could perhaps sign up with preferred classes or something if need be, or just go with whatever is needed if that idea gets too complicated.

TEACH ME SENSEI

Just roll dice alot. Just keep in mind the number you want to roll and just roll. If you play table tops long enough like me, you'll get the feel of the dice and unconciously control exactly how you roll. If you do it conciously, its obvious you're cheating. You only have an instant to feel out how the dice is positioned and you control the strength and direction of the roll intuitively to increase the chances of rolling the specific number.

Hence why vets of tabletop games roll much higher on average than some random dude, because they technically cheat.

That being said the less revolutions the dice does on the turn the more accurate the throw is. Hence why in casinos you can't throw dice meekly. It has to really spin.

Arigato, sensei.  I will keep that in mind.

OK, enough using what paltry Japanese I know.  I guess I kinda showed my support for this idea, but let me say it clearly;

HELL YES.
